Frequently asked questions

MILFLOX DROPS by SUN PHARMA-MILMET DIV: Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are Milflox Eye Drops used for?

Milflox Eye Drops are primarily used to treat bacterial eye infections such as bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye) and corneal ulcers. They may also be prescribed to prevent infections following eye surgeries or injuries.

2. How do Milflox Eye Drops work?

Milflox Eye Drops contain moxifloxacin, an antibiotic. Moxifloxacin works by inhibiting essential bacterial enzymes called DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV. By blocking these enzymes, it obstructs the replication and growth of bacteria, thereby clearing the infection.

3. What is the usual dosage for Milflox Eye Drops?

The usual dosage involves instilling one drop into the affected eye(s) 2 to 3 times a day for seven days, or as directed by your doctor. It is crucial to follow your doctor's instructions regarding the dose and duration of treatment.

4. What are the possible side effects of Milflox Eye Drops?

Common side effects include eye irritation, redness, pain or discomfort, dry eyes, a burning or stinging sensation, and temporary blurred vision. If any side effects are severe or persistent, consult your doctor. Serious allergic reactions are rare but require immediate medical attention.

5. Is it safe to use Milflox Eye Drops during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Caution is advised when using Milflox Eye Drops during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. It is recommended to consult your doctor before using this medication, as there is limited information on its safety during pregnancy, and it is generally not recommended during breastfeeding due to potential adverse effects on an infant's joints.

6. Can Milflox Eye Drops be taken with other medications?

Milflox Eye Drops are not known to interact with most systemic medications or food items. However, if you are using other eye drops, maintain a minimum gap of 15 minutes between applications. Concomitant use with topical NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) or steroids should be approached with caution as it may delay healing.

7. What precautions should be taken while using Milflox Eye Drops?

Avoid using Milflox Eye Drops if you have a known allergy to moxifloxacin or other quinolone antibiotics. Do not touch the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface to prevent contamination. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. Complete the entire prescribed course of treatment even if symptoms improve to prevent reinfection and antibiotic resistance. Since it can cause temporary blurred vision, avoid driving or operating machinery immediately after use.

8. What happens if a dose of Milflox Eye Drops is missed?

If you miss a dose, instill it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

9. How should Milflox Eye Drops be stored?

Store Milflox Eye Drops at room temperature, away from direct light and moisture. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use and out of reach of children and pets. Discard the eye drops 4 weeks after first opening the bottle.
