Rabonik 40 Plus Capsule

Name: Rabonik 40 Plus Capsule (Brand name). Also referred to as Rabonik Plus Capsule SR.

Composition: Each capsule contains Rabeprazole (40 mg) and Levosulpiride (75 mg). Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor, while Levosulpiride is a prokinetic agent.

Uses: This medicine is prescribed for the treatment of various acid-related conditions, including gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), acidity, heartburn, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), indigestion, and duodenal and gastric ulcers. It works by reducing stomach acid production and preventing the backflow of food and acid.

Dosage and Administration: Rabonik 40 Plus Capsule should be taken as directed by a doctor, typically one hour before food, preferably in the morning. The capsule should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and not chewed, crushed, or broken. The dosage may vary based on the patient's condition and medical history.

Side Effects: Common side effects include headache, nausea, vomiting, gas, abdominal pain, dizziness, and diarrhoea. Other reported side effects include flatulence, constipation, weakness, drowsiness, and flu-like symptoms. Prolonged use may lead to more serious effects such as osteoporosis and hypomagnesemia. Consult a doctor if any side effects persist or worsen.

Precautions:

  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have pre-existing conditions like liver or kidney disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, intestinal obstruction, pheochromocytoma, epilepsy, or mania.
  • Avoid alcohol consumption as it can increase stomach acid production and risk of stomach damage.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness and drowsiness; therefore, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if affected.
  • Long-term use may necessitate calcium and Vitamin D supplementation to prevent bone weakness.
  • Rabonik 40 Plus Capsule is generally not recommended for children as its safety and effectiveness have not been established.
  • Drug interactions can occur with medications such as blood thinners, antifungals, antacids, iron supplements, antibiotics, certain cardiac drugs, antihypertensives, and anti-cancer agents.

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep the medicine out of reach and sight of children.

Frequently asked questions

RABONIK 40 PLUS 40MG CAPSULE (10 CAP) by ERIS LIFESCIENCES LIMITED: FAQs

RABONIK 40 PLUS 40MG CAPSULE is a combination medication containing Rabeprazole and Levosulpiride. It is primarily used to treat various gastrointestinal conditions by reducing stomach acid and improving digestive tract movement.

What is Rabonik 40 Plus Capsule used for?

Rabonik 40 Plus Capsule is used to treat a range of gastrointestinal conditions, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), acidity, heartburn, indigestion, peptic ulcers (stomach and duodenal ulcers), Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It helps alleviate symptoms such as acid reflux, stomach pain, bloating, and discomfort.

How does Rabonik 40 Plus Capsule work?

This medication combines two active ingredients: Rabeprazole and Levosulpiride.

  • Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by blocking the action of an enzyme in the stomach called the gastric proton pump. This enzyme is responsible for producing stomach acid, so Rabeprazole effectively reduces the amount of acid the stomach generates, providing relief from acid-related symptoms.
  • Levosulpiride is a prokinetic agent. It increases the release of a chemical messenger called acetylcholine, which enhances the movement and contractions of the stomach and intestines. This action helps to quicken stomach emptying, improve digestion, and prevent the backflow of food and acid into the food pipe, thereby reducing symptoms like bloating and nausea.

What is the usual dosage for Rabonik 40 Plus Capsule?

The dosage of Rabonik 40 Plus Capsule should be taken as advised by your doctor. It is typically taken orally, usually once a day, preferably before meals (about 40 minutes to an hour prior). The capsule should be swallowed whole with water and should not be crushed, broken, or chewed. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose and duration of treatment based on your specific condition and response to the medication.

What are the possible side effects of Rabonik 40 Plus Capsule?

Common side effects may include headache, nausea, vomiting, gas, abdominal pain, dizziness, weakness, sleepiness, and diarrhea. If these side effects persist or worsen, it is advisable to consult your doctor. Long-term use of Rabeprazole, one of the active ingredients, may increase the risk of osteoporosis (weak and brittle bones) and low magnesium levels (hypomagnesemia).

Is Rabonik 40 Plus Capsule safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

The safety of Rabonik 40 Plus Capsule during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established.

  • Pregnancy: It may be unsafe to use during pregnancy, and limited studies in humans exist. Animal studies have shown potential harmful effects on the developing baby. Therefore, it should be used only if the potential benefits outweigh the risks, and always under the guidance of a doctor.
  • Breastfeeding: Levosulpiride+rabeprazole may pass into breast milk, and information regarding its use during breastfeeding is limited. It is recommended to consult your doctor to determine if the benefits justify the potential risks to the infant.

Can Rabonik 40 Plus Capsule be taken with other medications?

Rabonik 40 Plus Capsule can interact with various medications. It's crucial to inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are currently taking to avoid potential interactions. Some medications that may interact include:

  • Blood thinners (e.g., warfarin)
  • Anti-cancer medications (e.g., methotrexate)
  • Cardiac glycosides (e.g., digoxin)
  • Immunosuppressants (e.g., tacrolimus, mycophenolate mofetil)
  • Antifungal agents (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole)
  • Antacids containing aluminum and magnesium hydroxide should be taken with at least a 2-hour gap.
  • Antiretroviral medicines (e.g., atazanavir, nelfinavir)

What precautions should be taken?

  • Allergies: Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to rabeprazole, levosulpiride, or similar proton pump inhibitors.
  • Underlying Conditions: Inform your doctor if you have a history of gastrointestinal bleeding, intestinal obstruction, severe kidney or liver impairment, pheochromocytoma, epilepsy, mania, or movement disorders (e.g., Parkinson's disease), as Levosulpiride can exacerbate such conditions.
  • Dizziness/Drowsiness: This medication may cause dizziness and drowsiness, so avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you and feel alert.
  • Alcohol: Avoid or limit alcohol consumption as it may worsen acidity symptoms and increase drowsiness.
  • Long-term Use: Prolonged use may lead to osteoporosis and hypomagnesemia. Your doctor may monitor these levels and recommend calcium and vitamin D supplements if needed.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should Rabonik 40 Plus Capsule be stored?

Store Rabonik 40 Plus Capsule in a cool, dry, and dark place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. The temperature should not exceed 30°C (86°F). Keep the medicine in its original packet or container, tightly closed, and out of reach of children.
