Description
CENSIA Nasal Spray by XCEL LABS PVT LTD
Name
- Common Name: Censia Nasal Spray
- Brand Name: Censia 27.5mcg Nasal Spray
Composition
- Active Ingredients: Fluticasone Furoate (27.5mcg) or Fluticasone (0.0275%w/w). This is a corticosteroid, specifically a glucocorticoid.
Uses
CENSIA Nasal Spray is a steroid medication primarily used to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis in adults and children above 6 years of age. It helps manage symptoms such as:
- Runny, stuffy, or itchy nose
- Sneezing
- Sinus discomfort
- Itchy, red, or watery eyes
It functions by blocking certain chemical messengers in the body that cause inflammation (redness and swelling) and allergic reactions. It may also be used for post-surgical removal of nasal polyps. It is not intended for the common cold.
Dosage and Administration
CENSIA Nasal Spray should be used as advised by your doctor, and regular use is recommended to achieve full benefits. It may take a few days for the spray to take full effect.
- Application: Shake the bottle before use. Clean your nose thoroughly. Insert the bottle tip into one nostril, closing the other. Direct the spray towards the sides of your nostril, away from the cartilage. Breathe gently as you spray and keep your head upright. Repeat for the other nostril. Avoid deep breathing, as this can make the medication less effective. Do not share the bottle to prevent germ spread.
Side Effects
Common Side Effects:
- Nasal discomforts (burning or itching)
- Nosebleeds (generally minor, more common with continuous use over 6 weeks)
- Nasal inflammation
- Headaches

- Breathlessness
Serious Side Effects (Rare):
- Allergic reactions (wheezing, coughing, difficulty breathing, swelling around the face, skin rashes, blurred vision, or other visual disturbances)
- Long-term use may lead to cataracts, glaucoma, skin thinning, changes in body fat, easy bruising, increased acne or facial hair, impotence or loss of interest in sex, and menstrual problems.
- Thrush (fungal infection)
Precautions
- Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor. While limited human data suggests it's probably safe during breastfeeding, animal studies have shown harmful effects during pregnancy.
- Children: Not recommended for children below 6 years of age. Prolonged use in children may cause growth retardation, requiring height monitoring.
- Contraindications: Do not use if allergic to Fluticasone or other ingredients.
- Medical Conditions: Inform your doctor if you have severe liver disease, eye conditions (glaucoma, cataracts, herpes infection), recent nasal ulcers, nasal surgery, or nasal trauma.
- Infection Risk: This medicine may lower the body's ability to fight infections. Avoid contact with individuals having chickenpox, measles, or tuberculosis.
- Interactions: Inform your doctor about all medicines, especially those for HIV (ritonavir, cobicistat), fungal infections (ketoconazole, itraconazole), asthma (theophylline), and other steroids. Do not use with other steroid nasal sprays simultaneously.

Frequently asked questions
Censia Nasal Spray, manufactured by XCEL LABS PVT LTD, contains Fluticasone furoate, a corticosteroid used to manage allergic rhinitis symptoms.
What is Censia Nasal Spray used for?
Censia Nasal Spray is primarily used to treat symptoms of allergic rhinitis in adults and children over six years old. This includes symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, stuffy or itchy nose, sinus discomfort, and itchy, red, or watery eyes caused by allergies. It is not intended for use with the common cold.
How does Censia Nasal Spray work?
Censia Nasal Spray contains Fluticasone furoate, which is a glucocorticoid (a type of corticosteroid). It works by blocking certain chemical messengers in the body that cause inflammation (swelling) and allergic reactions. This action reduces inflammation and provides relief from the discomfort and irritation in the nose due to allergies.
What is the usual dosage?
The dosage of Censia Nasal Spray should be used as prescribed by your doctor. For adults, a typical starting dose of fluticasone furoate is two sprays in each nostril once daily, though some may require one spray in each nostril twice daily. For children aged 4 years and older, a common starting dose is one spray in each nostril once daily. It is important to follow the directions on the label and your doctor's advice for proper use, and it may take a few days to notice the full effect.
What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects of Censia Nasal Spray include nasal discomforts such as burning or itching, headache, nosebleeds (generally minor), nasal inflammation, nasal ulceration, and shortness of breath. If these effects are bothersome or persist, you should contact your doctor. In rare cases, serious allergic reactions like rash, hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, throat, and tongue can occur; seek immediate medical attention if you experience these. Long-term use may also lead to cataracts, glaucoma, or fungal infections in the nose and throat (thrush).
Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Censia Nasal Spray should be used with caution during pregnancy. While some studies on fluticasone furoate indicate it can be used during pregnancy as very little medicine gets into the bloodstream and to the baby, other sources suggest it may be unsafe with limited human data and potential harmful effects observed in animal studies. Therefore, it should only be used if clearly advised by your doctor after assessing the benefits and potential risks. During breastfeeding, Censia Nasal Spray is considered probably safe, as limited human data suggests it does not pose a significant risk to the baby, with only tiny amounts likely to pass into breast milk. However, consult your doctor before use to ensure the benefit to the mother outweighs any possible risk to the baby.
Can it be taken with other medications?
You should inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal preparations you are taking. Censia Nasal Spray may interact with certain medications, including those used to treat HIV (e.g., ritonavir, cobicistat) and fungal infections (e.g., ketoconazole). Concomitant use with other steroid-containing nasal sprays should also be avoided.
What precautions should be taken?
Censia Nasal Spray may lower your ability to fight infections, so it's advisable to stay away from people with contagious diseases like measles, tuberculosis, or chickenpox. Inform your doctor if you have a history of nose surgery, injury, nose sores, glaucoma, cataracts, or herpes infection of the eye. Avoid situations that worsen your symptoms, such as dust and pollen, and avoid smoking. Do not use Censia Nasal Spray in children under six years of age. For proper use, shake the bottle, clean your nose, insert the tip into one nostril while closing the other, and spray towards the sides of your nostril, away from the dividing cartilage. Avoid deep breathing during spraying to prevent the medication from going back to the throat.
What happens if a dose is missed?
If you miss a dose of Censia Nasal Spray, use it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.
How should it be stored?
Censia Nasal Spray should be stored below 30°C. Keep the bottle closed tightly and upright when not in use. It should be kept out of the sight and reach of children. Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed.
