BRINZOX T EYE DROP 5 ML

BRINZOX T EYE DROP is a prescription medicine manufactured by AJANTA PHARMA LIMITED, designed to manage elevated intraocular pressure.

Composition BRINZOX T EYE DROP contains two active ingredients:

  • Brinzolamide (1% w/v): A carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that works by blocking an enzyme in the eyes, thereby reducing the production of aqueous humor (fluid inside the eyes).
  • Timolol (0.5% w/v): A non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agent (beta-blocker) that decreases aqueous humor production.

Together, these ingredients reduce the pressure by decreasing fluid production and increasing its outflow from the eye.

Uses This medication is primarily used to manage:

  • Elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in adults.
  • Open-angle glaucoma.
  • Ocular hypertension (high fluid pressure in the eye). It can be used as a first-line option, or as adjunctive or replacement therapy when other IOP-lowering medications are not providing adequate results.

Dosage and Administration

  • Shake the bottle well before each use.
  • Instill one drop in the affected eye(s) twice a day, or as advised by your doctor.
  • Wash hands before use.
  • Tilt your head back, gently pull the lower eyelid downwards to form a pocket, and squeeze the prescribed number of drops into it.
  • Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface, including the eye, to prevent contamination.
  • Close your eyes gently for 1-2 minutes and apply gentle pressure to the corner of the eye near the nose for at least 2 minutes after instilling the drop.
  • If using other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes before applying the next medication.
  • If wearing soft contact lenses, remove them before application and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.

Side Effects Common side effects include:

  • Blurred vision.
  • Eye irritation, burning, stinging, itching, or redness.
  • Altered sense of taste (dysgeusia), often described as bitter or unusual.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Headache.

Serious side effects are rare but may include very slow heartbeat, chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden vision changes, fainting, severe skin reactions, or allergic shock. Seek immediate medical attention if these occur.

Precautions

  • Inform your doctor about any history of respiratory problems (such as asthma, severe COPD), severe hay fever, slow heartbeat, heart failure, disorders of heart rhythm, severe kidney problems, or metabolic acidosis.
  • Use with caution if pregnant or breastfeeding; consult a doctor.
  • May cause temporary blurred vision; exercise caution when driving or operating machinery until vision is clear.
  • Inform your doctor before surgery, as Timolol may affect medicines used during anesthesia.
  • Avoid if allergic to brinzolamide, timolol, sulphonamides, or any other ingredients.
  • Not recommended for children below 18 years of age.

Storage

  • Store upright at a cool temperature, ideally below 25°C.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Discard the suspension one month after opening the vial.
Frequently asked questions

BRINZOX T EYE DROP 5 ML is a prescription medication commonly used to manage increased pressure within the eyes in adults. It is a combination of Brinzolamide and Timolol.

Here are some frequently asked questions about BRINZOX T EYE DROP 5 ML:

What is BRINZOX T EYE DROP used for?

BRINZOX T EYE DROP is primarily used to treat eye conditions such as glaucoma and ocular hypertension in adults. These conditions are characterized by high fluid pressure inside the eye, which, if not managed, can lead to vision problems and damage to the optic nerve.

How does BRINZOX T EYE DROP work?

This medicine contains two active ingredients: Brinzolamide (a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor) and Timolol (a beta-blocker). This combination works by reducing the production of aqueous humor (the fluid inside the eye) by the ciliary body and increasing its outflow, thereby effectively lowering the pressure within the eye.

What is the usual dosage for BRINZOX T EYE DROP?

The typical recommended dosage is one drop in the affected eye(s) twice a day, or as directed by your doctor. It is important to follow your doctor's instructions regarding the dose and duration of treatment. Shake the bottle well before each use.

What are the possible side effects of BRINZOX T EYE DROP?

Common side effects can include a burning or stinging sensation in the eyes, eye redness, itching, blurred vision, eye irritation, and a bitter or altered taste. These side effects are usually temporary and tend to fade as your body adjusts to the medication. If they persist or worsen, you should consult your doctor.

Is BRINZOX T EYE DROP safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

BRINZOX T EYE DROP is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Animal studies have shown potential harmful effects on the developing baby, and Timolol may pass into breast milk. Always consult your doctor before using this medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Can BRINZOX T EYE DROP be taken with other medications?

Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including other eye drops. Concomitant use with other beta-blockers, certain heart medications (e.g., clonidine, verapamil, digoxin), other carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, and certain antidepressants may lead to interactions. If using other eye medications, wait at least 5 minutes between applications.

What precautions should be taken while using BRINZOX T EYE DROP?

Before using BRINZOX T EYE DROP, inform your doctor if you have any existing liver, kidney, or heart conditions, breathing problems (like asthma or severe COPD), diabetes, thyroid disorders, low blood pressure, or circulation problems. If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before applying the eye drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them, as the preservative in the drops can cause discoloration. Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface to prevent contamination. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery if you experience blurred vision after using the drops.

What happens if a dose of BRINZOX T EYE DROP is missed?

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should BRINZOX T EYE DROP be stored?

Store the eye drops upright at a cool temperature, ideally below 25°C. Keep it away from direct sunlight and moisture, and out of the reach of children. Discard the bottle one month after opening to prevent contamination.
