Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some frequently asked questions about Fybogel Orange Sugar Free Isabgol Husk:
What is Fybogel Orange Sugar Free Isabgol Husk used for?
Fybogel Orange Sugar Free Isabgol Husk is primarily used as a natural and effective way to increase dietary fibre intake. It helps relieve constipation by promoting regular bowel movements and can also aid in managing mild to moderately raised blood cholesterol levels. It's also used to maintain normal bowel function for those suffering from haemorrhoids.
How does Fybogel Orange Sugar Free Isabgol Husk work?
This product contains Isabgol Husk, also known as Psyllium Husk, which is a natural source of soluble fibre. When consumed, it absorbs water in the digestive system and forms a gel-like substance. This substance adds bulk to the stool, making it softer and easier to pass, thereby relieving constipation. It may also help manage cholesterol levels by binding to bile acids, aiding in their excretion and managing cholesterol absorption.
What is the usual dosage for Fybogel Orange Sugar Free Isabgol Husk?
For bowel regulation, adults and children over 12 years should generally take one spoonful (5.4 gm) in the morning and one at bedtime. Children aged 6 to 12 years may take half to one spoonful, depending on their age and size, in the morning and at bedtime. For cholesterol management in adults, the recommended dosage is one spoonful (5.4 gm) twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. It should be stirred well in approximately 150-240ml of cold water and drunk immediately, preferably after meals. Children under 6 years are not recommended to use this product except under medical advice.
What are the possible side effects of Fybogel Orange Sugar Free Isabgol Husk?
Common side effects can include wind (flatulence) and bloating, especially during the first few days of treatment, which usually lessens with continued use. Allergic reactions are possible, with symptoms such as difficulty breathing, wheezing, coughing, skin rash, itching, and in rare cases, a sudden life-threatening allergic reaction (anaphylaxis). Abdominal discomfort, distension, and a risk of intestinal or oesophageal obstruction or faecal impaction can occur if swallowed with insufficient fluid.
Is Fybogel Orange Sugar Free Isabgol Husk safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Fybogel Orange Sugar Free Isabgol Husk is commonly taken during pregnancy and is generally considered not harmful to the baby. It can also be used while breastfeeding as it does not pass into breast milk. However, it is always advisable to consult a healthcare provider before use during pregnancy or lactation.
Can Fybogel Orange Sugar Free Isabgol Husk be taken with other medications?
Fybogel Orange Sugar Free Isabgol Husk can affect the absorption of certain medications. It should not be taken within half an hour to one hour before or after other medicines, including minerals, vitamins (like B12), cardiac glycosides, coumarin derivatives, carbamazepine, and lithium, as its soluble fibre can delay or reduce their absorption. Diabetic patients using insulin or individuals taking thyroid hormones should use Fybogel under medical supervision, as dosage adjustments for these medications may be necessary. It should also not be taken with medicines that cause constipation, such as opioids.
What precautions should be taken when using Fybogel Orange Sugar Free Isabgol Husk?
Always mix the powder with the recommended amount of cold water (approximately 150-240ml) and drink it immediately to prevent it from thickening and potentially causing obstruction. Maintain adequate fluid intake throughout the day. Do not take it dry. Avoid taking it immediately before going to sleep. Consult a doctor if you have difficulty swallowing or throat problems, or if you experience a sudden change in bowel habits lasting more than two weeks, undiagnosed rectal bleeding, or abdominal pain with nausea and vomiting, as these could indicate a serious condition. Individuals with phenylketonuria should note that this product contains aspartame, a source of phenylalanine. Healthcare workers or caregivers should also be aware of the potential for allergic sensitisation due to inhalation of the powder.
What happens if a dose of Fybogel Orange Sugar Free Isabgol Husk is missed?
If you miss a dose, do not take a double dose. Simply continue with your next scheduled recommended dose.
How should Fybogel Orange Sugar Free Isabgol Husk be stored?
