Frequently asked questions
What is Atarax Syrup used for?
Atarax Syrup contains hydroxyzine, an antihistamine. It is commonly used to relieve symptoms of allergy such as itching, rashes, and hives. It is also used to manage anxiety, help with sleep, and sometimes to control nausea or vomiting.
How does Atarax Syrup work?
Atarax Syrup works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms. It also has a calming effect on the brain, which helps reduce anxiety and induces sleep.
What is the usual dosage of Atarax Syrup?
The dosage depends on the patient’s age, weight, and the condition being treated. For children, the doctor will determine the exact dose. For adults, the typical dose ranges from 25 to 100 mg per day, divided into smaller doses. Always follow your doctor's instructions.
What are the possible side effects of Atarax Syrup?
Common side effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, dizziness, and blurred vision. Less commonly, it may cause confusion, constipation, or urinary retention. Contact your doctor if you experience any severe or unusual symptoms.
Is Atarax Syrup safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Atarax Syrup is generally not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, unless clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor. It passes into breast milk, so breastfeeding mothers should consult a healthcare provider before using it.
Can Atarax Syrup be taken with other medications?
Atarax Syrup can interact with other medicines, especially those that cause drowsiness (like sleeping pills, antidepressants, or alcohol). Inform your doctor about all medicines and supplements you are taking.
What precautions should be taken while using Atarax Syrup?
Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how the medicine affects you, as it can cause drowsiness. Inform your doctor if you have heart problems, liver or kidney disease, glaucoma, or a history of seizures.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not double up to make up for a missed dose.
How should Atarax Syrup be stored?
Store Atarax Syrup at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children and do not use it after the expiration date.
