Frequently asked questions
OMNIGEL 75 G by CIPLA HEALTH LTD. - Frequently Asked Questions
What is OMNIGEL 75 G used for?
OMNIGEL 75 G is primarily used for the quick and effective relief of mild to moderate pain, inflammation, and swelling associated with musculoskeletal and joint conditions. This includes acute musculoskeletal pain, osteoarthritis, muscle soreness, joint pain, backaches, neck pain, sprains, strains, and minor sports injuries.
How does OMNIGEL 75 G work?
OMNIGEL 75 G contains a combination of active ingredients: Diclofenac diethylamine (equivalent to Diclofenac sodium), Linseed oil, Methyl salicylate, and Menthol. Diclofenac and Methyl salicylate are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that work by blocking the release of chemical messengers (prostaglandins) in the body that cause pain and inflammation. Linseed oil has anti-inflammatory properties, inhibiting inflammatory mediators like leukotrienes. Menthol provides a soothing and cooling sensation by dilating blood vessels, followed by an analgesic effect, and also enhances the penetration of the other drugs into the skin.
How should I use OMNIGEL 75 G?
Clean and dry the affected area before application. Apply a small amount of OMNIGEL 75 G as a thin layer to the affected area and gently massage it into the skin until fully absorbed. It is typically used 3-4 times a day or as directed by a healthcare professional. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after application, unless your hands are the treated area.
What are the possible side effects of OMNIGEL 75 G?
Common side effects may include itching, irritation, redness, and a burning sensation at the application site. These side effects are usually mild and often subside gradually. If these symptoms persist, worsen, or occur regularly, consult your doctor. Serious side effects like severe skin reactions (rash, hives) or cardiovascular thrombotic events are rare but possible with NSAIDs, even topical ones.
Is OMNIGEL 75 G safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
OMNIGEL 75 G should only be used under medical advice during the first six months of pregnancy. It must not be used during the last three months of pregnancy as it could harm the unborn child or cause problems during delivery. For breastfeeding mothers, it is advisable to consult a doctor before using OMNIGEL 75 G; your doctor will determine if it can be safely used.
Can OMNIGEL 75 G be taken with other medications?
Avoid using OMNIGEL 75 G with other topical products, including medications, sunscreens, lotions, moisturizers, or cosmetics, on the same skin site, as this has not been tested and may affect local tolerability and absorption. Concomitant use with oral NSAIDs or aspirin is generally not recommended due to the potential for increased adverse effects. If you are taking anticoagulants like warfarin, excessive topical application of methyl salicylate in OMNIGEL could increase the risk of bleeding. Always inform your doctor about all medications you are using.
What precautions should be taken when using OMNIGEL 75 G?
OMNIGEL 75 G is for external use only. Do not apply it to open wounds, broken, infected, or irritated skin, or on mucous membranes (eyes, nose, mouth). If accidental contact occurs, rinse immediately with water. Avoid applying external heat or occlusive (airtight) dressings to the treated joints. Do not shower or bathe for at least one hour after application. Avoid excessive sunlight exposure to the treated area. It is not recommended for children below 14 years of age. Do not use if you have experienced asthma, urticaria, or other allergic reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs.
What happens if a dose is missed?
Since OMNIGEL 75 G is applied as needed for pain, the chances of missing a dose are rare. If you forget to apply a dose, do so as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled application, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not apply a double amount to compensate for a missed dose.
How should OMNIGEL 75 G be stored?
Store OMNIGEL 75 G in a cool and dry place, protected from moisture and direct sunlight, at a temperature not exceeding 25°C or below 30°C. Do not freeze the product. Keep the cap tightly closed after use and keep it out of the sight and reach of children.
