Description
NEBZMART L 0.63MG RESPULS
- Name: Nebzmart-L 0.63 mg Respules (also referred to as Smartules).
- Composition: Each respule contains Levosalbutamol 0.63 mg. Levosalbutamol is also known as levalbuterol.
- Uses: NEBZMART L 0.63MG RESPULS is a bronchodilator used to treat bronchospasm and symptoms associated with asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). It helps in relieving symptoms like coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath by relaxing the muscles in the airways and increasing airflow to the lungs. It is also used for the prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm and aids in mucus clearance.
- Dosage and Administration: This medicine is for inhalation purposes only. It should be used in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. The liquid from the respule should be squeezed into a nebulizer and used immediately after opening. Do not use more than the prescribed dose as it may lead to an overdose.
- Side Effects: Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, restlessness, tremor (shakiness), headache, muscle tightness, dryness or soreness of the throat, dizziness, sleepiness, and nasal congestion (stuffy nose). More serious, though less common, effects can include hypokalemia (low potassium levels in the blood), which may affect heart health.
- Precautions: Inform your doctor if you have heart, liver, or kidney diseases, hyperthyroidism, stomach ulcer, seizures, high blood pressure, or diabetes before using this medication. NEBZMART L 0.63MG RESPULS may cause a rise in blood glucose levels and should be administered cautiously in patients with low potassium levels. It is advisable to consult a doctor if pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Driving should be avoided if dizziness or drowsiness occurs.
- Storage: Store in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep out of sight and reach of children. It should be stored at cool temperatures, between 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC.
Frequently asked questions
Here are the most frequently asked questions about NEBZMART L 0.63MG RESPULS, which contains Levosalbutamol (also known as Levalbuterol) as its active ingredient:
What is NEBZMART L 0.63MG RESPULS used for?
NEBZMART L 0.63MG RESPULS is a bronchodilator medicine primarily used to manage and prevent bronchospasm (narrowing of the airways) in patients with asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). It helps relieve symptoms like coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath, and can also prevent exercise-induced bronchospasm.
How does it work?
Levosalbutamol, the active ingredient in NEBZMART L, is a short-acting beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist. It works by relaxing the smooth muscles in the bronchial tubes of the lungs, which widens the airways and increases airflow. This relaxation is achieved by activating specific receptors that lead to an increase in a chemical called cyclic AMP, ultimately causing the muscles to relax and making breathing easier.
What is the usual dosage?
For adults and adolescents 12 years and older, the recommended starting dosage is 0.63 mg administered three to four times a day, every 6 to 8 hours, by nebulization. For more severe cases, a dosage of 1.25 mg three times a day may be prescribed. For children aged 6 to 11 years, the recommended dosage is 0.31 mg administered three times a day by nebulization, with routine dosing not exceeding 0.63 mg three times a day. Children under 6 years of age should have their dose determined by a doctor. It is crucial to use this medicine exactly as advised by your doctor and not exceed the prescribed dose.
What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects can include headache, nausea, vomiting, restlessness, tremor (shakiness, especially of the hands), dryness or soreness of the throat, dizziness, sleepiness, nasal congestion, and increased heart rate. Some patients may also experience muscle pain or cramps, pharyngitis, or rhinitis. If side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor.
Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
NEBZMART L 0.63MG RESPULS is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women unless absolutely necessary and prescribed by a doctor after careful consideration of potential risks and benefits. For breastfeeding women, its use is also not recommended as the effect on the nursing infant is not clinically established, and a doctor may advise discontinuing breastfeeding if the medicine is deemed necessary.
Can it be taken with other medications?
Levosalbutamol may interact with certain medications. It is important to inform your doctor about all medications, including over-the-counter drugs, herbal supplements, and vitamins, that you are currently taking. Specific interactions can occur with fluid retention drugs (diuretics like furosemide), heart-related drugs (digoxin), corticosteroids (e.g., fluticasone, budesonide), other bronchodilators (e.g., salmeterol), and certain antidepressants (Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants). Avoid concomitant use with other short-acting sympathomimetic bronchodilators. Beta-blockers may block the bronchodilatory effects and could cause severe bronchospasm.
What precautions should be taken?
Inform your doctor if you have heart disease (including irregular heartbeat or high blood pressure), convulsive disorders, hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), diabetes, or low potassium levels in your blood, as these conditions may require caution or dose adjustments. It should be used with caution in patients with kidney or liver impairment. Do not smoke while taking this medicine as it can worsen your lung condition. If breathing becomes more difficult after using the medicine, contact your doctor immediately.
What happens if a dose is missed?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
How should it be stored?
NEBZMART L 0.63MG RESPULS (Levosalbutamol respules) should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight, and protected from light and excessive heat. Keep it out of reach of children. Once the foil pouch is opened, respules should typically be used within two weeks.
