FREENERVE NP TAB

Name: Freenerve-NP Tablet (also referred to as Finerve NP Tablet)

Composition: FREENERVE NP TAB is a combination medicine containing three active ingredients: Methylcobalamin (a form of vitamin B), Nortriptyline (an antidepressant), and Pregabalin (an anti-convulsant). Methylcobalamin aids in producing myelin to protect and regenerate nerve cells, Nortriptyline increases nerve transmitters to reduce pain messages, and Pregabalin interferes with pain signals in the brain and spinal cord.

Uses: This medication is primarily used for the management of neuropathic pain. It is prescribed for conditions such as diabetic neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia (shingles), spinal cord injury, sciatica, fibromyalgia (managing widespread pain and fatigue), and peripheral neuropathy (reducing tingling, numbness, and burning sensations). It also helps manage chronic pain syndromes, including lower back pain and migraine prevention.

Dosage and Administration: FREENERVE NP TAB should be taken as prescribed by a doctor, with the dose and duration determined by the individual's medical condition. It can be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. The tablet should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed. It is important not to stop taking this medicine suddenly without consulting a doctor, as it may lead to withdrawal symptoms.

Side Effects: Common side effects include dizziness, sleepiness/drowsiness, nausea, blurred vision, peripheral oedema (swelling of lower legs and hands), weight gain, dry mouth, constipation, and stomach upset. Less common side effects can include diarrhoea, rash, tiredness, uncoordinated body movements, decreased appetite, difficulty in urination, orthostatic hypotension, increased heart rate, and headache. Rare but serious side effects can include suicidal thoughts or allergic reactions.

Precautions:

  • Alcohol: Avoid consuming alcohol as it can increase drowsiness and sleepiness.
  • Driving/Machinery: Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how the medicine affects you, as it may cause drowsiness and dizziness.
  • Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding, as its safety and effectiveness have not been fully established.
  • Children: Not recommended for children.
  • Medical Conditions: Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver impairment, as dose adjustments may be necessary.
  • Interactions: Inform your doctor about all other medications, including herbal supplements and over-the-counter drugs, to avoid potential interactions.
  • Mental Health: Monitor for any unusual changes in mood or behavior, new or worsening depression, or suicidal thoughts.

Storage: Store FREENERVE NP TAB in a cool and dry place, protected from moisture, sunlight, and heat. Keep it out of the sight and reach of children. It should be stored at temperatures typically between 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC.

Frequently asked questions

FREENERVE NP TAB by GENESIS REMEDIES LIFESCINCES is a combination medication containing Pregabalin and Nortriptyline. It is primarily prescribed to manage neuropathic pain and its associated symptoms.

Here are some frequently asked questions about FREENERVE NP TAB:

1. What is FREENERVE NP TAB used for?

FREENERVE NP TAB is used to treat long-lasting (chronic) neuropathic pain, which is nerve pain caused by damage to nerves due to conditions such as diabetes (diabetic neuropathy), shingles (postherpetic neuralgia), or spinal cord injury. It can also be used to manage fibromyalgia and other chronic pain conditions, helping to alleviate associated symptoms like mood changes, sleep problems, and tiredness.

2. How does FREENERVE NP TAB work?

This medicine combines two active ingredients: Pregabalin and Nortriptyline. Pregabalin calms overactive nerve signals in the brain and spinal cord by modulating calcium channel activity, thereby reducing pain sensations. Nortriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant that increases the levels of chemical messengers (serotonin and norepinephrine) in the brain, which helps regulate pain perception, mood, and sleep. Together, they work to provide effective relief from nerve-related pain.

3. What is the usual dosage for FREENERVE NP TAB?

The dosage for FREENERVE NP TAB will be determined by your doctor based on your specific condition and how you respond to the medication. Generally, Pregabalin is started at a low dose, such as 150 mg per day (split into two or three doses), and can be gradually increased to a maximum of 600 mg per day. Nortriptyline dosages for depression typically range from 25 mg three to four times daily, not usually exceeding 150 mg per day, or can be given once daily. Always follow your doctor's instructions exactly.

4. What are the possible side effects of FREENERVE NP TAB?

Common side effects of the combination can include dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, and weight gain. Other possible side effects from the individual components include headaches, fatigue, mood changes, swollen extremities, blurred vision, difficulty with erection, memory problems, and changes in appetite or urination. More serious, but rare, side effects can include suicidal thoughts, severe dizziness or fainting, hallucinations, problems urinating, allergic reactions (like angioedema – swelling of the face, lips, tongue), heart rhythm changes, serotonin syndrome, and respiratory depression (especially when taken with other CNS depressants). Report any severe or persistent side effects to your doctor.

5. Is FREENERVE NP TAB safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, it is crucial to discuss this with your doctor before taking FREENERVE NP TAB. Pregabalin may slightly increase the chance of birth defects and effective contraception is generally recommended during treatment. If you become pregnant while taking it, do not stop the medication without consulting your doctor. Pregabalin passes into breast milk in small amounts; while unlikely to cause side effects in healthy, full-term infants, caution is advised for newborns or preterm babies, and infant monitoring is recommended. The manufacturer of Pregabalin recommends against breastfeeding due to potential risks observed in animal studies. Information on Nortriptyline's safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not conclusive, and generally, these medications are only used if the potential benefits outweigh the risks.

6. Can FREENERVE NP TAB be taken with other medications?

It is very important to inform your doctor or pharmacist about all other medications, vitamins, herbal supplements, and over-the-counter drugs you are currently taking. Taking FREENERVE NP TAB with certain medications can lead to serious interactions.

  • Avoid or use with extreme caution with: Alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, muscle relaxants, sleep medications, and antihistamines, as these can increase drowsiness and the risk of respiratory depression.
  • Do not take Nortriptyline with: Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), linezolid, or intravenous methylene blue, due to the risk of serotonin syndrome.
  • Caution is also advised with: Other antidepressants (especially SSRIs and other tricyclic antidepressants), certain blood pressure medications, cimetidine, lithium, tramadol, thyroid medication, St. John's Wort, sodium valproate, valproic acid, and warfarin.

7. What precautions should be taken while taking FREENERVE NP TAB?

Do not stop taking FREENERVE NP TAB suddenly without consulting your doctor, as this can lead to withdrawal symptoms (such as anxiety, pain, difficulty sleeping, sweating, nausea, and headaches) or even seizures if you have epilepsy. This medication can cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision, so avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how it affects you. Monitor for any changes in mood or behavior, including suicidal thoughts, especially when starting the medication or changing the dose. Inform your doctor if you have heart problems, kidney disease, glaucoma, an enlarged prostate, or a history of substance use disorder. Nortriptyline may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so use sunscreen and wear protective clothing.

8. What happens if a dose of FREENERVE NP TAB is missed?

If you miss a dose of FREENERVE NP TAB, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose (e.g., within 2 hours for Pregabalin), skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. Missing doses, especially if you have epilepsy, can potentially trigger a seizure.

9. How should FREENERVE NP TAB be stored?

Store FREENERVE NP TAB in a closed container at room temperature, generally between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Keep it away from excessive heat, moisture, and direct light. Ensure the container is tightly closed and keep the medication out of the reach of children. Do not keep outdated medicine.
