MILFLOX PLUS EYE DROP 5 ML

MILFLOX PLUS EYE DROP is an ophthalmic solution manufactured by SUN PHARMA LABORATORIES LTD., designed for the treatment of various eye conditions.

  • Composition: MILFLOX PLUS EYE DROP contains two primary active ingredients:

    • Ketorolac (0.4% w/v): A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by blocking the release of chemical messengers (prostaglandins) in the body, thereby reducing pain, swelling, and inflammation.
    • Moxifloxacin (0.5% w/v): A quinolone antibiotic that functions by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes, which are crucial for bacterial DNA replication and repair, thus killing susceptible bacteria that cause infection.
    • Some formulations may also contain Benzalkonium Chloride.
  • Uses: MILFLOX PLUS EYE DROP is primarily used for the following conditions:

    • Treatment and prevention of bacterial eye infections.
    • Relief from itchy eyes caused by seasonal allergies.
    • Reduction of swelling, pain, and burning or stinging sensations after cataract surgery or corneal refractive surgery.
    • Management of inflammation and infections of the eyes (and sometimes ears, though primarily indicated for eyes).
  • Dosage and Administration:

    • Use as directed by a physician. The typical dosage for conditions like conjunctivitis may be 2 drops, instilled 4 times daily for 7 days, or as prescribed.
    • Wash hands thoroughly before and after application.
    • Tilt the head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket, and instill the prescribed number of drops without touching the dropper tip to the eye or any other surface to avoid contamination.
    • Close the eye gently for 1-2 minutes after instillation, avoiding blinking or squeezing.
    • If using other eye drops, maintain an interval of at least 5-10 minutes between applications.
    • Remove contact lenses before applying the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
  • Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

    • Blurred vision (temporary).
    • Burning, stinging, or discomfort in the eye.
    • Watery eyes, dry eyes.
    • Eye itching, redness, or irritation.
    • Headache, taste changes. Serious but less common side effects can include pain or swelling of tendons, severe allergic reactions (e.g., skin rash, swelling of face/lips), severe eye pain, redness, irritation, and changes in vision. Seek immediate medical attention if these occur.
  • Precautions:

    • Consult a doctor before use, especially if pregnant or breastfeeding, as safety information is limited.
    • Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if temporary blurred vision occurs after administration.
    • Inform your doctor if you have a history of eye surgery, diabetes, asthma, nasal polyps, dry eye syndrome, corneal problems, or allergies to any components, NSAIDs, or quinolone antibiotics.
    • Not recommended for children below two to three years of age.
    • Avoid touching the dropper tip to prevent contamination.
    • Long-term use of certain components may increase the risk of glaucoma or cataracts, requiring regular monitoring by your doctor.
  • Storage:

    • Store below 30°C in a clean, dry place.
    • Keep the medicine away from children and pets.
    • Discard the medicine 4 weeks after first opening the bottle.
    • Do not use the eye drops if the expiry date has passed or if the contents appear discolored or contain particles.
Frequently asked questions

What is Milflox Plus Eye Drop used for?

Milflox Plus Eye Drop is primarily used to reduce post-operative inflammatory conditions of the eyes, such as swelling and redness, especially after cataract or corneal refractive surgery. It also treats and prevents bacterial eye infections and can provide relief for itchy eyes caused by seasonal allergies.

How does Milflox Plus Eye Drop work?

This medicine contains two active ingredients: Ketorolac and Moxifloxacin. Ketorolac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by blocking the production of natural substances called prostaglandins, which are responsible for pain, swelling, and redness in the eye. Moxifloxacin is an antibiotic that prevents bacterial cells from dividing and repairing, thereby stopping the growth of bacteria and eliminating the infection.

What is the usual dosage for Milflox Plus Eye Drop?

The dosage should be as advised by your doctor. Typically, it involves instilling 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) 2 to 4 times a day. For conditions like conjunctivitis, a common regimen might be 2 drops, 4 times daily for 7 days. It is crucial to follow all directions carefully and not miss any doses.

What are the possible side effects of Milflox Plus Eye Drop?

Common side effects include temporary blurred vision, burning or stinging in the eyes, itching, redness, eye discomfort, and dry eyes. These effects are usually mild and tend to resolve over time. If any side effects worsen or persist, consult your doctor.

Is Milflox Plus Eye Drop safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Milflox Plus Eye Drop is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to limited information on its safety. You should consult your doctor before using this medicine, as they will assess the potential benefits against the risks.

Can Milflox Plus Eye Drop be taken with other medications?

Always inform your doctor about all other medicines, herbal preparations, and supplements you are taking to avoid potential interactions. Concomitant use with topical NSAIDs (like diclofenac) and steroids (like hydrocortisone) should be approached with caution as it may delay healing. If you use other eye drop products, maintain a minimum gap of 5 to 15 minutes between applications.

What precautions should be taken when using Milflox Plus Eye Drop?

Remove contact lenses before instilling the eye drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. Avoid touching the tip of the dropper to your eye or any other surface to prevent contamination. Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience blurred vision after using the drops until your vision is clear. Inform your doctor if you have other eye problems (e.g., corneal damage, dry eye syndrome), diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, bleeding problems, or have recently used steroid medication.

What happens if a dose of Milflox Plus Eye Drop is missed?

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to compensate for a missed one.

How should Milflox Plus Eye Drop be stored?

Store Milflox Plus Eye Drop below 30°C in a clean and dry place, away from children and pets. It is important to discard the medicine 4 weeks after first opening the bottle, even if there is still solution remaining. Do not use the eye drops if the contents appear discolored or if particles are present.
