ESOFAG D CAPSULE

ESOFAG D CAPSULE SR by MICRO LABS LTD is a prescription medication designed to manage various gastrointestinal issues.

Composition Each capsule contains:

  • Esomeprazole: 40 mg (as enteric-coated pellets)
  • Domperidone: 30 mg (as sustained-release pellets)

Uses ESOFAG D CAPSULE is primarily used to treat Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) (acid reflux) when it does not respond adequately to esomeprazole alone. It also helps alleviate associated symptoms such as heartburn, stomach pain, irritation, and acidity. Additionally, it is prescribed for conditions like stomach ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, nausea, vomiting, bloating, and dyspepsia.

Dosage and Administration The typical dosage is one capsule once daily. It should be taken on an empty stomach, preferably 30 minutes to 1 hour before a meal. Swallow the capsule whole with water; do not chew, crush, or break it. The duration of treatment should be as advised by your doctor.

Side Effects Common side effects include diarrhea, flatulence, stomach pain, dry mouth, headache, nausea, and dizziness. Serious, though less common, side effects can include heart rhythm problems (especially in vulnerable patients), decreased alertness, and, with long-term use, weak bones, magnesium deficiency, and Vitamin B12 deficiency.

Precautions ESOFAG D CAPSULE is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to its ingredients, severe liver impairment, existing cardiac conduction interval prolongation (QTc), significant electrolyte disturbances, or gastrointestinal bleeding, obstruction, or perforation. Caution is advised with alcohol consumption, and in patients with kidney disease. It may be unsafe during pregnancy and is generally not recommended during breastfeeding. Driving or operating machinery should be avoided if the medicine causes dizziness or sleepiness.

Storage Store ESOFAG D CAPSULE below 30°C in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat. Keep it out of reach of children.

Frequently asked questions

ESOFAG D CAPSULE is a combination medication containing Esomeprazole and Domperidone, commonly prescribed for gastrointestinal conditions. Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces stomach acid, while Domperidone is a prokinetic agent that improves the movement of food through the digestive tract.

Here are some frequently asked questions about ESOFAG D CAPSULE:

What is ESOFAG D CAPSULE used for?

ESOFAG D CAPSULE is primarily used in adults to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), also known as acid reflux, especially when it doesn't respond to esomeprazole alone. It helps alleviate associated symptoms like heartburn, stomach pain, and irritation. This medicine is also used to manage peptic ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, intractable nausea, vomiting, indigestion, acidity, bloating, and belching.

How does ESOFAG D CAPSULE work?

ESOFAG D CAPSULE contains two active ingredients: Esomeprazole and Domperidone. Esomeprazole works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It does this by blocking a "proton pump" in the stomach cells responsible for acid secretion. Domperidone increases the movement of the stomach and intestines, helping food pass through more easily and preventing the backflow of stomach acid into the food pipe. It also reduces feelings of nausea and vomiting by blocking stimulation in the brain's "vomiting center".

What is the usual dosage for ESOFAG D CAPSULE?

The exact dosage and duration of treatment for ESOFAG D CAPSULE should be followed as prescribed by your doctor, as it varies based on individual conditions and response. Typically, it is taken as one capsule once daily. It is crucial to take this medication on an empty stomach, ideally 1 hour before a meal, or at least 30 minutes prior. The capsule should be swallowed whole with water and not chewed, crushed, or broken. ESOFAG D CAPSULE is generally recommended for adults and should not be used in children.

What are the possible side effects of ESOFAG D CAPSULE?

Common side effects include diarrhea, flatulence, stomach pain, dry mouth, headache, nausea, and dizziness. Some individuals might also experience somnolence, rash, pruritus, or rarely, fundic gland polyps. More serious, though rare, side effects can include breast enlargement or tenderness, galactorrhoea, amenorrhea, breast pain, or irregular menstruation. If you experience persistent or severe side effects such as severe allergic reactions, signs of liver problems, severe skin reactions, chest pain, irregular heartbeat, difficulty breathing, or fits, you should seek immediate medical attention. Long-term use may also affect magnesium and vitamin B12 levels and bone health.

Is ESOFAG D CAPSULE safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

ESOFAG D CAPSULE is generally not recommended during pregnancy due to limited information on its effects in human pregnancy. It is crucial to consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or think you may be pregnant, to discuss the risks and benefits. When breastfeeding, ESOFAG D CAPSULE passes into breast milk in small amounts, and it is advised to consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Can ESOFAG D CAPSULE be taken with other medications?

It is essential to inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are currently taking, as interactions can occur. ESOFAG D CAPSULE should not be taken with nelfinavir (for HIV), and caution is advised with medications such as amiodarone, clarithromycin, ketoconazole, verapamil, diazepam, phenytoin, and warfarin. Digoxin may lead to toxicity if taken concurrently, and there is an increased risk of bleeding with warfarin. If you need to take antacids, maintain at least a 1-hour gap between taking ESOFAG D CAPSULE and the antacid.

What precautions should be taken while using ESOFAG D CAPSULE?

Before taking ESOFAG D CAPSULE, inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially severe kidney, heart, or liver problems, bone fractures, prolactinoma, intestinal blockages, gastrointestinal bleeding, or abnormal potassium or magnesium levels. Watch for symptoms like unexplained weight loss, difficulty swallowing, persistent vomiting, vomiting blood, or black stools. Since this medication can cause drowsiness and dizziness, it's advisable to avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you. Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it can worsen drowsiness and stomach acid production.

What happens if a dose of ESOFAG D CAPSULE is missed?

If you miss a dose of ESOFAG D CAPSULE, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.

How should ESOFAG D CAPSULE be stored?

ESOFAG D CAPSULE should be stored at room temperature, ideally between 20-25°C, and kept below 30°C. Ensure it is protected from moisture and light, and kept out of the sight and reach of children. It should not be stored in the bathroom.
