  • Electrolyte Imbalances: Inform your doctor if you have low levels of magnesium, calcium, or potassium in your blood, or if you are taking diuretics.
  • Alcohol: Avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medicine, as it can reduce effectiveness and delay ulcer healing.

Frequently asked questions

Here are the most frequently asked questions about LUPIVON 20 TAB, containing Vonoprazan:

What is LUPIVON 20 TAB used for?

LUPIVON 20 TAB is primarily used to treat conditions caused by excessive stomach acid. These include erosive esophagitis (inflammation and damage to the esophagus), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) with symptoms like heartburn and acidity, and stomach and duodenal ulcers. It is also used in combination with antibiotics to eradicate Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection, a common cause of stomach ulcers, and to prevent ulcer recurrence during low-dose aspirin or NSAID use.

How does LUPIVON 20 TAB work?

LUPIVON 20 TAB contains Vonoprazan, which belongs to a class of medications called potassium-competitive acid blockers (P-CABs). It works by blocking a specific protein (H+/K+-ATPase enzyme or proton pump) in the stomach lining that is responsible for producing stomach acid. By inhibiting this pump, Vonoprazan effectively reduces the amount of acid produced, allowing the esophagus and stomach lining to heal and relieving acid-related symptoms. It offers a faster onset of action and does not require acid activation, making it effective in various gastric conditions.

What is the usual dosage for LUPIVON 20 TAB?

The dosage of LUPIVON 20 TAB is determined by your doctor based on your specific condition, age, and response to treatment. It is generally taken orally once or twice daily, with or without food. The tablet should be swallowed whole with water and not crushed or chewed. For H. pylori infection, it is typically taken as 20 mg twice daily for 14 days, along with specific antibiotics. Always follow your doctor's instructions and do not alter the prescribed dose.

What are the possible side effects of LUPIVON 20 TAB?

Common side effects of LUPIVON 20 TAB may include stomach inflammation, diarrhea, bloating, stomach pain, nausea, indigestion, headache, high blood pressure, changes in taste sense, vaginal yeast infection, and cold-like symptoms. These side effects are usually mild and temporary. If you experience severe or persistent side effects, such as kidney problems, severe diarrhea with fever, bone fractures, or serious skin reactions, you should consult your doctor immediately.

Is LUPIVON 20 TAB safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

LUPIVON 20 TAB is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. There is limited information on its safety in pregnant women, and it is not known if Vonoprazan can harm an unborn baby or pass into breast milk. If you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding, it is crucial to consult your doctor to discuss the potential risks and benefits before taking this medicine.

Can LUPIVON 20 TAB be taken with other medications?

LUPIVON 20 TAB can interact with several medications. It may reduce the effectiveness of certain antiretrovirals (e.g., rilpivirine, atazanavir, nelfinavir) and medicines that require an acidic environment for absorption (e.g., iron salts, erlotinib, ketoconazole/itraconazole). It can also affect the metabolism of other drugs like verapamil, cyclosporine, clopidogrel, citalopram, and cilostazol. Always inform your doctor about all prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, supplements, and herbal products you are currently taking to avoid potential interactions.

What precautions should be taken while using LUPIVON 20 TAB?

Before taking LUPIVON 20 TAB, inform your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions, especially liver or kidney problems, or if you have low blood levels of magnesium, calcium, or potassium. LUPIVON 20 TAB may mask symptoms of gastric malignancy (stomach cancer) and can increase the risk of acute tubulointerstitial nephritis (a kidney disorder) and Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea. Long-term use may lead to decreased magnesium levels or bone weakness. It is advisable to avoid alcohol, spicy foods, and caffeine, and to stop smoking, as these can worsen symptoms or reduce the medicine's effectiveness. This medication may cause dizziness, so do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.

What happens if a dose of LUPIVON 20 TAB is missed?

If you miss a dose of LUPIVON 20 TAB for erosive esophagitis or heartburn and remember it within 12 hours of your usual time, take it as soon as you remember. If more than 12 hours have passed, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. For H. pylori infection treatment, if a dose is missed and it is within 4 hours, take it as soon as possible; otherwise, skip it. Do not take a double dose to compensate for a missed one.

How should LUPIVON 20 TAB be stored?

LUPIVON 20 TAB should be stored at room temperature, typically below 30°C (or between 10°C to 25°C), in a cool and dry place. Keep it away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Ensure the medication is kept out of the sight and reach of children and pets.
