VILORESP 100MG PULMICAPS

VILORESP Pulmicaps 100mcg/25mcg are a combination medicine manufactured by Alkem Laboratories Ltd. (Pulmocare Division) designed to facilitate easier breathing by opening the airways.

Composition Each VILORESP Pulmicap contains:

  • Fluticasone Furoate: 100mcg (an inhaled corticosteroid)
  • Vilanterol: 25mcg (a long-acting beta-agonist—LABA)

Fluticasone Furoate works by inhibiting the production of certain chemicals in the body that cause inflammation and allergies. Vilanterol acts as a bronchodilator, relaxing the muscles and opening the air passages in the lungs.

Uses VILORESP Pulmicaps are prescribed for the long-term management and treatment of:

  • Asthma: It helps to control and prevent symptoms such as wheezing and shortness of breath by reducing inflammation and improving lung function.
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD): This includes conditions like chronic bronchitis and emphysema, where it helps improve airflow obstruction and reduce exacerbations.

This medicine is intended for maintenance treatment and will not work for sudden asthma attacks; a quick-relief inhaler should be used for acute symptoms.

Dosage and Administration VILORESP Pulmicaps are for inhalation use only and should be used strictly as advised by your doctor. It is generally recommended to take the medicine at the same time every day to prevent asthma attacks. After using the inhaler, rinse your mouth with water and spit it out to help prevent fungal infections in the mouth and throat.

Frequently asked questions

What is Viloresp Pulmicaps used for?

Viloresp Pulmicaps 100mcg/25mcg Capsule is primarily used for the long-term (maintenance) treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It helps to control and prevent symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, making breathing easier and reducing exacerbations. It is not intended for the relief of sudden asthma attacks.

How does Viloresp Pulmicaps work?

Viloresp Pulmicaps 100mcg/25mcg Capsule is a combination medicine containing two active ingredients: Fluticasone Furoate and Vilanterol. Fluticasone Furoate is an inhaled corticosteroid that works by blocking the production of certain chemicals in the body that cause inflammation and allergies. Vilanterol is a long-acting beta-agonist (LABA) that relaxes the muscles in the airways of the lungs, helping them to stay open and making it easier to breathe.

What is the usual dosage of Viloresp Pulmicaps?

The dosage and duration of Viloresp Pulmicaps 100mcg/25mcg Capsule should be strictly as advised by your doctor. It is typically used for inhalation, and your doctor will determine the appropriate dose based on your medical condition. It is important to use this medicine regularly for it to be effective, even if you do not have symptoms, as its maximum effect may take a few weeks to be achieved.

What are the possible side effects of Viloresp Pulmicaps?

Common side effects of Viloresp Pulmicaps 100mcg/25mcg Capsule include nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages), upper respiratory tract infection, headache, fungal infection of the mouth, back pain, pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis, cough, oropharyngeal pain, joint pain, high blood pressure, influenza, sore throat, and fever. Some patients may also experience nausea, stomach upset, dizziness, nervousness, or vomiting. Rinsing your mouth and throat with water or brushing your teeth after using the inhaler can help prevent some symptoms like fungal infections in the mouth. If side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor.

Is Viloresp Pulmicaps safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Information regarding the use of Viloresp Pulmicaps 100mcg/25mcg Capsule during pregnancy and breastfeeding is limited or not available. It is crucial to inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding before starting this medicine. Your doctor will assess the benefits against the potential risks to prescribe a suitable course of action.

What precautions should be taken while using Viloresp Pulmicaps?

Several precautions should be taken while using Viloresp Pulmicaps 100mcg/25mcg Capsule:

  • Do not use this medicine to relieve sudden asthma attacks; always use your quick-relief inhaler for such situations.
  • Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after each inhalation to prevent fungal infections in the mouth and throat.
  • Inform your doctor if you have any other lung infections, glaucoma, cataracts, osteoporosis (weak bones), tuberculosis, kidney or liver problems, or if you are taking any immunosuppressant medicines.
  • Regular monitoring of potassium and blood sugar levels is recommended.
  • Avoid unnecessarily opening and closing the cover of the inhaler as this may lead to loss of medicine, and never breathe out into the mouthpiece.
  • This medicine is generally not recommended for children below 12 years of age.
  • If you experience severe difficulty breathing or wheezing while using the medicine, consult your doctor immediately.

Can Viloresp Pulmicaps be taken with other medications?

While specific drug interactions are not extensively detailed, it is important to inform your doctor about all medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter drugs, herbal supplements, and especially any immunosuppressant medicines. Viloresp Pulmicaps 100mcg/25mcg Capsule is for long-term control and should not be used as a rescue inhaler for acute asthma attacks; a separate quick-relief inhaler should be used in those instances.

What happens if a dose is missed?

Viloresp Pulmicaps 100mcg/25mcg Capsule must be used regularly to achieve its full effect. If you miss a dose, do not take a double dose to make up for it. Continue with your next scheduled dose. Stopping the medicine before the prescribed duration can worsen your asthma and COPD symptoms. It is best to take it at the same time every day to prevent asthma attacks.

How should Viloresp Pulmicaps be stored?

Viloresp Pulmicaps 100mcg/25mcg Capsule should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. It should be kept at temperatures between 10°C to 25°C or below 30°C. Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
