Frequently asked questions
Volini Gel 50 G is a topical pain relief medication manufactured by SUN PHARMACEUTICAL IND.LTD. It is formulated to provide relief from various musculoskeletal aches and pains.
Here are some frequently asked questions about Volini Gel:
What is Volini Gel used for?
Volini Gel is primarily used for the local symptomatic relief of pain and inflammation. It is effective for joint pain associated with arthritis, muscle pain caused by injuries such as sprains, strains, spasms, and cramps, as well as back pain, neck pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, and pain due to osteoarthritis and sports injuries.
How does Volini Gel work?
Volini Gel contains a combination of active ingredients: Diclofenac, Methyl Salicylate, Menthol, and Linseed Oil. Diclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by reducing the production of certain substances in the body (prostaglandins) that cause pain and swelling. Methyl Salicylate helps reduce swelling, redness, and pain by providing a warming sensation and desensitizing nerve endings. Menthol provides a cooling effect, dilates blood vessels, and offers an analgesic effect, also enhancing drug penetration. Linseed oil further helps decrease swelling and has anti-inflammatory properties due to its omega-3 fatty acid content.
What is the usual dosage of Volini Gel?
Volini Gel is for external use only. A small amount of gel should be applied to the affected area, forming a thin layer, usually 3-4 times a day. Gently rub the gel into the skin; it is quickly absorbed without the need for a strong massage. Always follow the dosing instructions on the label or as directed by your doctor.
What are the possible side effects of Volini Gel?
Common side effects are usually mild and may include redness, rash, itching, irritation, or a burning sensation at the site of application. These usually resolve with time. If any side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor. Allergic reactions are possible, especially in individuals allergic to NSAIDs.
Is Volini Gel safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
During pregnancy: It is generally advisable to consult your doctor before using Volini Gel if you are pregnant. Some sources suggest avoiding it, especially in the third trimester, due to the anti-inflammatory agents (NSAIDs) which may not be safe and could harm the unborn child or cause problems during delivery. During breastfeeding: Volini Gel is generally considered safe during breastfeeding due to minimal systemic absorption. However, it is recommended to consult your doctor. Avoid applying it near the breast area to prevent accidental ingestion by the infant, as topical application to the nipple may increase the risk of diarrhea in the baby.
Can Volini Gel be taken with other medications?
Volini Gel is not likely to interact with medicines taken orally or as an injection. However, it is always better to consult your doctor if you are taking other medications. Topical salicylates, an ingredient in Volini Gel, may potentiate the anticoagulant effects of blood thinners like warfarin. Avoid using other NSAID pain relief medications simultaneously with Volini Gel unless prescribed by a doctor.
What precautions should be taken when using Volini Gel?
Volini Gel is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, nose, open wounds, cuts, burns, or irritated skin. If accidental contact occurs, rinse immediately with plenty of water. Do not apply to bandaged areas. Avoid showering or bathing for at least one hour after application, and do not cover the treated area with clothes or gloves for at least ten minutes. Use with caution if you have asthma or a history of allergy to NSAIDs, as it may trigger allergic reactions or bronchospasm. Patients should also be warned against excessive exposure to sunlight to reduce the incidence of photosensitivity. Consult a doctor if you have coagulation problems, high blood pressure, heart failure, or kidney problems. It is not recommended for children under 12 years of age without consulting a doctor.
What happens if a dose of Volini Gel is missed?
Volini Gel is typically applied when pain is felt, so missing a dose is uncommon. If you miss an application, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled application, skip the missed one. Do not apply extra gel to make up for a missed dose, as this may increase the risk of skin irritation.
How should Volini Gel be stored?
Volini Gel should be stored at room temperature (between 15-25°C or below 30°C), away from moisture, heat, and direct sunlight. It should not be frozen. Keep the product out of the reach of children.
