Frequently asked questions

RESTECLIN 250 MG CAPSULE (10 CAP) by ABBOTT HEALTHCARE PVT. LTD. is an antibiotic containing Tetracycline.

What is RESTECLIN 250 MG CAPSULE used for?

RESTECLIN 250 MG CAPSULE is a broad-spectrum antibiotic primarily used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections throughout the body. This includes respiratory tract infections (like bronchitis and pneumonia), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections (like acne and cellulitis), eye infections, and certain sexually transmitted infections such as syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia. It is not effective against viral infections like the common cold or flu.

How does RESTECLIN 250 MG CAPSULE work?

RESTECLIN 250 MG CAPSULE, containing Tetracycline, works by inhibiting the growth and proliferation of bacteria. It achieves this by disrupting the production of essential bacterial proteins crucial for their survival and ability to multiply. By blocking protein synthesis, it effectively halts bacterial growth and spread, allowing the body's natural defenses to clear the infection.

What is the usual dosage of RESTECLIN 250 MG CAPSULE?

The typical adult dosage of RESTECLIN 250 MG CAPSULE can vary depending on the infection being treated, but it is often 250 mg to 500 mg taken every six hours. For some conditions, a typical dose might be 500 mg twice daily or 250 mg four times daily. It should be taken on an empty stomach, ideally one hour before or two hours after meals, with water. It is crucial to follow your doctor's specific instructions and complete the entire prescribed course, even if symptoms improve, to prevent antibiotic resistance and recurrence of the infection.

What are the possible side effects of RESTECLIN 250 MG CAPSULE?

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, stomach upset, mouth sores, black hairy tongue, sore throat, dizziness, headache, and increased sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity). If dizziness occurs, activities requiring mental alertness should be avoided. Severe or prolonged diarrhea with blood or mucus could indicate a serious bowel inflammation and requires immediate medical attention. Discontinue the medication and contact your doctor immediately if you experience a rash, itchy skin, swelling of the face and mouth, or difficulty breathing.

Is RESTECLIN 250 MG CAPSULE safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

RESTECLIN 250 MG CAPSULE is generally not recommended during pregnancy as there is definite evidence of risk to the developing baby, potentially affecting bone development and causing permanent tooth discoloration. It is also not advised during breastfeeding as it can pass into breast milk and may affect the baby's bone and tooth development, leading to permanent tooth discoloration. Consult your doctor for safer alternatives if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Can it be taken with other medications?

RESTECLIN 250 MG CAPSULE can interact with several medications. Avoid taking antacids, multivitamins, iron supplements, calcium supplements, or laxatives (especially those containing aluminum, magnesium, bismuth, or zinc) within 2 to 3 hours before or after taking RESTECLIN 250 MG CAPSULE, as they can reduce its absorption and effectiveness. It can also affect the efficacy of oral contraceptives, so alternative contraception may be needed. Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including penicillins, vitamin A, retinoids (like acitretin, isotretinoin, tretinoin), and anticoagulants (like warfarin), as interactions can occur.

What precautions should be taken?

Avoid excessive sun exposure and use sunscreen and protective clothing while taking this medicine due to increased photosensitivity. Do not take RESTECLIN 250 MG CAPSULE with milk or dairy products as they can interfere with absorption. It is not recommended for children under 8 years of age due to the risk of permanent tooth discoloration. Use with caution if you have kidney or liver disease, and inform your doctor about any such conditions. Complete the full course of antibiotics as prescribed to prevent the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose of RESTECLIN 250 MG CAPSULE, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.

How should it be stored?

RESTECLIN 250 MG CAPSULE should be stored at room temperature, below 25°C, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Keep the medication in its original packing and out of reach of children and pets. Do not use the medication if it has expired.
