MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP 5 ML

MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP is an ophthalmic solution manufactured by AKUMS DRUGS & PHARMACEUTICALS LTD.

  • Composition:

    • Moxifloxacin: A fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth and prevents the spread of infection.
    • Ketorolac: A nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces pain, swelling, redness, and itching by blocking the production of inflammatory chemicals.
  • Uses: MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP is prescribed for the treatment of bacterial eye infections, including bacterial conjunctivitis. It is also used to manage post-operative inflammation and prevent infection following eye surgeries such as cataract surgery or corneal refractive surgery. Additionally, it can provide relief from general eye pain, itching, inflammation, discomfort, and irritation, including that caused by seasonal allergies.

  • Dosage and Administration: Typically, instill one or two drops in the affected eye(s) every four to six hours, or as directed by a healthcare professional.

    • Wash hands thoroughly before use and avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface.
    • Tilt the head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a pocket, instill the drops, and then gently close the eye for 2-3 minutes. Avoid excessive blinking.
    • Complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve.
    • Remove contact lenses before application and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting.
    • If using other eye drops, maintain a 5-minute interval between applications.
  • Side Effects: Common side effects may include temporary burning or stinging sensation, blurred vision, dry eyes, eye discomfort, and eye irritation. Less common side effects can include eye pain, redness, swelling of the eyelids, or increased tear production. Seek immediate medical attention for serious allergic reactions, vision changes, or severe pain.

  • Precautions: Inform your doctor about any allergies to the ingredients or other NSAIDs/antibiotics. Disclose existing eye conditions like dry eye syndrome or corneal damage, and medical history including diabetes, asthma, or bleeding disorders. Not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding without consulting a doctor. Avoid driving or operating machinery if blurred vision occurs.

  • Storage: Store MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture.

Frequently asked questions

Here are some frequently asked questions about MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP:

What is MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP used for?

MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP is primarily used to treat and prevent bacterial eye infections and inflammation. It is also effective in relieving swelling, pain, and burning or stinging sensations following eye surgeries like cataract surgery or corneal refractive surgery, and can help with itchy eyes caused by seasonal allergies.

How does MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP work?

This medicine contains two active ingredients: Ketorolac and Moxifloxacin. Ketorolac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by blocking certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) in the body responsible for pain, inflammation, redness, and swelling. Moxifloxacin is a quinolone antibiotic that kills susceptible bacteria by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase, an enzyme crucial for bacterial replication, transcription, and repair.

What is the usual dosage for MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP?

The specific dosage and duration of MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP should be determined by your doctor based on your medical condition. For eye infections like conjunctivitis, a common regimen might be 2 drops, 4 times daily for 7 days, or as directed by your healthcare provider. It is crucial to complete the full course of treatment as advised, even if symptoms improve, to ensure the infection is fully eradicated and to prevent recurrence.

What are the possible side effects of MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP?

Common side effects may include a temporary burning or stinging sensation, blurred vision, mild eye itching, redness, irritation, dry eyes, eye discomfort, and headache. Less common or rare side effects can include eye pain, swelling of the eyelids, increased tear production, sensitivity to light, and taste changes. You should stop using the drops and consult your doctor immediately if you experience severe eye pain, vision changes, severe allergic reactions (like skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, throat, or tongue causing difficulty breathing or swallowing), or pain or swelling of tendons.

Is MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary, and only after discussing the potential benefits and risks with your doctor. While some sources suggest maternal use of moxifloxacin eye drops presents negligible risk for a nursing infant, it is still advised to consult your healthcare provider. To minimize absorption into the bloodstream and breastmilk, you can apply pressure over the tear duct (naso-lachrymal occlusion) for about a minute after instilling the drops and wipe away any excess solution.

Can MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP be taken with other medications?

Inform your doctor about all prescription, non-prescription, herbal, and vitamin supplements you are currently taking to avoid potential interactions. Concomitant use with other topical NSAIDs or steroids (like diclofenac, hydrocortisone, mometasone) should be used with caution as it may slow or delay healing. If you are using other eye drop products, maintain a minimum gap of 5 minutes between applications of different medications.

What precautions should be taken while using MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP?

Remove soft contact lenses before applying MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface to prevent contamination. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery if you experience blurred vision after using the drops. Inform your doctor if you have a history of severe viral or fungal eye/ear infections, dry eyes, diabetes, stomach ulcers, bleeding disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, nasal polyps, or if you have recently used a steroid medicine. This medicine is not recommended for children below 2 years of age due to a lack of safety data.

What happens if a dose of MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP is missed?

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not use a double dose to compensate for a missed one.

How should MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP be stored?

Store MAHAFLOX KT EYE DROP below 30°C in a clean and dry place, protected from light. Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children and pets. Discard the medicine properly after the expiry date or 4 weeks from the date of first opening the bottle, whichever comes first.
