Description

DAPANOPA L TAB by MEDLEY

Name: Dapanova-L Tablet

Composition: Dapanova-L Tablet contains a combination of two active ingredients:

  • Dapagliflozin (10 mg)
  • Linagliptin (5 mg)

Dapagliflozin is a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, and Linagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor.

Uses: Dapanova-L Tablet is prescribed for adults with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control. It works by increasing the removal of sugar by the kidneys and boosting insulin release, particularly after meals, while also decreasing glucose production by the liver. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of heart failure and kidney complications associated with diabetes, and treats chronic kidney disease in adults with reduced kidney function.

Dosage and Administration: This medicine should be taken orally, typically once daily in the morning, with or without food. The tablet should be swallowed whole and not chewed, crushed, or broken. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day to help with remembrance. Do not stop taking Dapanova-L Tablet without consulting your doctor.

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects: Urinary tract infections, nasopharyngitis (cold-like symptoms), diarrhea, headache, dizziness, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), nausea, vomiting, cough, skin rash or itching, and genital yeast infections.
  • Serious Side Effects (less common): Diabetic ketoacidosis, dehydration, acute kidney injury, and severe allergic reactions such as angioedema or anaphylaxis.

Precautions:

  • Dapanova-L Tablet is contraindicated in patients with Type 1 diabetes, severe kidney or liver disease, or a known allergy to dapagliflozin, linagliptin, or any other ingredients.
  • It is not recommended during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
  • Use with caution in patients with existing kidney or liver problems, urinary tract infections, or those taking diuretics.
  • Excessive alcohol intake should be avoided as it can increase the risk of hypoglycemia and ketoacidosis.
  • Patients may experience dizziness, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery until the effects of the medication are known.
  • Interactions may occur with insulin or insulin secretagogues (e.g., sulfonylureas), increasing the risk of hypoglycemia.
  • Abrupt discontinuation can lead to increased blood sugar levels and potential complications.

Storage: Store Dapanova-L Tablet in a cool and dry place, protected from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it out of the sight and reach of children and pets. The recommended storage temperature is typically between 10°C to 25°C or below 30°C.

Frequently asked questions

What is Dapanova L Tab used for?

Dapanova L Tab is an antidiabetic medicine primarily used to treat Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in adults, in conjunction with a healthy diet and regular exercise. It also helps to improve blood sugar control and can reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease in adults with reduced kidney function.

How does Dapanova L Tab work?

Dapanova L Tab contains two active ingredients: Dapagliflozin and Linagliptin. Dapagliflozin works as a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, increasing the removal of excess sugar from the body through urine by blocking its reabsorption in the kidneys. Linagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that increases the levels of natural substances called incretins, which help regulate insulin release after meals and decrease the amount of sugar produced by the liver.

What is the usual dosage for Dapanova L Tab?

Dapanova L Tab is typically taken orally, once daily, preferably in the morning, with or without food. It is important to swallow the tablet whole with water and not to chew, crush, or break it. The exact dosage and duration of treatment will be determined by your doctor based on your medical condition and response to treatment.

What are the possible side effects of Dapanova L Tab?

Common side effects can include urinary tract infections, nasopharyngitis (cold-like symptoms), vaginal yeast infections (more common in women), diarrhea, headache, dizziness, cough, skin rash or itching, and frequent urination. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) may also occur, especially when taken with other antidiabetic medicines or alcohol. Serious but rare side effects can include ketoacidosis, dehydration, acute kidney injury, and serious genital infections like Fournier's gangrene.

Is Dapanova L Tab safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Dapanova L Tab is generally not recommended during pregnancy, particularly in the second and third trimesters, due to potential risks of fetal kidney injury. Similarly, it is not advised during breastfeeding as there is limited data on its effects, and it may pass into breast milk, potentially affecting a baby's developing kidneys. Always consult your doctor for safer alternatives if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

Can Dapanova L Tab be taken with other medications?

Dapanova L Tab can interact with other medications. It may increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) if taken with insulin or insulin secretagogues (e.g., sulfonylureas), possibly requiring a dosage adjustment of these medications. Diuretics may enhance the potential for volume depletion, and certain antibiotics like rifampin may reduce the effectiveness of linagliptin. It is crucial to inform your doctor about all medicines you are currently taking to avoid potential interactions.

What precautions should be taken while taking Dapanova L Tab?

Do not stop taking Dapanova L Tab abruptly without consulting your doctor, as this can lead to a rapid increase in blood sugar levels and serious complications. It should not be used for Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus or in individuals with severe kidney or liver disease. Be cautious if you have a history of pancreatitis or are prone to ketoacidosis. Maintaining good personal hygiene can help prevent genital infections. It's also important to drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration. Since the medicine may cause dizziness, exercise caution when driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.

What happens if a dose of Dapanova L Tab is missed?

If you miss a dose of Dapanova L Tab, take it as soon as you remember. However, if your next scheduled dose is approaching, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should Dapanova L Tab be stored?

Dapanova L Tab should be stored in a cool and dry place, protected from direct sunlight and moisture. The ideal storage temperature is typically between 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC. Always keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children and pets.
