Frequently asked questions

MAXTRA P TAB is a medication manufactured by Zuventus Healthcare Ltd., commonly used to relieve symptoms associated with colds and flu.

What is MAXTRA P TAB used for?

MAXTRA P TAB is used for the symptomatic treatment of common cold and flu-like symptoms. It helps relieve aches and pains, sore throats, headache, nasal congestion, runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing, and fever. It is also used to manage symptoms of allergic rhinitis.

How does MAXTRA P TAB work?

MAXTRA P TAB is a combination of three active ingredients: Paracetamol, Phenylephrine Hydrochloride, and Chlorpheniramine Maleate. Paracetamol acts as a painkiller and reduces fever. Phenylephrine Hydrochloride is a decongestant that helps unblock the nose and sinuses, making breathing easier. Chlorpheniramine Maleate is an antihistamine that relieves symptoms of allergic reactions such as sneezing, watery eyes, and runny nose.

What is the usual dosage for MAXTRA P TAB?

For adults and children 12 years of age and older, the usual dosage is one tablet every 4 to 6 hours. It is important not to exceed the recommended amount of 8 tablets (4 doses) in any 24-hour period. Leave at least 4 to 6 hours between doses. The tablet should be swallowed whole with water and not chewed.

What are the possible side effects of MAXTRA P TAB?

Common side effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, difficulty sleeping (insomnia), nervousness, anxiety, diarrhea, stomach pain, dry mouth, and blurred vision. More serious but rare side effects can include severe allergic reactions (skin rash, swelling, shortness of breath), breathing problems, unexplained bruising or bleeding, and liver problems. If you experience any persistent or severe side effects, consult your doctor.

Is MAXTRA P TAB safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

MAXTRA P TAB is generally not recommended during pregnancy unless specifically advised by a doctor. There is limited human data, and animal studies have shown potential harmful effects on the developing baby. Similarly, it should not be used by breastfeeding women unless advised by a doctor, as components of this medicine may pass into breast milk.

Can MAXTRA P TAB be taken with other medications?

You should inform your doctor or pharmacist about all other medicines you are taking, including prescribed, non-prescribed, herbal medicines, and dietary supplements. MAXTRA P TAB should not be taken with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of stopping such treatment. It should also be used with caution or avoided with other medicines containing paracetamol or phenylephrine, alcohol, beta-blockers, vasodilators, tricyclic antidepressants, strong painkillers, sleeping tablets, phenytoin, metoclopramide, domperidone, ergotamine, methylsergide, colestyramine, appetite suppressants or stimulants, digoxin, and warfarin.

What precautions should be taken while using MAXTRA P TAB?

This medicine may cause drowsiness and dizziness, so do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you. Avoid consuming alcohol while taking MAXTRA P TAB, as it can worsen drowsiness and increase the risk of liver damage. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine if you have underlying conditions such as kidney or liver problems, overactive thyroid, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart or circulation disease, an enlarged prostate, phaeochromocytoma, glaucoma, asthma, bronchitis, bronchiectasis, epilepsy, or a rare blood disease called porphyria. Do not take it if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, but ensure there is at least a 4 to 6-hour interval before your next dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. Continue with your regular dosing schedule and do not exceed the maximum recommended daily dose.

How should MAXTRA P TAB be stored?

Store MAXTRA P TAB in its original container, tightly closed, and away from direct sunlight. Keep it at a temperature not exceeding 30ºC and out of the reach of children.
