Frequently asked questions
Here are frequently asked questions about SIZODON 1 TABLET:
What is Sizodon 1 Tablet used for?
Sizodon 1 Tablet is an antipsychotic medication primarily used to treat schizophrenia, a mental disorder that can cause hallucinations, delusions, and affect a person's ability to think and behave. It is also used to manage manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder and to treat irritability in children and adolescents (ages 5-17) with autism.
How does Sizodon 1 Tablet work?
Sizodon 1 Tablet contains Risperidone, which is an atypical antipsychotic. It works by affecting the levels of certain chemical messengers in the brain, specifically dopamine and serotonin. By blocking their receptors, it helps to restore their balance, which improves mood, thoughts, and behavior.
What is the usual dosage of Sizodon 1 Tablet?
The dosage of Sizodon 1 Tablet varies depending on the condition being treated, the patient's age, and individual response. For schizophrenia, an initial dose might be 1 mg twice daily, gradually increasing to a target dose of 3 mg twice daily by the third day, with further adjustments made at intervals of at least one week. For mania, it may start at 2 mg once daily, increased in steps of 1 mg daily. It can be taken with or without food, preferably at night, and at the same time each day to maintain consistent levels in the body. It is crucial to follow your doctor's specific instructions.
What are the possible side effects of Sizodon 1 Tablet?
Common side effects may include headache, insomnia (difficulty sleeping), drowsiness, sedation, dizziness, increased saliva production, weight gain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, and fatigue. More serious but rare side effects can include Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS), characterized by fever, muscle rigidity, and altered consciousness, and Tardive Dyskinesia, which involves involuntary muscle movements.
Is Sizodon 1 Tablet safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Sizodon 1 Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy, and its safety for human pregnancy has not been established. Animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. It is generally not recommended during breastfeeding as it and its metabolites are excreted in human breast milk and may cause side effects in the baby like poor feeding or difficulty sleeping. Always consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
Can Sizodon 1 Tablet be taken with other medications?
Sizodon 1 Tablet can interact with various medications. It should not be consumed with alcohol, as it can cause excessive drowsiness. It may also interact with CNS depressants, antihypertensives, levodopa, carbamazepine (which can decrease risperidone levels), and clozapine (which may decrease risperidone clearance). Taking it with ritonavir and indinavir may increase the risk of Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome. Always inform your doctor about all other medications, supplements, and herbal products you are taking.
What precautions should be taken while taking Sizodon 1 Tablet?
Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you experience dizziness or sleepiness, as this medicine can impair your alertness and vision. Monitor your weight, blood sugar, cholesterol, and fat levels regularly, as Sizodon 1 Tablet can cause increases in these. Use caution if you have a history of heart diseases, kidney or liver problems, epilepsy, or Parkinson's disease. Do not stop taking the medication suddenly without consulting your doctor, as it can worsen symptoms.
What happens if a dose of Sizodon 1 Tablet is missed?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. If you miss two or more doses, contact your doctor for advice.
How should Sizodon 1 Tablet be stored?
Sizodon 1 Tablet should be stored in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture, and kept out of the reach of children. It should not be stored above 30°C.
