Frequently asked questions

What is Forxiga 10mg used for?

Forxiga 10mg (dapagliflozin) is primarily used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus by helping to lower blood sugar levels. It is also prescribed for reducing the risk of heart failure hospitalization and for managing chronic kidney disease in certain patients.

How does Forxiga work?

Forxiga is a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It works by blocking the reabsorption of glucose in the kidneys, causing excess glucose to be excreted in the urine, which helps lower blood sugar levels.

What is the usual dosage of Forxiga?

The typical dose is 10mg once daily, taken with or without food. Dosage may be adjusted by your doctor based on your medical condition and response to treatment.

What are the possible side effects of Forxiga?

Common side effects include urinary tract infections, genital infections, increased urination, and thirst. Less commonly, it may cause dehydration, low blood pressure, or increased levels of ketones in the blood (ketoacidosis).

Is Forxiga safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Forxiga is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as its safety in these situations has not been established. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Can Forxiga be taken with other medications?

Forxiga can interact with other medicines, especially diuretics (water pills), insulin, or other diabetes medications, which may increase the risk of low blood sugar or dehydration. Always inform your doctor about all medications you are taking.

What precautions should be taken while using Forxiga?

Stay well hydrated, monitor for signs of urinary or genital infections, and watch for symptoms of dehydration or ketoacidosis (such as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, or rapid breathing). Inform your doctor if you have a history of kidney problems or low blood pressure.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should Forxiga be stored?

Store Forxiga at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and direct light. Keep it out of reach of children and do not use it past the expiry date.
