WOKRIDE CAPSULE

Name

Brand Name: Wokride Capsule 75mg/20mg SR

Composition

Wokride Capsule contains a combination of two active ingredients:

  • Rabeprazole (20 mg)
  • Levosulpiride (75 mg)

Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that reduces stomach acid production, while Levosulpiride is a prokinetic agent that enhances gastrointestinal motility.

Uses

Wokride Capsule is prescribed for the management of various gastrointestinal conditions, including:

  • Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), which encompasses acid reflux, heartburn, and acidity
  • Peptic ulcers, including stomach and duodenal ulcers
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Functional dyspepsia
  • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
  • Diabetic gastroparesis

Dosage and Administration

This medicine should be taken orally as directed by a healthcare professional. It is generally advised to take Wokride Capsule on an empty stomach, at least one hour before a meal. The capsule should be swallowed whole with water and should not be chewed, crushed, or broken.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea, constipation, flatulence, and stomach pain
  • Headache, dizziness, and drowsiness
  • Dry mouth

More serious, though less common, side effects can include abnormal body movements, increased breast size, abnormal milk production, absence of periods, low blood pressure, and allergic reactions. Long-term use may also lead to an increased risk of bone fractures and low magnesium levels (hypomagnesemia).

Precautions

Wokride Capsule is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it can worsen symptoms and enhance side effects like confusion and drowsiness. Patients should avoid driving or operating machinery if they experience dizziness or drowsiness.

Caution is advised for individuals with pre-existing conditions such as liver disease, kidney disease, osteoporosis, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, or a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or obstruction. It may interact with several other medications, including certain antifungals, anticoagulants, and immunosuppressants.

Storage

Store Wokride Capsule at room temperature, ideally below 30°C. It should be protected from direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture, and kept out of the reach of children.

Frequently asked questions

WOKRIDE CAPSULE is a prescription medicine containing Rabeprazole (20 mg) and Levosulpiride (75 mg). Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that reduces stomach acid production, while Levosulpiride is a prokinetic agent that enhances gut motility. This combination helps manage various gastrointestinal conditions.

What is WOKRIDE CAPSULE used for?

WOKRIDE CAPSULE is primarily used to treat gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition where stomach acid flows back into the food pipe, causing heartburn and irritation. It also treats acidity, peptic ulcers (sores in the stomach or intestine lining), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, functional dyspepsia, and diabetic gastroparesis.

How does WOKRIDE CAPSULE work?

WOKRIDE CAPSULE works through its two active ingredients. Rabeprazole reduces stomach acid by blocking the gastric proton pump, an enzyme responsible for acid production. Levosulpiride, a prokinetic, increases the pressure of the inferior oesophageal sphincter and stimulates the release of acetylcholine, which promotes the movement of food from the stomach into the intestines, thereby preventing acid and food reflux.

What is the usual dosage for WOKRIDE CAPSULE?

WOKRIDE CAPSULE should be taken orally as a whole capsule with water, typically once daily, at least one hour before food, preferably in the morning. The exact dosage and duration will be determined by your doctor based on your condition and response to the medication. It should not be chewed, crushed, or broken.

What are the possible side effects of WOKRIDE CAPSULE?

Common side effects may include headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, gas, constipation, dizziness, and drowsiness. Some patients might experience flu-like symptoms or weakness. Less common but more serious side effects can include abnormal body movements, increased breast size, abnormal milk production, absence of menstrual periods, osteoporosis (with prolonged use), and low magnesium levels (hypomagnesemia). If any side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor.

Is WOKRIDE CAPSULE safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

WOKRIDE CAPSULE is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy as its components might harm the unborn baby. It is also advised against during breastfeeding, as the medicine may pass into breast milk. Always consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding before taking this medication.

Can WOKRIDE CAPSULE be taken with other medications?

WOKRIDE CAPSULE can interact with several medications. For example, it may reduce the effectiveness of antifungals (like ketoconazole), anti-HIV drugs (like atazanavir), and certain anti-cancer medicines (like erlotinib). It can also affect the blood-thinning action of warfarin and increase the levels of methotrexate. Inform your doctor about all other medications, supplements, and herbal products you are taking to prevent potential interactions. Medicines that neutralize gastric acids, like sucralfate, should be taken with at least a 2-hour gap.

What precautions should be taken while using WOKRIDE CAPSULE?

Avoid consuming alcohol while taking WOKRIDE CAPSULE as it can worsen acidity, heartburn, and may increase CNS depressive side effects like confusion and drowsiness. Exercise caution if you have liver or kidney problems, a history of pheochromocytoma, epilepsy, mania, gastrointestinal bleeding, or intestinal obstruction. Prolonged use (over one year) may increase the risk of osteoporosis (weak and brittle bones) and hypomagnesemia. Due to potential dizziness and drowsiness, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how the medicine affects you. WOKRIDE CAPSULE is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

What happens if a dose of WOKRIDE CAPSULE is missed?

If you miss a dose of WOKRIDE CAPSULE, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should WOKRIDE CAPSULE be stored?

WOKRIDE CAPSULE should be stored in a cool and dry place, ideally below 30°C. Protect it from direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children and pets, and ensure it is used before its expiration date.
