Frequently asked questions

TRAPIC Injection, containing Tranexamic Acid, is an anti-fibrinolytic medicine used to manage and prevent excessive bleeding in various medical conditions. It is administered by healthcare professionals and should not be self-injected.

What is TRAPIC Injection used for?

TRAPIC Injection is primarily used to reduce and control excessive bleeding. This includes heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia), abnormal blood loss during or after surgical procedures (such as tooth extractions in hemophiliacs, prostate, bladder, or cervical surgery), nosebleeds (epistaxis), internal bleeding due to abnormal blood clotting mechanisms, and postpartum hemorrhage (bleeding after childbirth).

How does TRAPIC Injection work?

TRAPIC Injection contains tranexamic acid, which is an anti-fibrinolytic agent. It works by preventing the breakdown of blood clots, thereby helping to stop or reduce excessive bleeding. Tranexamic acid achieves this by inhibiting enzymes that dissolve fibrin clots, which are essential for blood clotting.

What is the usual dosage of TRAPIC Injection?

TRAPIC Injection is administered by a healthcare professional, typically as a slow injection into a vein (intravenous infusion). The specific dose and frequency will be determined by your doctor based on your medical condition, age, and other underlying problems. It is not intended for self-administration.

What are the possible side effects of TRAPIC Injection?

Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, back pain, joint pain, muscle cramps, injection site reactions (pain, redness), and fatigue. More serious but rare side effects can include blurred vision or loss of color vision, and an increased risk of blood clot formation. If you experience persistent or severe side effects, or sudden changes in vision, contact your doctor immediately.

Is TRAPIC Injection safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Regarding pregnancy, information varies across sources. Some state it is generally safe or probably safe for use during pregnancy, while others advise caution and suggest that a doctor should prescribe it only if considered essential after assessing benefits over risks, as there is limited safety information. For breastfeeding, TRAPIC Injection passes into human milk in small amounts. Some sources indicate it is safe, while others suggest it is probably unsafe or that close monitoring of the infant is recommended. It is advisable to consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

Can TRAPIC Injection be taken with other medications?

You should inform your doctor about all other medications, herbal preparations, and supplements you are taking. TRAPIC Injection may interact with certain drugs. Its effect may be reduced if taken with blood thinners (anticoagulants like warfarin or heparin). Taking it with oral contraceptive pills or hormone replacement therapy may increase the risk of blood clot formation. Additionally, it should not be taken with fibrinolytic agents (medicines that dissolve blood clots) as they may counteract its effect. Potentially fatal interactions can occur with estrogens, Factor IX complex concentrates, or anti-inhibitor coagulant concentrates.

What precautions should be taken while receiving TRAPIC Injection?

Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, a history of blood clot formation (thromboembolic diseases), eye problems, or a history of seizures. Regular eye check-ups are recommended for patients on long-term treatment with tranexamic acid due to the potential for vision disturbances. TRAPIC Injection is not recommended if you have certain clotting disorders or subarachnoid hemorrhage. Do not self-administer this medication.

What happens if a dose of TRAPIC Injection is missed?

Since TRAPIC Injection is administered in a healthcare setting by a doctor or nurse, it is unlikely that a dose will be missed. However, if you believe a dose was missed, you should inform your doctor or nurse immediately.

How should TRAPIC Injection be stored?

TRAPIC Injection should be stored in a cool and dry place, protected from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat. It should be kept out of sight and reach of children.
