Frequently asked questions

CANDID CREAM 50 G by GLENMARK PHARMACEUTICALS LTD. is an antifungal medication primarily used to treat various fungal skin infections. The active ingredient, clotrimazole, works by inhibiting the growth of fungi.

What is Candid Cream used for?

Candid Cream is used to treat a range of fungal skin infections, including athlete's foot, ringworm, jock itch, fungal nappy rash, fungal sweat rash, and other types of candidiasis. It also helps alleviate associated symptoms such as itching, redness, inflammation, and scaling.

How does Candid Cream work?

Candid Cream contains clotrimazole, an antifungal agent. It works by damaging the fungal cell membrane, specifically by inhibiting the biosynthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of the fungal cell wall. This disruption causes the fungal cell contents to leak out, ultimately killing the fungus and clearing the infection.

What is the usual dosage and how should it be applied?

Candid Cream should be applied thinly and evenly to the affected areas two or three times daily, gently rubbing it in. Before application, ensure the skin in the affected area is clean and dry. Wash your hands before and after applying the cream, unless your hands are the area being treated. The duration of treatment depends on the type and severity of the infection, usually ranging from 1 to 4 weeks, and should be continued for at least two weeks after symptoms improve to prevent recurrence. Do not use it for more than 4 weeks unless advised by a doctor.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects of Candid Cream may include itching, rash, blisters, burning, discomfort, swelling, irritation, redness, stinging, or peeling of the skin at the application site. In rare cases, allergic reactions such as severe rash, swallowing or breathing problems, swelling of the lips, face, throat, or tongue, weakness, dizziness, or nausea may occur. If you experience signs of an allergic reaction, stop using the cream and seek immediate medical attention.

Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Candid Cream (clotrimazole) is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. It is also considered safe to use while breastfeeding, as it is very unlikely that any significant amount will pass into breast milk. However, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is advisable to consult your doctor or midwife before using Candid Cream. When applying the cream, be careful that the baby does not come into contact with the treated areas, and wash your hands after application before handling your baby.

Can it be taken with other medications?

Since Candid Cream is applied to the skin, it is less likely to interact with oral medications. However, it is generally not advisable to use other topical creams or ointments on the same affected area simultaneously without consulting your doctor. Candid Cream may reduce the effectiveness of rubber contraceptives, such as condoms or diaphragms, if applied to the vulva or penis; alternative contraception should be used for at least five days after using the product in these areas.

What precautions should be taken?

Candid Cream is for external use only. Do not swallow it or get it in your eyes or mouth. If accidental contact occurs, rinse immediately with water and contact your doctor. Avoid scratching the infected area, as this can spread the infection. Keep the affected skin clean and dry, and avoid sharing towels or bath mats to prevent spreading the infection. If symptoms persist or worsen after 7 days, consult your doctor. Do not cover the treated area with airtight bandages unless advised by a doctor.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose, apply the cream as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular application schedule. Do not apply extra cream to compensate for a missed dose.

How should it be stored?

Candid Cream should be stored in its original carton, below 25°C, in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep all medicines out of sight and reach of children. Do not use the cream after the expiry date printed on the carton and tube.
