Frequently asked questions

Here are some frequently asked questions about GLUCOMOL 0.5% EYE DROP 5 ML:

What is Glucomol 0.5% Eye Drop used for?

Glucomol 0.5% Eye Drop is primarily used to treat elevated pressure inside the eye, a condition known as ocular hypertension, and open-angle glaucoma. It helps to reduce the risk of vision loss associated with high eye pressure.

How does Glucomol 0.5% Eye Drop work?

This medicine contains Timolol, which is a non-selective beta-blocker. It works by decreasing the production of aqueous humor, the fluid within the eye, thereby lowering the intraocular pressure and preventing damage to the optic nerve.

What is the usual dosage of Glucomol 0.5% Eye Drop?

The usual starting dose for adults is one drop of 0.25% or 0.5% solution in the affected eye(s) once or twice a day, as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor may adjust the dose based on your response. It is important not to exceed one drop of 0.5% solution twice a day.

How should Glucomol 0.5% Eye Drop be applied?

Before applying, wash your hands thoroughly. Tilt your head back slightly and gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the dropper above your eye without touching it, and instill the prescribed number of drops. Close your eye for 2-3 minutes, and do not blink or rub your eye immediately after application. If you are using other eye medications, wait at least 5-10 minutes between applications.

What are the possible side effects of Glucomol 0.5% Eye Drop?

Common side effects can include temporary burning, stinging, irritation, redness, blurred vision, headache, and watery eyes. Consult your doctor if any side effects persist or worsen.

Is Glucomol 0.5% Eye Drop safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Glucomol 0.5% Eye Drop should be used with caution during pregnancy, and it is generally not recommended for breastfeeding women, as its component Timolol Maleate has been detected in human milk. Always consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Can Glucomol 0.5% Eye Drop be taken with other medications?

While it is less likely to interact with systemic medicines due to external application, it can interact with certain medications. Inform your doctor if you are taking other eye drops, systemic beta-blockers, medicines for heart conditions (e.g., diltiazem, verapamil, digoxin, quinidine), diabetes medications (e.g., metformin, glimepiride), or blood pressure medications like clonidine. The concomitant use of two topical beta-adrenergic blocking agents is not recommended.

What precautions should be taken?

Avoid using Glucomol 0.5% Eye Drop if you have respiratory conditions like bronchial asthma or severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or certain heart conditions such as heart failure, sinus bradycardia, or cardiogenic shock. If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before applying the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them to prevent discoloration. This medicine may cause temporary blurred vision or dizziness, so avoid driving or operating machinery until your vision clears. Inform your doctor about any pre-existing health conditions such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, kidney, or liver disease.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
