Description

Name

  • Brand Name: ROSVIN EZ 10MG TAB
  • Common Names: Rosuvastatin and Ezetimibe tablets

Composition ROSVIN EZ 10MG TAB contains a combination of two active ingredients:

  • Rosuvastatin 10 mg
  • Ezetimibe 10 mg

Uses ROSVIN EZ 10MG TAB is primarily prescribed for the treatment of high cholesterol levels (hyperlipidemia). It works by lowering "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides, while increasing "good" cholesterol (HDL). This medication is also used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, including the prevention of heart attack and stroke. It can be used alone or with other medicines for conditions like homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH).

Dosage and Administration The typical dosage is one tablet containing 10 mg rosuvastatin and 10 mg ezetimibe once daily. It can be taken with or without food. Tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed, broken, chewed, or dissolved. For best results, it is recommended to take the medicine at the same time each day.

Side Effects

  • Common Side Effects: Nausea, muscle pain, weakness, joint pain, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, upper respiratory tract infection, common cold, and dizziness. These usually do not require medical attention and often resolve over time.
  • Serious Side Effects (seek immediate medical attention if experienced): Unexplained muscle pain, severe tiredness, yellowing of the skin or eyes (signs of liver problems), dark urine, skin rashes or blisters, or swelling in the face or throat (possible severe allergic reaction).

Precautions

  • Contraindications: Do not take ROSVIN EZ 10MG TAB if you are allergic to rosuvastatin or ezetimibe, have active liver disease, unexplained high liver enzymes, severe kidney problems, muscle disorders, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are taking ciclosporin, fibrates, or certain hepatitis C medications (sofosbuvir/velpatasvir/voxilaprevir).
  • Warnings: Inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems, diabetes, thyroid problems (especially inadequately treated hypothyroidism), severe lung disease, or a history of stroke with bleeding in the brain.
  • Alcohol: Excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided as it can worsen liver function and increase the risk of side effects.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: This medicine is considered unsafe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Women of childbearing age should use effective contraceptive methods during treatment.
  • Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are taking, especially blood thinners, immune-suppressing medicines, hormone replacement therapy, oral contraceptives, other cholesterol-lowering medicines, and antiviral medications. Certain medicines like darolutamide, regorafenib, and fusidic acid can increase the risk of muscle injury when taken with this medication.
  • Monitoring: Regular liver enzyme tests are recommended during treatment. Blood sugar levels may also need monitoring as statins can slightly increase blood sugar.

Storage Store ROSVIN EZ 10MG TAB in a cool and dry place, protected from moisture, sunlight, and heat. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. It is generally recommended to store below 30°C.

Frequently asked questions

What is Rosvin EZ 10mg Tablet used for?

Rosvin EZ 10mg Tablet is primarily used to treat high cholesterol levels (hyperlipidemia). It helps lower "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, while also increasing "good" cholesterol (HDL) levels. By managing cholesterol, it significantly reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks and strokes.

How does Rosvin EZ 10mg Tablet work?

Rosvin EZ 10mg Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Rosuvastatin and Ezetimibe. Rosuvastatin belongs to a class of drugs called statins. It works by blocking liver enzymes, which reduces the liver's production of cholesterol and increases its ability to remove cholesterol already in the blood. Ezetimibe works by inhibiting the absorption of cholesterol from the intestines. Together, these actions lead to a more effective reduction in cholesterol levels.

What is the usual dosage for Rosvin EZ 10mg Tablet?

The recommended starting dose for the combination of Rosuvastatin and Ezetimibe is typically 5mg + 10mg or 10mg + 10mg once per day. Your doctor will individualize the therapy based on your target lipid levels and response. The dose is usually not more than 40 mg rosuvastatin and 10 mg ezetimibe per day. It can be taken at any time of the day, with or without food, but should be taken consistently at the same time daily. The tablet should be swallowed whole with water and not crushed, broken, or chewed.

What are the possible side effects of Rosvin EZ 10mg Tablet?

Common side effects may include nausea, muscle pain, weakness, joint pain, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, upper respiratory tract infection, and the common cold. Most of these effects are usually mild and resolve over time.

Serious side effects, though rare, can include unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness (especially if accompanied by fever), which could indicate a serious muscle problem like rhabdomyolysis. Other serious side effects to watch for include yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, and severe tiredness, which may be signs of liver problems. If you experience any persistent or severe side effects, seek immediate medical attention.

Is Rosvin EZ 10mg Tablet safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

No, Rosvin EZ 10mg Tablet is considered unsafe during pregnancy and is highly discouraged. Rosuvastatin, one of the components, may harm an unborn baby. Women of childbearing age should use effective contraception while taking this medicine.

Breastfeeding is also not recommended while using Rosvin EZ 10mg Tablet, as the drug may pass into breast milk and potentially harm the infant.

Can Rosvin EZ 10mg Tablet be taken with other medications?

Yes, Rosvin EZ 10mg Tablet can interact with various medications. It's crucial to inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are currently taking to avoid possible interactions. Specific drugs that may interact include blood thinners, medicines that suppress immune function (like ciclosporin), certain antiviral medicines (especially those for HIV and Hepatitis C), and other cholesterol-lowering medicines (like gemfibrozil or fenofibrates). Antacids containing aluminum and magnesium should be taken at least 2 hours after Rosvin EZ.

What precautions should be taken while taking Rosvin EZ 10mg Tablet?

Before taking Rosvin EZ 10mg Tablet, inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems, diabetes, severe lung disease, thyroid gland problems, or a history of muscle disorders. Regular liver enzyme tests may be recommended. Alcohol consumption should be limited or avoided, as it can increase the risk of liver problems. Patients with Asian descent may require a lower dose. It's also important to follow a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet and engage in regular exercise as advised by your doctor.

What happens if a dose of Rosvin EZ 10mg Tablet is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one, and do not take two doses within 12 hours of each other.

How should Rosvin EZ 10mg Tablet be stored?

Rosvin EZ 10mg Tablet should be stored in a cool and dry place, protected from sunlight and moisture, and at room temperature (typically below 30°C). Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
