Description
UNWANTED 21 DAYS TABLET
UNWANTED 21 DAYS TABLET, manufactured by Mankind Pharma Ltd., is an oral hormonal contraceptive primarily used for preventing pregnancy.
Composition Each tablet contains a combination of two synthetic female sex hormones:
- Ethinyloestradiol (0.03mg)
- Levonorgestrel (0.15mg)
Uses UNWANTED 21 DAYS TABLET is prescribed for:
- Contraception: Preventing unwanted pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to impede sperm, and altering the uterine lining to prevent implantation.
- Menstrual Regulation: Treating dysmenorrhea (irregular and painful periods) and menorrhagia (heavy menstrual bleeding).
- Acne: May also be used in the treatment of acne.
Dosage and Administration Typically, one tablet is taken daily for 21 consecutive days, starting on the first day of the menstrual cycle. This is followed by a 7-day tablet-free interval before starting a new pack. The tablet should be swallowed whole with water at the same time each day for maximum effectiveness. If a dose is missed by more than 12 hours, use a non-hormonal method of contraception (like a condom) for at least the next 2 days. If vomiting occurs within 4 hours of taking a dose, another tablet should be taken.

- Nausea, vomiting
- Headache, dizziness

Serious, though less common, side effects include symptoms of blood clots (e.g., unexplained swelling and pain in limbs, shortness of breath, chest pain, changes in vision).
Precautions UNWANTED 21 DAYS TABLET should not be used by pregnant or breastfeeding women. It is also not recommended for women over 35 who smoke, obese individuals, or those with a history of blood clots. Frequently asked questions
What is UNWANTED 21 DAYS TABLET used for?
UNWANTED 21 DAYS TABLET is a hormonal contraceptive medication primarily used to prevent unwanted pregnancy. It can also be used to treat irregular and painful menstrual periods (dysmenorrhea) and menorrhagia (heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding).
How does UNWANTED 21 DAYS TABLET work?
This medicine contains two female sex hormones, Ethinyloestradiol (estrogen) and Levonorgestrel (progestin). It works in several ways to prevent pregnancy:
- It prevents the release of an egg from the ovaries (ovulation).
- It thickens the fluid in the cervix, making it difficult for sperm to enter the womb.
- It changes the lining of the uterus, making it unsuitable for the development of a pregnancy.
What is the usual dosage of UNWANTED 21 DAYS TABLET?
The usual dosage is one tablet daily, taken at the same time each day for 21 consecutive days. This is followed by a 7-day break before starting a new pack on the 8th day. It is generally recommended to start the first tablet on the first day of your menstrual cycle.
What are the possible side effects of UNWANTED 21 DAYS TABLET?
Common side effects may include nausea, headache, breast pain or tenderness, stomach pain, weight gain, and mood swings. Other possible side effects include irregular vaginal bleeding (spotting or bleeding between periods), dizziness, and changes in menstrual bleeding patterns. Most side effects are usually mild and resolve over time, but if they persist or worsen, you should consult your doctor.
Is UNWANTED 21 DAYS TABLET safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
UNWANTED 21 DAYS TABLET is generally considered unsafe for use during pregnancy and is not recommended if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is also generally considered unsafe during breastfeeding as it may pass into breast milk and could potentially harm the baby and affect milk production. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
Can UNWANTED 21 DAYS TABLET be taken with other medications?
UNWANTED 21 DAYS TABLET can interact with certain medications, potentially reducing its effectiveness or causing adverse effects. These include medicines used to treat fits (e.g., Phenytoin, Carbamazepine), HIV infection (e.g., Nevirapine, Ritonavir), and some anti-infectives (e.g., Penicillin, Griseofulvin). Always inform your doctor about all other medicines, herbs, and supplements you are taking before starting UNWANTED 21 DAYS TABLET.
What precautions should be taken when using UNWANTED 21 DAYS TABLET?
It is crucial to inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially if you have a history of heart problems, hypertension, obesity, cancer (breast, uterus, or vagina), diabetes, liver or kidney problems, or abnormal uterine bleeding. Smoking, especially in women over 35, may increase the risk of cardiovascular events while using this medicine. It does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Avoid alcohol consumption as it may lead to unpleasant side effects.
What happens if a dose of UNWANTED 21 DAYS TABLET is missed?
If you miss one tablet, take it as soon as you remember, even if it means taking two tablets on the same day, then continue with your usual dosing schedule. If you are more than 12 hours late in taking a dose, or if you miss two or more doses, you may not be fully protected against pregnancy. In such cases, take the missed tablet as soon as you remember and use a non-hormonal method of contraception (like condoms) for at least the next 7 days. Frequent missed doses can lead to unexpected vaginal bleeding or spotting.
How should UNWANTED 21 DAYS TABLET be stored?
