Frequently asked questions
What is Momoz Cream used for?
Momoz Cream, which contains mometasone furoate, is a potent topical corticosteroid primarily used to relieve the redness, itching, swelling, and discomfort associated with various inflammatory skin conditions. These conditions often include eczema (atopic dermatitis) and psoriasis. It is also used to manage scalp psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis.
How does Momoz Cream work?
Momoz Cream works by reducing inflammation in the skin. Mometasone furoate, its active ingredient, is a corticosteroid that blocks the production of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause allergic reactions or irritation, leading to red, swollen, and itchy skin. It also helps to slow down the rapid production of new skin cells, which can be beneficial in conditions like psoriasis.
What is the usual dosage of Momoz Cream?
For adults and children 2 years of age and older, a thin film of Momoz Cream should be applied gently to the affected skin areas once daily. The typical duration of use is generally 1 to 2 weeks, or as advised by your doctor. It's important to use only a small amount, usually enough to cover an area twice the size of an adult hand, and to avoid applying more often than prescribed.
What are the possible side effects of Momoz Cream?
Common side effects that may occur at the application site include burning, itching, or stinging sensations, which are usually mild and temporary. With prolonged or excessive use, more serious side effects can occur, such as thinning of the skin (atrophy), stretch marks, changes in skin color (lightening or darkening), inflammation of hair follicles, and allergic skin reactions. If applied near the eyes, there is a rare but increased risk of cataracts and glaucoma.
Is Momoz Cream safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Pregnancy: There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Therefore, Momoz Cream should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus, and only if clearly necessary. Breastfeeding: It is not known how much mometasone furoate passes into breast milk. While it's unlikely to cause significant harm to the baby, it is generally recommended to use Momoz Cream with caution during breastfeeding, applying it to the smallest possible areas and avoiding long periods of use. If treating the breasts, wash off any cream before feeding your baby.
Can Momoz Cream be taken with other medications?
No specific drug-drug interaction studies have been conducted for topical mometasone furoate cream. However, it is important to inform your doctor or pharmacist about all other medications, supplements (including herbal remedies and vitamins), and corticosteroid-containing products (like other creams, asthma inhalers, or oral steroids) you are currently using, as systemic absorption of mometasone can occur, especially with prolonged use or over large areas. Some systemic medications, like those for HIV (e.g., ritonavir, cobicistat) or fungal infections (e.g., itraconazole), and even grapefruit, might potentially increase the systemic exposure to mometasone.
What precautions should be taken while using Momoz Cream?
Avoid using Momoz Cream on your face for more than 5 days, or on the groin, armpits, or diaper area unless specifically directed by your doctor. Do not get the cream into your eyes; if contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Do not apply to broken skin, open wounds, or areas with skin infections unless the infection is being treated simultaneously with an appropriate agent. Avoid using occlusive dressings (bandages or wraps) over treated areas unless advised by your doctor, as this can increase absorption and the risk of side effects. It is not recommended for children under 2 years of age, and use in children over 2 should be limited in duration (e.g., no more than 5 days on any part of the body without close supervision) and to the smallest amount compatible with an effective treatment regimen.
What happens if a dose of Momoz Cream is missed?
If you miss a dose of Momoz Cream, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply a double amount to make up for a missed dose.
How should Momoz Cream be stored?
Momoz Cream should be stored in a closed container at room temperature, typically between 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). Avoid excessive heat, moisture, and direct light, and do not freeze the cream. Keep Momoz Cream and all medicines out of the reach of children. Discard any remaining cream in an opened tube after 12 weeks.
