RABICER DSR Capsule

RABICER DSR is a combination medication manufactured by BIOCHEM PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRIES LTD..

  • Composition: Each RABICER DSR capsule contains Domperidone (30mg) and Rabeprazole (20mg).

    • Domperidone: A prokinetic agent that increases the movement of the stomach and intestines, facilitating the easy passage of food through the digestive tract. It also blocks the vomiting-inducing center in the brain, helping to control nausea and vomiting.
    • Rabeprazole: A proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces the amount of acid produced in the stomach by blocking the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme (gastric proton pump) responsible for gastric acid secretion.
  • Uses: RABICER DSR is primarily used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), also known as acid reflux, by relieving symptoms such as heartburn, stomach pain, indigestion, and nausea. It is also prescribed for:

    • Peptic ulcer disease (stomach and duodenal ulcers).
    • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (a condition with overproduction of acid due to a pancreatic tumor).
    • Healing erosive esophagitis (inflammation of the food pipe lining).
    • Managing gastritis and dyspepsia.
  • Dosage and Administration:

    • RABICER DSR capsule should be taken as advised by a physician.
    • It is typically taken 30 minutes to one hour before food, preferably before the first meal of the day, on an empty stomach.
    • Swallow the capsule whole with water; do not chew, crush, or break it.
    • The dosage and duration will be determined by the doctor based on the patient's medical condition and response to treatment. It is recommended not to exceed the prescribed dose.
  • Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

    • Headache.
    • Diarrhea.
    • Nausea and Vomiting.
    • Abdominal pain.
    • Dizziness.
    • Flatulence (gas).
    • Dryness in the mouth.
    • Joint pain (arthralgia).
    • Weakness.

Serious side effects, though rare, can include an increased risk of irregular heartbeat (arrhythmias), especially in individuals over 60 years of age. Prolonged intake may also lead to deficiencies in Vitamin B12 and magnesium, and in some cases, lupus erythematosus.

  • Precautions:

    • Inform your doctor if you are allergic to rabeprazole, domperidone, or any other ingredients in the capsule.
    • Avoid if you have a history of gastric cancer, severe liver disease, low magnesium levels, or low vitamin B12 levels.
    • Use with caution in patients with kidney disease, heart problems, or a history of bone fractures.
    • Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women without consulting a doctor.
    • Inform your doctor about all other medicines, supplements, and herbal products you are taking to prevent potential drug interactions (e.g., blood thinners, antifungals, anti-HIV drugs, iron supplements, certain heart medicines, antidepressants).
    • Avoid alcohol and smoking, as they can worsen acidity and hinder treatment.
    • This medicine may cause dizziness or drowsiness; avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.
    • Not generally recommended for children below 5 years of age, and some sources suggest not for those under 16 or 18 years.
  • Storage:

    • Store in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight.
    • Keep the medicine in its original container, tightly closed.
    • Recommended storage temperature is typically between 10°C to 25°C or below 30°C.

Frequently asked questions

RABICER DSR is a medication manufactured by BIOCHEM PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRIES LTD. It is a combination medicine containing Rabeprazole (20mg) and Domperidone (30mg).

Here are some frequently asked questions about RABICER DSR:

What is RABICER DSR used for?

RABICER DSR is primarily used to treat Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), commonly known as acid reflux. It helps alleviate symptoms such as heartburn, stomach pain, indigestion, and irritation caused by excessive stomach acid. It is also used to manage conditions like peptic ulcers (stomach ulcers) and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, which involves the overproduction of stomach acid due to a pancreatic tumor.

How does RABICER DSR work?

RABICER DSR contains two active ingredients: Rabeprazole and Domperidone.

  • Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by blocking an enzyme (H+/K+ ATPase, also known as the gastric proton pump) in the stomach wall responsible for producing acid. This reduces the amount of acid in the stomach.
  • Domperidone is a prokinetic agent and a dopamine antagonist. It works by increasing the movement of the stomach and intestines, helping food move more easily through the digestive system and reducing the backward flow of acid. It also blocks the vomiting-inducing center in the brain, which helps to alleviate nausea and vomiting.

What is the usual dosage of RABICER DSR?

The usual dosage is typically one capsule daily, or as directed by a healthcare professional. It is generally recommended to take RABICER DSR on an empty stomach, preferably before the first meal of the day, with a glass of water. The capsule should be swallowed whole and not chewed, crushed, or broken. The specific dosage and duration of treatment will be determined by your doctor based on your medical condition and response to the medication.

What are the possible side effects of RABICER DSR?

Common side effects of RABICER DSR may include diarrhea, stomach pain, dry mouth, headache, flatulence (gas), weakness, nausea, dizziness, and cough. These side effects are usually temporary and tend to resolve over time. Less common side effects can include fundic gland polyps, back pain, rash, brittle bones, low vitamin B-12 levels, and sleeplessness. If any side effects persist or worsen, it is important to consult your doctor. RABICER DSR may also cause dizziness and drowsiness, so it's advisable to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you understand how the medication affects you.

Is RABICER DSR safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

RABICER DSR may be unsafe during pregnancy, with limited human studies suggesting potential harm to the baby. Animal studies also indicate risks. It is generally recommended to avoid this medicine during pregnancy.

Regarding breastfeeding, RABICER DSR may pass into breast milk and potentially harm the baby. Domperidone, one of its components, is known to pass into breast milk, and the risks are not fully known. Therefore, it is generally advised to consult your doctor if you are breastfeeding, as they may suggest an alternative or recommend monitoring the baby closely.

Can RABICER DSR be taken with other medications?

RABICER DSR can interact with several medications. It should not be taken with rilpivirine, and caution is advised with antibiotics like clarithromycin and erythromycin, antifungals such as ketoconazole and itraconazole, and antivirals like atazanavir and nelfinavir. It may also interact with blood thinners (e.g., warfarin), iron supplements, ampicillin, and methotrexate. Always inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, and herbal products you are currently taking to prevent potential interactions.

What precautions should be taken?

Before taking RABICER DSR, inform your doctor if you have any allergies to the components or proton pump inhibitors, gastric cancer, liver disease (it is not recommended for moderate to severe liver disease), kidney disease, low magnesium or vitamin B12 levels, or heart problems such as congestive heart failure or heart rhythm disorders.

Prolonged use of RABICER DSR can lead to deficiencies in Vitamin B-12 and magnesium, and may increase the risk of bone fractures. It can also mask symptoms of gastric cancer, so report any severe stomach pain or gastric bleeding to your doctor. Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it can worsen acidity and drowsiness. RABICER DSR is generally not recommended for children below 12 or 16 years of age.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose of RABICER DSR, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should RABICER DSR be stored?

RABICER DSR should be stored at room temperature, below 25°C or 30°C, protected from moisture and light. Keep the medicine in its original container, tightly closed, and out of the reach of children.
