Uses Britzilam SR 200mg Tablet is an anti-epileptic medication indicated as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial-onset seizures in patients 16 years of age and older with epilepsy. It can be used alone or in combination with other anti-epileptic drugs to control various types of seizures, including myoclonic, partial-onset, and primary generalized tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures. It works by attaching to specific sites (SV2A) on nerve cells to suppress abnormal electrical activity in the brain, thereby preventing the spread of electrical signals that cause seizures.
Dosage and Administration Britzilam SR 200mg Tablet is for oral use. It should be swallowed whole with liquid and must not be chewed, crushed, or broken. It can be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day for consistent levels in the body. The recommended starting dose for adults is typically 50 mg/day or 100 mg/day, administered in two equally divided doses (morning and evening). The dose may be adjusted based on individual patient response and tolerability, up to a maximum of 200 mg/day, which is then often recommended as a once-daily dose for those requiring 200 mg/day. It is typically prescribed for long-term use.

Frequently asked questions
Here are frequently asked questions about BRITZILAM SR 200MG TAB by TORRENT PHARMACEUTICALS LTD, along with concise answers:
What is BRITZILAM SR 200MG TAB used for?
BRITZILAM SR 200MG TAB, containing Brivaracetam, is an anti-epileptic medication primarily used as an add-on therapy for treating partial-onset seizures in patients 16 years of age and older with epilepsy. It helps to control various types of seizures by calming excessive electrical activity in the brain.
How does BRITZILAM SR 200MG TAB work?
This medicine works by binding to a specific protein called synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2A (SV2A) on the surface of nerve cells in the brain. This action helps to regulate the release of neurotransmitters, stabilizing abnormal electrical activity in the brain and thereby reducing the frequency and intensity of seizures.
What is the usual dosage for BRITZILAM SR 200MG TAB?
For adults, the recommended starting dose is typically 50 mg/day or 100 mg/day, usually taken in two equally divided doses (morning and evening). Your doctor may adjust the dose based on your response and tolerability, within a range of 50 mg/day to 200 mg/day. BRITZILAM SR 200 mg tablets are often recommended once daily for those requiring a 200 mg/day dose. The tablets should be swallowed whole with liquid and can be taken with or without food. Do not chew, crush, or break the tablets.
What are the possible side effects of BRITZILAM SR 200MG TAB?

Other reported side effects may include nausea, vomiting, headache, and changes in mood or behavior such as agitation, aggression, or irritability. In some cases, more serious side effects like suicidal thoughts or behavioral changes have been reported. It is important to contact your doctor immediately if you experience any significant mood changes or thoughts of self-harm.
Is BRITZILAM SR 200MG TAB safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

It is important to inform your doctor about all other medications, supplements, and herbal remedies you are currently taking. BRITZILAM SR may interact with certain drugs. For instance, Rifampicin and St. John's Wort may require dose adjustments of Brivaracetam. No added therapeutic benefit was observed when Brivaracetam was co-administered with Levetiracetam.

- If you have liver problems, your doctor may need to adjust your dose.
- Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how the medicine affects you, as it can cause sleepiness, dizziness, or affect your balance and coordination.
- Alcohol should be avoided as it may intensify side effects like dizziness and drowsiness.
- If you have kidney problems, inform your doctor, as dose adjustments might be necessary. It is not recommended for patients with end-stage renal disease undergoing dialysis due to a lack of data.
- Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew, crush, or break it.
