Frequently asked questions
Here are frequently asked questions regarding TEXAKIND INJ 5ML:
What is TEXAKIND INJ 5ML used for?
TEXAKIND INJ 5ML is an anti-fibrinolytic medication primarily used to manage and prevent abnormal or excessive bleeding. It is prescribed for conditions such as heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia), nosebleeds (epistaxis), and bleeding that occurs during or after various surgeries (including cervical, prostate, bladder, dental extractions in hemophiliacs, gynaecological, abdominal, and heart surgeries). It can also be used for traumatic hyphaema (bleeding inside the eye), postpartum hemorrhage, gastrointestinal bleeding, and in cases of hereditary angioneurotic edema (HANO).
How does TEXAKIND INJ 5ML work?
This medicine contains tranexamic acid, which belongs to a class of drugs called anti-fibrinolytics. It works by enhancing the body's natural blood clotting system. Tranexamic acid prevents the breakdown of blood clots by inhibiting the action of plasmin, an enzyme responsible for dissolving fibrin clots. By stabilizing these clots, it helps to reduce and stop excessive bleeding.
How is TEXAKIND INJ 5ML usually administered?
TEXAKIND INJ 5ML is administered intravenously (into a vein) by a healthcare professional. It should not be self-administered. The injection is typically given slowly, at a rate not exceeding 1ml per minute, as rapid administration can lead to low blood pressure. The doctor will determine the correct dose, frequency, and duration of treatment based on your age, body weight, and specific medical condition.
What are the possible side effects of TEXAKIND INJ 5ML?
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, itchy skin, and pain at the injection site. Other reported side effects may include headache, back pain, muscle pain, dizziness, low blood pressure (hypotension), abdominal pain, joint pain, nasal congestion, and unusual tiredness.
Serious side effects, though rare, can occur. You should consult your doctor immediately if you experience vision problems (such as blurring or loss of color vision), signs of a severe allergic reaction (skin rashes, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, mouth, lips, or eyelids), symptoms of a blood clot (swelling or pain in the legs or chest, headache, weakness on one side of the body), or seizures.
Is TEXAKIND INJ 5ML safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Pregnancy: TEXAKIND INJ 5ML is generally not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy. It should be used with caution in pregnant women only if clearly advised by a doctor who has assessed the benefits versus the potential risks. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception while on this medication.
Breastfeeding: TEXAKIND INJ 5ML is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it passes into breast milk. If a breastfeeding mother requires tranexamic acid, close monitoring and medical supervision of the breastfed infant are advised.
Can TEXAKIND INJ 5ML be taken with other medications?
TEXAKIND INJ 5ML can interact with several other medications.
- Hormonal contraceptives (e.g., birth control pills, patches, vaginal rings containing estrogen or progestin) may increase the risk of blood clots when taken with TEXAKIND INJ 5ML.
- Prothrombotic agents (medicines that promote blood clotting, such as Factor IX complex concentrates or aprotinin) can elevate the risk of thrombosis (blood clots).
- Fibrinolytic or thrombolytic agents (medicines that dissolve blood clots, e.g., streptokinase, reteplase) may have their effects reduced by TEXAKIND INJ 5ML.
- Anticoagulant drugs (blood thinners like warfarin or heparin) may have altered effects or an increased risk of bleeding.
- NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen) may also increase the risk of bleeding.
- Other drugs like chlorpromazine (an antipsychotic) and tretinoin (used for acne or blood cancer) may also interact.
Always inform your doctor about all medications, herbal preparations, and supplements you are taking to avoid potential interactions.
What precautions should be taken while using TEXAKIND INJ 5ML?
Inform your doctor if you have a history of kidney disease (especially severe impairment), blood clotting disorders (such as thrombosis or disseminated intravascular coagulation), a history of seizures or convulsions, or if you notice blood in your urine (other than during menstruation). Caution is advised if you have liver disease or if you have undergone cardiac surgery. You should also inform your doctor if you have a known defective color vision, as this medicine can affect vision with long-term use, and regular eye tests may be recommended. Avoid consuming alcohol as it may cause excessive drowsiness. TEXAKIND INJ 5ML can cause dizziness or vision changes, so exercise caution when driving or operating machinery.
What happens if a dose of TEXAKIND INJ 5ML is missed?
Since TEXAKIND INJ 5ML is administered by a healthcare professional in a clinical setting, it is unlikely that a dose will be missed. However, if you believe a scheduled dose has been missed, you should inform your doctor or nurse immediately for further instructions.
How should TEXAKIND INJ 5ML be stored?
TEXAKIND INJ 5ML should be stored in a cool and dry place, protected from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat, ideally between 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC.
