### CRISANTA TABLETS by CIPLA HEALTH LIMITED

**Name**: Crisanta Tablets (Commonly referred to as Crisanta)

**Composition**:
Each film-coated tablet contains:
*   Drospirenone: 3 mg
*   Ethinylestradiol: 0.03 mg

**Uses**:
Crisanta Tablets are a combined oral contraceptive primarily used to prevent pregnancy. Beyond contraception, it is also prescribed for:
* Treatment of moderate acne vulgaris in women aged 14 and older who desire oral contraception.
* Management of symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
* Regulation of irregular menstrual cycles, making periods more predictable.
* Management of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) symptoms, such as irregular periods, acne, and excessive hair growth.
* Reduction of menstrual pain and cramps.

**Dosage and Administration**:
Crisanta Tablets are typically taken once daily, at the same time each day, as advised by a doctor, to ensure maximum effectiveness. The usual regimen involves:
* Taking one active tablet daily for 21 consecutive days.
* This is followed by a 7-day pill-free interval, during which withdrawal bleeding (similar to a menstrual period) usually occurs.
* Each subsequent course is started on the day after the 7 pill-free days.
If starting for the first time, it is recommended to begin on the first day of your menstrual cycle for immediate contraceptive protection. If started at any other time, a non-hormonal back-up contraceptive method should be used for the first 7 days. If a tablet is missed by less than 12 hours, contraceptive protection is not reduced; take the tablet as soon as remembered and continue with the usual schedule. If more than 12 hours late, contraceptive protection may be reduced, and specific guidance on missed pills should be followed, often including taking the missed pill and using a back-up method for 7 days.

**Side Effects**:
Common side effects include:
*   Headache
*   Nausea, vomiting
*   Stomach pain, abdominal pain
*   Breast pain, breast tenderness
*   Weight gain or changes
* Irregular uterine bleeding, spotting between periods, or missed periods
*   Mood changes, moodiness, depression
*   Vaginal discharge or infections

Serious, though rare, side effects can include:
* Harmful blood clots in a vein or artery (e.g., in a leg, lung, heart attack, stroke, mini-stroke)
* Unexplained swelling and pain in limbs, shortness of breath, chest pain, severe headache, or changes in vision, which could be symptoms of a blood clot
* Jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes)
*   Severe depression
* Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing)

**Precautions**:
* **Smoking**: Cigarette smoking significantly increases the risk of serious cardiovascular events (such as blood clots, heart attack, and stroke) from combination oral contraceptive use, especially in women over 35 years of age.
* **Medical Conditions**: Crisanta Tablets should be avoided in individuals with a history of blood clots, stroke, heart attack, uncontrolled high blood pressure, diabetes, certain cancers (liver, breast, uterus/cervix), liver or kidney problems, migraines with aura, or undiagnosed vaginal bleeding.
* **Pregnancy**: This medicine is highly unsafe and must not be used during pregnancy. Discontinue use and consult a healthcare provider if pregnancy occurs.
* **Breastfeeding**: It is generally considered unsafe during breastfeeding as it may pass into breast milk and potentially affect the baby and milk production. Consult a doctor.
* **Drug Interactions**: Inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbals you are taking. Crisanta Tablets may interact with anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin), anti-seizure medications (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine), and certain antibiotics (e.g., amoxicillin, doxycycline), potentially reducing its effectiveness or increasing side effects.
* **Allergies**: Do not take if allergic to Drospirenone, Ethinylestradiol, or any components of the tablet.
* **Other Warnings**: Use with caution in women with cardiovascular disease risk factors. It may cause depression and has been associated with partial or complete loss of vision in rare cases.

**Storage**:
Store Crisanta Tablets at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. Protect from moisture. Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children and away from pets. Do not use after the expiry date.
Frequently asked questions

CRISANTA TABLETS by CIPLA HEALTH LIMITED FAQs

What are CRISANTA TABLETS used for?

CRISANTA TABLETS are a combined oral contraceptive pill primarily used to prevent pregnancy. Additionally, they are used to treat moderate acne vulgaris in women aged 14 and above who desire oral contraception and to manage symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

How do CRISANTA TABLETS work?

CRISANTA TABLETS contain two synthetic female hormones, drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol. They work by preventing the release of an egg from the ovary (ovulation), thickening the cervical mucus to make it harder for sperm to reach the womb, and altering the lining of the uterus to prevent the attachment of a fertilized egg.

What is the usual dosage?

The usual dosage for CRISANTA TABLETS is one tablet daily for 24 consecutive days, followed by 4 pill-free days per menstrual cycle. It should be taken by mouth at the same time every day, preferably after the evening meal or at bedtime, with some liquid if needed.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects include nausea, headache, breast pain or tenderness, abdominal pain, weight changes, irregular periods, and vaginal infections. More serious, though rare, side effects can include blood clots, heart attack, or stroke, especially in women who smoke or have certain underlying risk factors.

Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

CRISANTA TABLETS are considered unsafe for use during pregnancy and should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy occurs. It is generally not recommended during breastfeeding as small amounts of the medicine may pass into breast milk and could potentially affect the child or reduce milk production.

Can it be taken with other medications?

CRISANTA TABLETS can interact with other medications, potentially reducing their effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. Medications that may decrease the effectiveness of CRISANTA TABLETS include certain anticonvulsants (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine), antibiotics (e.g., rifampin, amoxicillin, doxycycline), HIV medications, and herbal products like St. John's wort. Always inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are taking.

What precautions should be taken?

Do not use CRISANTA TABLETS if you have a history of blood clots, stroke, heart problems, uncontrolled high blood pressure, liver or kidney problems, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, or certain cancers (liver, breast, uterus/cervix). Smoking while using CRISANTA TABLETS significantly increases the risk of serious cardiovascular side effects like blood clots, heart attack, or stroke.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If one tablet is missed, take it as soon as you remember, even if it means taking two tablets on the same day, and then continue with the regular schedule. No back-up contraception is typically needed for a single missed pill. If two or more tablets are missed in a row, take the forgotten tablets as soon as remembered and use a non-hormonal method of contraception (like condoms) for at least the next 7 days to ensure protection against pregnancy.

How should it be stored?

CRISANTA TABLETS should be stored at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. They should be protected from moisture and kept out of the sight and reach of children and pets.
