MOXCENT-0.3 MG Tablet

Name: Moxcent 0.3 Tablet

Composition: Each film-coated tablet contains Moxonidine B.P. 0.3 mg.

Uses: Moxcent 0.3 Tablet is primarily used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). It works by relaxing and widening the blood vessels, which helps to lower blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps to prevent future serious health issues like stroke and heart attack.

Dosage and Administration: Moxcent 0.3 Tablet can be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day for consistent results. The tablet should be swallowed whole with sufficient liquid and not crushed or chewed. Treatment typically starts with 200 micrograms (0.2 mg) in the morning, which may be increased after three weeks to 400 micrograms (0.4 mg) once or twice daily. A maximum daily dose of 600 micrograms (0.6 mg) in divided doses should not be exceeded. For patients with moderate kidney dysfunction, the single dose should not exceed 200 micrograms, and the daily dose should not exceed 400 micrograms. Do not stop taking the medicine abruptly without consulting a doctor.

Side Effects: Common side effects include dry mouth, headache, dizziness, nausea, sleepiness, back pain, rash, insomnia (difficulty in sleeping), diarrhea, vertigo, and weakness. Most side effects are temporary and resolve over time.

Precautions:

  • Alcohol: Avoid alcohol consumption as it may increase drowsiness and dizziness.
  • Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding; consult a doctor.
  • Driving: May cause dizziness or sleepiness; avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.
  • Medical Conditions: Use with caution in patients with kidney disease, liver disease, or certain heart conditions such as heart failure, very slow heart rate (below 50 bpm), or abnormal heart rhythms.
  • Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor about other medicines, especially other blood pressure medications, tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., imipramine, amitriptyline), and sedatives or tranquilizers (e.g., alprazolam, diazepam), as interactions can occur.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep out of sight and reach of children and pets.

Frequently asked questions

Here are frequently asked questions about MOXCENT-0.3 MG (Moxonidine 0.3mg):

What is MOXCENT-0.3 MG used for?

MOXCENT-0.3 MG is primarily used to treat hypertension, also known as high blood pressure. By lowering blood pressure, it helps reduce the risk of future stroke, heart attack, and other heart-related complications by easing the workload on the heart. It may also be beneficial for patients with resistant hypertension, metabolic disorders, or obesity-related hypertension.

How does MOXCENT-0.3 MG work?

MOXCENT-0.3 MG, containing Moxonidine, is an anti-hypertensive medication that works by acting on specific imidazoline I1 receptors in the brainstem. This action reduces the activity of the sympathetic nervous system, leading to the relaxation and widening of blood vessels (vasodilation) and a decrease in heart rate, which ultimately lowers blood pressure.

What is the usual dosage for MOXCENT-0.3 MG?

The dosage of MOXCENT-0.3 MG should be strictly followed as prescribed by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food, typically at the same time each day for consistent results. The usual starting dose for adults may be 0.2 mg once daily, which your doctor might adjust up to a maximum of 0.6 mg per day, possibly divided into two doses, based on your response and tolerance.

What are the possible side effects of MOXCENT-0.3 MG?

Common side effects include dry mouth, headache, dizziness, sleepiness, nausea, diarrhea, back pain, insomnia (difficulty sleeping), fatigue, weakness, rash, itching, vomiting, and indigestion. Some individuals may experience lightheadedness, especially when standing up, which is known as orthostatic hypotension. If any side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor.

Is MOXCENT-0.3 MG safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

MOXCENT-0.3 MG is generally not recommended during pregnancy as there is limited information, but animal studies have shown potential harmful effects on the developing baby. It is also considered probably unsafe during breastfeeding, as the medication may pass into breast milk and could harm the baby. Always consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Can MOXCENT-0.3 MG be taken with other medications?

MOXCENT-0.3 MG can interact with other medications. Taking it with other antihypertensives (e.g., amlodipine, lisinopril, enalapril, ramipril, propranolol) can enhance the blood pressure-lowering effects. It is generally not recommended to take it with tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline, imipramine) as they may reduce its effectiveness and increase side effects like dizziness and drowsiness. Sedatives and tranquilizers (e.g., diazepam, alprazolam) can intensify the sedative effects of MOXCENT-0.3 MG, leading to excessive sleepiness. Always inform your doctor about all medications you are currently taking to avoid potential interactions.

What precautions should be taken while taking MOXCENT-0.3 MG?

Avoid consuming alcohol while taking MOXCENT-0.3 MG as it can increase drowsiness and dizziness. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how the medicine affects you, as it can cause sleepiness and dizziness. To prevent lightheadedness, rise slowly when standing up from a sitting or lying position. Inform your doctor if you have kidney, liver, or heart problems (such as heart failure, heart block, or a slow heart rate). It's crucial not to stop taking this medicine suddenly, as abrupt discontinuation can lead to a rapid increase in blood pressure (rebound hypertension) and withdrawal symptoms; your doctor will gradually reduce the dosage if needed. MOXCENT-0.3 MG is not recommended for children below 16 or 18 years of age.

What happens if a dose of MOXCENT-0.3 MG is missed?

If you miss a dose of MOXCENT-0.3 MG, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should MOXCENT-0.3 MG be stored?

Store MOXCENT-0.3 MG below 30°C (or between 10°C to 25°C) in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep it out of the reach and sight of children and pets.
