RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT 100 ML

RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT 100 ML, manufactured by GENO PHARMACEUTICALS PVT. LTD., is a combination medication designed to relieve cough with mucus and associated respiratory discomfort. It is also commonly known as Respira LS Syrup.

Composition

Each 5 ml of RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT contains:

  • Ambroxol Hydrochloride: 30 mg. Ambroxol acts as a mucolytic agent, thinning and loosening thick mucus (phlegm) to make it easier to cough out.
  • Guaifenesin: 50 mg. Guaifenesin is an expectorant that increases the volume and reduces the thickness of respiratory tract mucus, promoting its removal through coughing.
  • Levosalbutamol Sulphate (equivalent to Levosalbutamol): 1 mg. Levosalbutamol is a bronchodilator that relaxes the muscles of the airways, widening them and making breathing easier.

Uses

RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT is prescribed for the management of productive cough associated with various respiratory conditions. These include:

Frequently asked questions

Here are some frequently asked questions about RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT 100 ML:

What is RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT used for?

RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT is used to treat cough with mucus, chest congestion, and breathing difficulties associated with respiratory conditions such as bronchitis, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It helps relieve symptoms of productive cough and supports faster recovery from respiratory discomfort. It can also help alleviate symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, itching, and watery eyes linked to respiratory tract allergies.

How does RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT work?

RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT contains three active ingredients: Ambroxol, Levosalbutamol, and Guaifenesin. Ambroxol is a mucolytic agent that thins and loosens thick mucus (phlegm), making it easier to cough out. Guaifenesin acts as an expectorant, increasing the volume of fluid in the airways and reducing mucus stickiness, which aids in its removal through coughing. Levosalbutamol is a bronchodilator that relaxes the smooth muscles in the bronchial tubes, widening the airways and making breathing easier.

What is the usual dosage for RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT?

The dosage of RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. It is typically taken 2-3 times daily. Always use a measuring cup or spoon for accurate dosing and shake the bottle thoroughly before each use. Do not exceed the prescribed dosage without consulting your doctor.

What are the possible side effects of RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT?

Common side effects may include nausea, dryness of mouth, nose, or throat, headache, dizziness, muscle cramps or weakness, increased heart rate, vomiting, drowsiness, stomach upset, diarrhea, skin rash, tremor, and palpitations. Most of these side effects are usually mild and resolve over time. However, if they persist or worsen, it is advisable to consult your doctor.

Is RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Pregnancy: The safety of RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT in pregnant women is not fully known. It should be used with caution during pregnancy and only if the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks to the fetus, as determined by a doctor.

Breastfeeding: Limited studies are available regarding its use during breastfeeding, and it is unknown whether the components are excreted in human milk. It should be taken with care if you are breastfeeding, and a doctor's consultation is advised.

Can RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT be taken with other medications?

RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT can interact with certain medicines. Inform your doctor about all prescription, non-prescription, and herbal medicines you are currently taking.

  • Beta-blockers (e.g., atenolol, propranolol) may interact with levosalbutamol, potentially reducing its effectiveness.
  • Diuretics (e.g., furosemide, torsemide) may increase potassium levels in the body when taken with this medicine.
  • Cardiac glycosides (e.g., digoxin) might increase the risk of side effects like irregular heartbeat.
  • Simultaneous use with other respiratory disorder-related medicines like aminophylline or theophylline may increase the risk of side effects.
  • It should not be clubbed with cough suppressants.

What precautions should be taken with RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT?

  • Avoid using if you are allergic to Ambroxol, Guaifenesin, Levosalbutamol, or any other ingredients.
  • Use with caution if you have a history of heart disease, hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, hyperthyroidism, stomach ulcers, kidney disease, or liver problems.
  • Diabetic patients should be cautious as it is sugar-based and might interfere with blood sugar control.
  • Avoid alcohol while on this medication as it might increase the risk of side effects.
  • It may cause dizziness or drowsiness, so use caution when driving or operating machinery.
  • Drink plenty of fluids to help loosen mucus.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose of RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one.

How should RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT be stored?

Store RESPIRA LS EXPECTORANT at room temperature, typically below 30°C, in a clean and dry place. Keep the medicine away from direct sunlight and moisture, and ensure the bottle is tightly closed when not in use. Always keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
