Frequently asked questions
What is Onabet Cream used for?
Onabet Cream is an antifungal medicine primarily used to treat various fungal infections of the skin. These include conditions such as athlete's foot (tinea pedis), ringworm (tinea corporis), jock itch (tinea cruris), thrush (cutaneous candidiasis), and other dry, flaky skin patches caused by fungi like Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, or Epidermophyton floccosum. It also helps reduce associated symptoms like itching, redness, and irritation.
How does Onabet Cream work?
Onabet Cream contains Sertaconazole, an antifungal agent belonging to the imidazole class. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes. By disrupting ergosterol formation, Sertaconazole weakens the fungal cell structure, alters its permeability, and ultimately leads to the leakage of cellular contents, killing the fungus and preventing the spread of the infection. It also possesses anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce symptoms.
What is the usual dosage for Onabet Cream?
The usual dosage involves applying a thin layer of the cream to the affected skin area and the immediately surrounding healthy skin, twice daily. The treatment typically lasts for 4 weeks, but the exact duration and frequency should be as instructed by your doctor, based on the severity of the infection and your response to treatment.
What are the possible side effects of Onabet Cream?
Common side effects at the application site may include burning, stinging, or tingling sensations, irritation, redness, itching, dryness, flaking, or peeling of the skin. These reactions are generally mild and temporary, often resolving as your body adjusts to the medication. If these side effects persist or worsen, it is advisable to consult your doctor.
Is Onabet Cream safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Onabet Cream should be used with caution during pregnancy and only if the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks to the fetus. Similarly, for breastfeeding mothers, caution is advised as it is not known whether the drug passes into breast milk. It is strongly recommended to consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Can Onabet Cream be taken with other medications?
Since Onabet Cream is applied externally to the skin and has minimal systemic absorption, the potential for significant drug-drug interactions is relatively low. However, as a general precaution, you should always inform your doctor about all the medicines you are currently taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and herbal supplements, to avoid any potential interactions.
What precautions should be taken while using Onabet Cream?
Onabet Cream is for external use only. Avoid contact with your eyes, nose, mouth, vagina, and other mucous membranes. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Do not use the cream on broken, blistered, or severely irritated skin unless specifically advised by your doctor. Also, avoid covering the treated area with bandages or dressings unless your doctor instructs you to do so. It is crucial to use the medicine for the full prescribed duration, even if your symptoms improve sooner, to ensure complete eradication of the infection and prevent recurrence.
What happens if a dose of Onabet Cream is missed?
If you forget to apply a dose of Onabet Cream, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular application schedule. Do not apply a double dose to compensate for the missed one.
How should Onabet Cream be stored?
Onabet Cream should be stored in a cool, dry place where the temperature does not exceed 25°C. Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use to prevent contamination and protect it from direct sunlight and moisture. Ensure it is kept out of the reach and sight of children and pets.
