Name

  • Brand Name: TRD CONTIN TAB (also appears as TRD CONTIN OD 100MG TABLET or TRD CONTIN 100MG TABLET)

Composition

  • Active Ingredient: Tramadol (100mg)

Uses

TRD CONTIN TAB is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe pain. This includes persistent, chronic pain requiring continuous, around-the-clock treatment, such as:

  • Postoperative pain
  • Colic and spastic pain
  • Cancer pain
  • Joint pain (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis)
  • Neck and back pain
  • Pain associated with osteoporosis

Dosage and Administration

  • TRD CONTIN TAB should be taken as prescribed by a doctor.
  • The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water; do not chew, crush, or break it.
  • It can be taken with or without food, though taking it with food may help avoid nausea.
  • For acute pain, an initial dose of 100 mg is typically recommended, followed by 50-100 mg every 4-6 hours. For chronic pain, an initial dose of 50 mg is advised, with subsequent doses of 50-100 mg every 4-6 hours.
  • The total daily oral dosage should not exceed 400 mg.
  • For sustained-release (OD/CR) tablets, it is typically one tablet every 12 hours.
  • Dosage adjustments may be necessary for patients with liver or kidney impairment. TRD CONTIN TAB is not recommended for children below 12 years of age.

Side Effects

  • Common: Nausea, dizziness, headache, vomiting, dry mouth, drowsiness/sleepiness, constipation, sweating, and tiredness.
  • Serious (potential): Seizures, respiratory depression, extreme drowsiness, fainting, slow breathing or heart rate, and cold/clammy skin, particularly with overdose. Prolonged use carries a risk of physical and psychological dependence and abuse.

Precautions

  • Avoid alcohol consumption as it can increase the risk of side effects, including drowsiness and respiratory depression.
  • Use with caution and potentially reduced dosage when taken with other central nervous system (CNS) depressants, such as sleeping pills, tranquilizers, or other opioid pain killers.
  • Do not stop taking the medicine suddenly due to the risk of withdrawal symptoms.
  • Patients with liver or kidney disease, a history of epilepsy (fits), head trauma, or increased intracranial pressure should use this medicine with caution and under medical supervision.
  • It is generally not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
  • Avoid driving or operating machinery if experiencing dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision.
  • Inform your doctor about all other medications being taken, especially MAO inhibitors, carbamazepine, SSRIs, antidepressants, antipsychotics, ondansetron, or warfarin, due to potential drug interactions.

Storage

  • Store in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Keep out of sight and reach of children.
  • Store below 30°C in its original packaging.
Frequently asked questions

TRD CONTIN TAB by MODI MUNDIPHARMA PVT. LTD. is an extended-release tablet containing Tramadol, a centrally acting synthetic analgesic. It is used to manage moderate to severe pain.

What is TRD CONTIN TAB used for?

TRD CONTIN TAB is prescribed for the management of persistent, moderate to severe chronic pain that requires continuous, around-the-clock treatment. It is an opioid analgesic used when other pain medications have not been effective or cannot be tolerated.

How does TRD CONTIN TAB work?

TRD CONTIN TAB contains Tramadol, which works by blocking pain signals in the brain. It acts as an opioid by binding to certain opioid receptors and also inhibits the reuptake of natural neurotransmitters, norepinephrine and serotonin, thereby modifying the transmission of pain impulses in the spinal cord and brain.

What is the usual dosage for TRD CONTIN TAB?

TRD CONTIN TAB is an extended-release medication typically taken once daily, at the same time each day. It should be swallowed whole with water and should not be cut, crushed, dissolved, or chewed, as this can lead to a rapid release of the medicine and potentially dangerous overdose. Your doctor will determine the appropriate starting dose and may adjust it based on your pain relief and tolerability. The maximum dose is generally 400 mg per day, but it is important not to exceed the prescribed dose.

What are the possible side effects of TRD CONTIN TAB?

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, and sweating. More serious side effects, which require immediate medical attention, can include allergic reactions (skin rash, itching, swelling), slow or shallow breathing, seizures, confusion, hallucinations, severe stomach pain, or difficulty urinating. Prolonged use can also lead to physical dependence.

Is TRD CONTIN TAB safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

TRD CONTIN TAB is generally not recommended during pregnancy as there is limited and conflicting safety information, and it may harm an unborn baby. Prolonged use during pregnancy can lead to temporary withdrawal symptoms in the newborn.

During breastfeeding, tramadol passes into breast milk in small amounts. While some sources suggest short courses may be safe, the U.S. FDA recommends against its use due to the risk of serious problems in breastfed infants, such as unusual sleepiness, difficulty feeding, or breathing problems. It's crucial to consult your doctor before breastfeeding while taking this medication.

Can TRD CONTIN TAB be taken with other medications?

TRD CONTIN TAB can interact with many medications, potentially leading to serious side effects. It should not be taken with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) due to the risk of serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition. Concomitant use with other central nervous system (CNS) depressants, such as alcohol, benzodiazepines, other opioids, muscle relaxants, and some antihistamines, can increase the risk of severe drowsiness, breathing problems, and overdose. Caution is also advised with serotonergic drugs (e.g., SSRI antidepressants, triptans for migraines) due to the increased risk of serotonin syndrome. Always inform your doctor and pharmacist about all medications, supplements, and herbal products you are taking.

What precautions should be taken?

Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how this medication affects you, as it can cause dizziness and drowsiness. Alcohol should be avoided, as it can increase the risk of side effects, including severe drowsiness and breathing problems. Inform your doctor if you have a history of seizures, head injury, brain tumor, liver or kidney disease, or lung and breathing problems, as these conditions may increase the risks associated with TRD CONTIN TAB. This medicine has a potential for addiction and abuse, even at recommended dosages.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose of TRD CONTIN TAB, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should it be stored?

Store TRD CONTIN TAB in its original container, tightly closed, at room temperature (between 20 and 25 degrees C or 68 and 77 degrees F), away from excess heat and moisture. Keep this medicine in a secure location, out of sight and reach of children and pets, due to its opioid properties. Dispose of any unused or expired medication properly, preferably through a take-back program.
