Frequently asked questions

Here are the frequently asked questions about VERTIGON FORTE TAB by GENO PHARMACEUTICALS, along with their concise answers:

What is Vertigon Forte Tablet used for?

Vertigon Forte Tablet is primarily used to treat and prevent symptoms associated with motion sickness, such as nausea and vomiting. It is also prescribed for balance problems, including vertigo (a spinning sensation or dizziness), Meniere's disease (which can cause vertigo, ringing in the ears, and hearing loss), and tinnitus (ringing or buzzing sounds in the ears).

How does Vertigon Forte Tablet work?

Vertigon Forte Tablet contains Cinnarizine, an antihistamine medication. It works by preventing the constriction of blood vessels in the inner ear, thereby improving circulation in that area. Additionally, Cinnarizine acts as a calcium channel antagonist, which helps relax blood vessels, and it reduces the overactivity of the vestibular system in the body, which is responsible for balance and spatial orientation. This combined action helps to alleviate dizziness and spinning sensations.

What is the usual dosage of Vertigon Forte Tablet?

The dosage of Vertigon Forte Tablet should always be as prescribed by your doctor.

  • For motion sickness (adults, elderly, and children over 12 years): Typically, two tablets can be taken two hours before travel. If necessary, one tablet can be taken every eight hours during the journey.
  • For vertigo and vestibular disorders (adults): A common dosage is 30 mg three times daily or 75 mg once or twice daily.
  • It is generally recommended to take Vertigon Forte Tablet after a meal to help avoid stomach upset. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not chew, crush, or break it. For children aged 5 years and above, the dosage will be decided by a child specialist.

What are the possible side effects of Vertigon Forte Tablet?

Common side effects of Vertigon Forte Tablet include drowsiness or sleepiness, nausea, indigestion, dry mouth, headaches, sweating, fatigue, and weight gain. Most of these side effects are usually temporary and resolve over time. However, if any side effects persist or worsen, it is advisable to consult your doctor. More severe but less common side effects can include unusual muscle movements, yellowing of the skin or eyes, depressed mood, muscle stiffness, or irregular heartbeat.

Is Vertigon Forte Tablet safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Vertigon Forte Tablet is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy, as it is classified as a pregnancy category C drug, and its safety for the unborn baby has not been definitively established. Similarly, it is not recommended for breastfeeding women, as the safety of the medication during breastfeeding has not been fully established. Always consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding before taking this medication.

Can Vertigon Forte Tablet be taken with other medications?

It is crucial to inform your doctor about all other prescription and over-the-counter medications, as well as herbal products, you are currently taking or have recently taken. Vertigon Forte Tablet can interact with certain medications. For instance, consuming alcohol while taking this medicine is not recommended as it can significantly increase drowsiness. Caution should also be exercised with other central nervous system (CNS) depressants (like certain sedatives or strong pain killers) and anticholinergic medications, as these combinations can heighten side effects such as drowsiness and dry mouth.

What precautions should be taken while using Vertigon Forte Tablet?

  • Driving and Operating Machinery: Since Vertigon Forte Tablet can cause drowsiness and dizziness, you should avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • Pre-existing Conditions: Inform your doctor if you have a history of peptic ulcers, asthma, low blood pressure, liver disease, kidney disease, epilepsy, glaucoma, problems emptying the urinary bladder, or porphyria (a blood disorder).
  • Parkinson's Disease: Vertigon Forte Tablet should be avoided in patients with Parkinson's disease, as it can worsen their condition.
  • Children: This medicine is not recommended for children below 5 years of age.
  • Discontinuation: Do not stop taking Vertigon Forte Tablet suddenly without first consulting your doctor.
  • Symptoms to watch for: If your skin becomes yellow and your urine becomes pale yellow, consult your doctor immediately.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose of Vertigon Forte Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should Vertigon Forte Tablet be stored?
