Dosage and Administration: This medicine is for external use only. Apply a thin layer of the gel to the affected area and gently rub it into the skin until absorbed. The usual frequency of application is typically two to three times daily, or as advised by your doctor. Wash your hands thoroughly after each application, unless your hands are the treated area. Avoid applying to broken or irritated skin, open wounds, eyes, nose, or mouth. Do not cover the treated area with bandages or dressings unless instructed by a healthcare provider.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

  • Skin irritation, itching, redness, or burning sensation at the application site
  • Dry or flaky skin

Serious side effects are rare but can include allergic reactions (e.g., rash, hives), increased sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity), or blistering of the skin.

Precautions:

  • Do not use if you have asthma, urticaria, acute rhinitis, or allergy to any of the ingredients.

  • Not recommended for children below 14 years of age as safety and effectiveness have not been established.
  • Exercise caution in elderly patients.
  • Avoid or limit exposure to natural or artificial sunlight after application, as it may cause ultraviolet light-induced skin tumors.
  • Do not use other painkillers (NSAIDs) for pain relief along with Volitra Plus Gel unless prescribed by a doctor.
  • Inform your doctor if you have liver problems, kidney problems, heart problems, blood disorders, or anemia.
  • If stomach pain or signs of bleeding in the intestine or stomach (like blood in stools) occur, discontinue use and consult a doctor immediately.

Frequently asked questions

What is Volitra Plus Gel used for?

Volitra Plus Gel is used for the local symptomatic relief of pain and inflammation. It is effective for conditions such as musculoskeletal disorders, sprains, strains, knee pain, arthritis, low back pain, muscle pain, joint pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, sports injuries, chronic osteoarthritis, gout, tendinitis, and bursitis.

How does Volitra Plus Gel work?

Volitra Plus Gel is a combination of several active ingredients that work together to relieve pain and inflammation. Diclofenac, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and Capsaicin work by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, which are chemicals in the body responsible for pain and inflammation. Linseed oil helps to minimize skin irritation and soothe the skin. Menthol provides a cooling sensation followed by a warming effect, which helps to distract from pain by dilating blood vessels and increasing blood flow. Methyl Salicylate also acts as a counterirritant, increasing blood flow to the affected area, and enhances the penetration of other pain-relieving ingredients. Benzyl alcohol functions as a bacteriostatic agent and a solvent.

What is the usual dosage for Volitra Plus Gel?

Volitra Plus Gel is for external use only. A small amount of the gel should be applied to the affected area. Gently massage the gel into the skin until it is fully absorbed. It is typically applied two to three times daily, or as advised by your physician. Some sources suggest it can be repeated up to three to four times daily. Always wash your hands thoroughly after application, unless you are treating your hands.

What are the possible side effects of Volitra Plus Gel?

Common side effects include application site reactions such as skin irritation, rash, dermatitis, itching (pruritus), redness (erythema), burning, stinging sensation, tingling (paraesthesia), vesicles, or papules. These usually resolve as your body adjusts to the medicine.

Rarely, more severe side effects like hypersensitivity or allergic reactions, or hepatotoxicity (liver damage) with symptoms such as nausea, fatigue, lethargy, diarrhea, itching, jaundice, right upper quadrant tenderness, and 'flu-like' symptoms can occur. Volitra Plus Gel may also increase the risk of fatal heart attack or stroke, and stomach ulcers and bleeding, though this is less likely with topical application compared to oral NSAIDs.

Is Volitra Plus Gel safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Volitra Plus Gel is not recommended for use in pregnant women, especially during the third trimester of pregnancy. It is also not recommended for use in breastfeeding women, as it is not known if the active ingredients are excreted in breast milk. It is crucial to consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding to discuss potential risks and benefits.

Can Volitra Plus Gel be taken with other medications?

Before using Volitra Plus Gel, inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking. It's important to be cautious if you are taking medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, other COX-2 inhibitors (e.g., celebrex, bextra), spironolactone, furosemide, cyclosporine, tacrolimus, lithium, selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like citalopram or sertraline, digoxin, amiodarone, antihypertensives (e.g., ramipril, azilsartan), warfarin, mifepristone, or methotrexate. Do not take any other NSAIDs or painkillers for pain relief along with Volitra Plus Gel unless specifically prescribed by your doctor.

What precautions should be taken while using Volitra Plus Gel?

Volitra Plus Gel is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, mucous membranes, and open wounds or damaged skin. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Do not cover the treated area with bandages or tight clothing, or apply heat, unless instructed by your doctor. Avoid exposure to the sun after applying the gel, as it may increase skin sensitivity.

The gel is not recommended for children and adolescents below 14 years of age. Exercise caution in elderly patients and those with liver, kidney, or heart problems, blood disorders, or anemia. Volitra Plus Gel is contraindicated if you have a history of asthma, urticaria, acute rhinitis, or have undergone coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery, especially if you have experienced allergic reactions to NSAIDs like aspirin. Do not ingest the gel. If you have concerns about skin reactions, a patch test is advisable before widespread use.

What happens if a dose of Volitra Plus Gel is missed?

Volitra Plus Gel is generally used on an as-needed basis. If you are on a scheduled dosing regimen and miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for the missed one.

How should Volitra Plus Gel be stored?

Store Volitra Plus Gel in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. The recommended storage temperature is below 30°C. Keep the gel out of the reach and sight of children. Avoid refrigerating the gel.
