Description
CAZIQ Buccal Paste
Name: CAZIQ (brand name). Available as Caziq Buccal Paste or Caziq Mouth Ulcer Paste. Composition: The active ingredient is Triamcinolone Acetonide 0.1% W/W. Uses: CAZIQ is a corticosteroid medication used for the local treatment of various inflammatory and ulcerative lesions within the mouth. It is prescribed for conditions such as mouth ulcers (canker sores or oral sores), oral irritation, oral lichen planus, oral mucositis, and contact stomatitis. It works by reducing inflammation, swelling, pain, and suppressing the immune response in the affected area. Dosage and Administration: Apply a thin amount to the affected areas of the mouth 2-3 times daily, ideally after meals and at bedtime, or as directed by your doctor. Do not rub the paste in, as it may become grainy. Avoid eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes after application to allow the medication to adhere and work effectively. The typical duration of treatment is often around 7 days. Side Effects:
- Common local side effects: Burning, itching, irritation, redness, or dryness at the application site. These are usually temporary and resolve as the body adjusts.
- Less common systemic side effects (especially with prolonged or extensive use): Upset stomach, stomach irritation, vomiting, headache, dizziness, insomnia, restlessness, skin rash, vision problems, and weight gain. There may also be an increased risk of infection. Precautions:
- Do not use if allergic to Triamcinolone or any other components of the paste.
- Avoid use if you have fungal, bacterial, or viral infections in the mouth or throat (e.g., herpes simplex, chickenpox), active tuberculosis, or systemic mycosis, as corticosteroids can worsen these conditions.
- Use with caution and under medical advice if you have conditions such as diabetes, glaucoma, cataracts, gastrointestinal diseases, myasthenia gravis, hypertension, acute myocardial infarction, or renal and hepatic impairment.
- CAZIQ weakens the immune system, making you more susceptible to infections. Consult your doctor before receiving any vaccinations.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before using this medication.
- In children, long-term or frequent use should be avoided as it may cause growth delays. Storage: Store the medicine in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight, preferably at temperatures between 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
Frequently asked questions
CAZIQ CR, manufactured by Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd., typically refers to formulations containing Triamcinolone, a corticosteroid. Depending on the specific product (cream, buccal paste, or mouth ulcer paste), its uses and application methods may vary. Below are frequently asked questions regarding CAZIQ formulations.
What is CAZIQ CR used for?
CAZIQ CR in its cream form is primarily used to treat various skin conditions that cause redness, itching, swelling, and inflammation, such as eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis. CAZIQ CR as a buccal or mouth ulcer paste is effectively used to treat mouth ulcers (canker sores) and other oral inflammatory lesions by relieving pain, irritation, redness, and swelling. Some formulations containing Triamcinolone may also be used for allergic rhinitis, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, and certain autoimmune diseases.
How does CAZIQ CR work?
CAZIQ CR, containing Triamcinolone, works as a corticosteroid. It functions by inhibiting the release of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause inflammation, pain, redness, and swelling. When applied as a paste, it adheres to the wet surfaces of the mouth, forming a protective film over the affected areas. For inflammatory conditions, it decreases the activity of the immune system and reduces the release of chemicals that cause inflammation.
What is the usual dosage?
The correct dosage of CAZIQ CR depends on the patient's age, gender, medical history, and the specific condition being treated. For topical cream, it is typically applied as a thin layer to the affected skin area once or twice daily, or as advised by your doctor. For buccal or mouth ulcer paste, a small amount is usually applied to the lesion without rubbing, often at bedtime or after meals. It's recommended to avoid eating or drinking for about 30 minutes after application to allow the medication to stick to the lesion longer. Always follow your doctor's instructions for the specific CAZIQ CR product prescribed.
What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects of CAZIQ CR (Triamcinolone) can vary by formulation. For creams, these may include allergic skin reactions, bacterial skin infections, acne, thinning or changes in skin color, burning, stinging, itching, or irritation at the application site. For oral pastes, common side effects include itching, burning, irritation, or visual disturbances at the application site. More serious but rare side effects can include severe irritation or dry skin. Systemic side effects like increased risk of infection, headache, or eye pain may occur with prolonged or extensive use.
Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
CAZIQ CR (Triamcinolone) should be used with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and only after consulting a doctor. For pregnant women, Caziq Cream has mild to no side effects, but Caziq oral paste is generally not considered safe unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. For breastfeeding women, Caziq Cream bears very minor side effects, while Caziq Buccal Paste should be used with caution, and breastfeeding might be held until the drug is eliminated from the body. Corticosteroids are generally compatible with breastfeeding when used in localized areas to reduce systemic absorption.
Can it be taken with other medications?
CAZIQ Cream may have severe interactions with certain drugs such as Acyclovir, Allopurinol, Valganciclovir, and Quinidine. It is crucial to inform your doctor about all prescription and non-prescription medicines, including dietary or nutritional supplements, you are currently taking. The interaction of CAZIQ buccal paste with alcohol is generally unknown or advised to be avoided.
What precautions should be taken?
Do not use CAZIQ CR if you are allergic to Triamcinolone or any of its ingredients. Caution is advised for patients with existing conditions such as heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, alcoholism, diabetes, Graves' disease, bleeding disorders, or certain infections (fungal, bacterial, viral). CAZIQ Cream/Paste is for external/local use only; avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes, or open wounds for cream. For oral paste, avoid rubbing the area. This medicine can suppress the immune system, making you more prone to infections, so avoid contact with sick individuals. Do not stop the medication abruptly as it may cause withdrawal symptoms.
What happens if a dose is missed?
If you miss a dose of CAZIQ CR, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one, as this may increase the chances of side effects.
How should it be stored?
CAZIQ CR should be stored at room temperature, typically below 25°C or 30°C, in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
