Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions about OXALGIN NANO GEL

What is OXALGIN NANO GEL used for?

OXALGIN NANO GEL is a topical pain-relieving gel used to alleviate pain, swelling, and inflammation associated with various musculoskeletal conditions. It is commonly used for joint and muscle pain resulting from injuries like sprains and strains, sports injuries, back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, and conditions such as arthritis (including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis), tendonitis, and contusions (bruises) where blood capillaries have ruptured.

How does OXALGIN NANO GEL work?

OXALGIN NANO GEL contains a combination of active ingredients: Diclofenac, Methyl Salicylate, and Menthol, and sometimes Linseed Oil. Diclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces pain and inflammation by blocking the production of chemicals called prostaglandins, which are responsible for pain and swelling. Methyl Salicylate and Menthol act as counter-irritants and topical analgesics. Methyl Salicylate provides a warming sensation, while Menthol offers a cooling effect, both of which help to soothe discomfort and divert the brain from perceiving pain by stimulating cold impulses. This combined action also aids in improving blood circulation to the affected area. The nano-formulation of the gel is designed to enhance the penetration of these active ingredients deep into the muscles and joints for faster and more targeted relief.

What is the usual dosage and how should it be applied?

OXALGIN NANO GEL is for external use only. It should be applied as directed by your physician. Generally, a thin layer of the gel is applied to the affected area and gently massaged until fully absorbed. It is typically used 3-4 times daily. It is important to wash your hands thoroughly after applying the gel, unless the hands themselves are being treated. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, nose, open wounds, cuts, or eczematous skin. Do not cover the treated area with bandages or other coverings unless specifically instructed by your doctor, as this may trap heat and increase skin irritation.

What are the possible side effects of OXALGIN NANO GEL?

Common side effects include skin rashes, itching, redness (erythema), burning or stinging sensation, dryness, or peeling of the skin at the application site. Less common side effects can include the development of skin disorders like eczema or contact dermatitis, formation of blisters and scabs, or increased sensitivity to sunlight. If any symptoms worsen or persist, it is advisable to consult your doctor.

Is OXALGIN NANO GEL safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

During the first and second trimesters of pregnancy, OXALGIN NANO GEL should be used with caution and only if advised by a doctor, keeping the dosage and frequency to a minimum. However, it is generally not recommended during the third trimester of pregnancy as it may cause harmful effects to the baby and potentially lead to reduced labor.

For breastfeeding women, OXALGIN NANO GEL is generally not recommended as it may pass through breast milk. If its use is deemed necessary by a doctor, caution should be exercised, and it should not be applied to the breasts. Always consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Can OXALGIN NANO GEL be taken with other medications?

Before using OXALGIN NANO GEL, inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs, as it can interact with certain medicines. It should be used with caution if you are taking medications for fever and inflammation (like aspirin, ibuprofen), blood thinners (like warfarin), medications for hypertension (like enalapril, torsemide), cancer medications (like methotrexate), organ transplant medications (like cyclosporine), mood disorder medications (like lithium), or other topical steroids. Combining it with other NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) should be done under a doctor's guidance to avoid excessive effects or irritation.

What precautions should be taken while using OXALGIN NANO GEL?

  • External Use Only: Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, nose, mucous membranes, or open wounds. In case of accidental contact, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Allergies: Do not use if you are allergic to Diclofenac, Menthol, Methyl Salicylate, Linseed Oil, aspirin, ibuprofen, other NSAIDs, peanuts, or soya.
  • Skin Conditions: Not recommended for use on broken skin, eczema, wounds, cuts, or any other skin disorder that leaves the skin open.
  • Sun Sensitivity: The gel may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Avoid exposure of the treated area to direct sunlight or use sunscreen on exposed skin.
  • Underlying Conditions: Inform your doctor if you have kidney failure, severe joint pain of recent onset (unrelated to injury), stomach or bowel ulcers, asthma, liver, kidney, or bleeding problems, severe heart failure, or high blood pressure.
  • Children: OXALGIN NANO GEL is not recommended for children below 14 years of age unless specifically advised by a child specialist.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose of OXALGIN NANO GEL, apply it as soon as you remember. Do not apply excessive quantities to compensate for the missed dose.

How should OXALGIN NANO GEL be stored?

OXALGIN NANO GEL should be stored away from light and at a temperature below 25°C (preferably at room temperature). Keep the tube tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Discard the product if it changes in appearance or smell.
