Description
FORGLYN RESPICAP
FORGLYN RESPICAP is a medication manufactured by ZYDUS HEALTHCARE LIMITED, designed for the long-term management of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
Composition Each FORGLYN RESPICAP contains a combination of two active ingredients:
- Formoterol Fumarate (6 mcg): A long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA) that relaxes the muscles in the airways, facilitating easier airflow.
- Glycopyrronium / Glycopyrrolate (25 mcg): A long-acting anticholinergic (LAMA) that reduces secretions in the airways, further aiding in breathing.
Uses FORGLYN RESPICAP is prescribed for the maintenance treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), which includes conditions like chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It helps to improve airflow, reduce breathlessness, and prevent COPD exacerbations. This medicine is not intended for the relief of sudden breathing problems or acute asthma attacks.
Dosage and Administration FORGLYN RESPICAP is for oral inhalation only and should not be swallowed. It is administered using a Respihaler/Rotahaler/inhaler device as directed by a healthcare professional. Patients are advised to take it at the same time each day. After inhalation, it is important to rinse the mouth with water and spit it out to prevent fungal infections.
Side Effects Common side effects may include headache, nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, frequent urination, sore throat, cough, indigestion, chest pain, muscle cramps, nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages), fever, increased blood glucose levels, sinus inflammation, nasal inflammation, urinary tract infection, irregular heartbeat, rash, increased blood pressure, shaky feeling, and nervousness. Most common side effects do not require medical attention and resolve over time. However, persistent or worsening side effects should be reported to a doctor.
Precautions
- FORGLYN RESPICAP is not for immediate relief of sudden breathing difficulties.
- Consult a doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding, as use may be considered only if the benefits outweigh the risks.
- This medicine may cause dizziness, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery.
- Avoid alcohol consumption as it may increase dizziness.

Storage Store FORGLYN RESPICAP below 25°C (or between 20°C and 25°C) in a dry place, away from excessive heat, light, and moisture. Keep out of reach and sight of children.
Frequently asked questions
What is Forglyn Respicap used for?
Forglyn Respicap is primarily used for the long-term, maintenance treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), which includes conditions like chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It helps to relax and open the airways, reduce mucus production, and alleviate symptoms such as shortness of breath, coughing, and chest tightness, thereby improving breathing and overall quality of life. This medicine is not intended for the relief of sudden breathing problems or for treating asthma.
How does Forglyn Respicap work?
Forglyn Respicap is a combination medication containing Formoterol fumarate and Glycopyrrolate. Formoterol is a long-acting beta-agonist (LABA) that relaxes the muscles in the airways, causing them to widen and making it easier to breathe. Glycopyrrolate is a long-acting anticholinergic (LAMA) that works by decreasing secretions in the airways and further relaxing airway muscles, which together improve airflow in the lungs.
What is the usual dosage of Forglyn Respicap?
The dosage of Forglyn Respicap should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is typically administered via an inhaler device, often once or twice daily (e.g., once every 12 hours). It is crucial to follow the specific instructions provided with the medication for proper inhalation and not to exceed the prescribed dose. Forglyn Respicap is for oral inhalation only and should not be swallowed.
What are the possible side effects of Forglyn Respicap?
Common side effects may include headache, nausea, dry mouth, cough, muscle spasm, urinary tract infection, and oral candidiasis (a fungal infection in the mouth). Other possible side effects include dizziness, indigestion, sore throat, nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages), chest pain, fever, increased blood pressure, rash, shaky feelings, and nervousness. Rinsing your mouth with water and spitting it out after each use can help prevent oral candidiasis.
Is Forglyn Respicap safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
During Pregnancy: Caution is advised when using Forglyn Respicap during pregnancy. Your doctor will weigh the potential benefits against any possible risks to the developing baby, as animal studies have shown harmful effects. It should only be used if considered essential and prescribed by your doctor.
During Breastfeeding: Caution is also advised for breastfeeding women. Limited human data suggests that the medication may pass into breast milk and potentially harm the baby. Your doctor will assess the risk-benefit ratio and advise whether to use Forglyn Respicap or discontinue breastfeeding.
Can Forglyn Respicap be taken with other medications?
Forglyn Respicap can interact with other medications, so it's important to inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking. Interactions can occur with antihypertensive medications (e.g., atenolol, metoprolol), certain antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline, phenelzine), strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, ritonavir), antibiotics (e.g., clarithromycin), diuretic medications (e.g., hydrochlorothiazide), and other anticholinergic medications (e.g., tiotropium). Beta-blockers may counteract the effects of Forglyn Respicap. Concurrent use with other long-acting beta-agonist (LABA) drugs should be avoided.
What precautions should be taken while using Forglyn Respicap?
This medicine should not be used for sudden, acute breathing problems or asthma attacks. Exercise caution if you have conditions such as glaucoma, urinary retention, heart disorders, seizures, diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure), hyperthyroidism, kidney problems, or severe liver impairment. It may cause dizziness, so avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you experience this side effect. Alcohol consumption should be limited, as it might increase dizziness. Forglyn Respicap is not recommended for children under 18 years. Always inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions or ongoing medications.
What happens if a dose of Forglyn Respicap is missed?
If you miss a dose of Forglyn Respicap, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
How should Forglyn Respicap be stored?
Forglyn Respicap should be stored at a controlled room temperature, ideally between 20°C and 25°C (68°F and 77°F), with permitted excursions up to 15-30°C (59-86°F). It should be kept in a dry place, protected from excessive heat, light, and moisture. Ensure the container is tightly closed after each use and always keep this medicine out of the reach and sight of children. Use it before its expiry date.
