Description
ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TABLET
Name: ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TABLET (Brand names may include Zita Met Plus 20/1000mg Tablet or Zita-Met 1000mg/20mg Tablet ER). Manufactured by Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
Composition: Each tablet contains:
- Teneligliptin: 20 mg
- Metformin: 1000 mg
Uses: ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TABLET is prescribed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It helps to control high blood sugar levels and improve glycemic control, especially when diet and exercise alone, or metformin alone, are insufficient. This medication aids in preventing serious complications of diabetes such as kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, and cardiovascular issues like heart attack or stroke.
Dosage and Administration: Take this medicine as directed by your physician, preferably after meals, to minimize gastrointestinal side effects. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not crush, chew, or break it. The doctor will determine the appropriate dose and duration based on the patient's condition, blood sugar levels, and other medications. It should be taken regularly at the same time each day for optimal benefit.
Side Effects:
- Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset or pain, constipation, flatulence, altered taste sensations, headache, nasal congestion, sore throat, respiratory tract infection, weight gain, sweating. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) can occur, particularly with insufficient caloric intake, alcohol consumption, or concomitant use of other antidiabetic medications.
- Serious: Lactic acidosis (a rare but severe condition characterized by muscle pain, dizziness, tiredness, cold hands/feet, difficulty breathing, severe nausea/vomiting, stomach pains), serious allergic reactions (hives, swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat causing difficulty breathing), and severe skin rashes. Immediate medical attention is required for serious side effects.
Precautions: ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TABLET is contraindicated in patients with severe kidney impairment, severe heart problems (such as acute heart failure, congestive heart failure), liver impairment, lactic acidosis, type 1 diabetes, or known allergy to its components. Caution is advised for patients with low potassium levels, severe dehydration, or those consuming excessive alcohol, as this increases the risk of lactic acidosis. Regular monitoring of blood sugar levels and kidney function is recommended during therapy. It is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Driving or operating machinery should be done with caution due to the potential for hypoglycemia. Long-term use may lead to Vitamin B12 deficiency.
Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, below 30°C, protected from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat. Keep out of the sight and reach of children and pets.
Frequently asked questions
ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TAB is a medication used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains two active ingredients: Metformin and Teneligliptin, which work together to help control blood sugar levels.
What is ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TAB used for?
ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TAB is primarily used to manage high blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is often prescribed when blood sugar levels are not adequately controlled by metformin alone or when additional blood sugar-lowering effects are needed. This medication helps improve glycemic control and can assist in preventing long-term complications of diabetes such as kidney damage, eye problems, nerve issues, and cardiovascular diseases like heart attack and stroke.
How does ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TAB work?
This medicine is a combination of two antidiabetic agents: Metformin (1000mg) and Teneligliptin (20mg).
- Metformin works by reducing the production of glucose in the liver, delaying the absorption of glucose from the intestines, and increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin.
- Teneligliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. It works by increasing the release of insulin from the pancreas and decreasing the hormones that raise blood sugar levels, thereby reducing both fasting and post-meal sugar levels. Together, these actions lead to better control of blood sugar.
What is the usual dosage for ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TAB?
ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TAB is typically taken once daily, preferably after meals, or as advised by your physician. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and should not be crushed or chewed. Your doctor will determine the correct dose and duration of therapy based on your age, body weight, and medical condition.
What are the possible side effects of ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TAB?
Common side effects may include low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia), stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, flatulence, abdominal pain, altered taste sensations, headache, respiratory infection, weight gain, and sweating.
Serious side effects, though rare, can occur. You should stop taking the medicine and consult your doctor immediately if you experience a serious allergic reaction (hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat causing difficulty in breathing or swallowing), severe skin rashes with redness and blistering, or signs of lactic acidosis. Symptoms of lactic acidosis include cold hands or feet, dizziness, light-headedness, slow or irregular heartbeat, unusual muscle pain, trouble breathing, sleepiness or drowsiness, stomach pains, nausea, or vomiting.
Is ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TAB safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Pregnancy: ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TAB is generally not recommended during pregnancy, and its safety in pregnant women has not been established. It should only be used if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus, and only after consulting your doctor.
Breastfeeding: This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding mothers as it may be secreted in breast milk and could cause unwanted effects in the nursing baby. Consult your doctor before taking this medication if you are breastfeeding.
Can ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TAB be taken with other medications?
It is crucial to inform your doctor about all other medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter drugs, herbal supplements, and vitamins, to prevent potential drug interactions.
ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TAB may interact with other anti-diabetic medications (e.g., insulin, glimepiride), iodine contrast media (used during X-rays), bronchodilators (e.g., salbutamol), corticosteroids (e.g., hydrocortisone, prednisone), diuretics (e.g., furosemide), and certain cationic medicines (e.g., amiloride, cimetidine, ranitidine). Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen and naproxen, and some blood pressure medicines (e.g., enalapril, captopril), may also interact.
What precautions should be taken while using ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TAB?
Before taking ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TAB, inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney, or heart problems, severe infection, severe trauma, adrenal insufficiency, low potassium levels in the blood, bowel obstruction, or an irregular heartbeat, or if you are scheduled for surgery.
Regular monitoring of blood sugar levels and kidney function is advised during treatment. Avoid excessive alcohol consumption as it can increase the risk of a serious condition called lactic acidosis. The medication is generally not recommended for patients with severe uncontrollable diabetes, alcoholism, severe systemic infections, severe renal impairment, or severe heart problems.
What happens if a dose of ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TAB is missed?
If you miss a dose of ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TAB, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. Always consult your doctor before making any changes to your dosage regimen.
How should ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TAB be stored?
Store ZITA MET 20MG/1000MG TAB in a cool and dry place, protected from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat. Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children and pets. The recommended storage temperature is below 30°C.
