Name: Gamamed Soap Composition:

  • Gamma Benzene Hexachloride (1% w/w or 2% w/w)
  • Cetrimide (0.5% w/w)

Uses: Gamamed Soap is primarily used for the treatment of scabies, a condition caused by tiny insects (mites) that infest and irritate the skin. It works by paralyzing and killing these mites and their eggs. Additionally, it is prescribed to relieve itching and skin irritation associated with various conditions, including:

  • Sunburn
  • Dry eczema and dermatitis (red and itchy skin)
  • Allergic rashes, hives, and nettle rash
  • Chickenpox and heat rashes
  • Personal itching, insect bites, and stings
  • Head lice

Dosage and Administration: This medicine is for external use only.

  • Apply as advised by your doctor, usually once daily in the evening. The dose may gradually be increased to twice daily.
  • Wash hands and the affected area, then gently dry.
  • Apply a thin layer of the soap to the entire affected skin area, generally the whole body except the head, mouth, eyes, and face.
  • Leave it on for 8-12 hours before taking a bath or shower.
  • Ensure skin is clean, dry, and cool before application.
  • Wear synthetic latex gloves during application.
  • Change clothes, towels, and bedsheets after each application to prevent the spread of infection.

Side Effects: Common side effects include:

  • Erythematous rash
  • Itching
  • Dry skin
  • Paresthesia (tingling or pricking sensation)
  • Mild burning, stinging, irritation, and redness at the application site
  • Headache

If severe local irritation (redness, dryness, itching, stinging/burning sensation) occurs, discontinue use and consult a doctor.

Precautions:

  • Use Gamamed Soap only on the skin. Keep it away from eyes, eyelids, lips, mouth, and inside of the nose. In case of accidental contact, wash the affected area with water immediately.
  • Avoid using on scratched or eroded skin and open wounds. Exercise care when applying to sensitive areas like the neck.
  • This soap can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Minimize time spent in the sun, use sunscreen, and wear protective clothing while using this medicine. Avoid sunbeds/lamps.
  • Avoid contact with hair as it has strong bleaching properties.
  • Inform your doctor if you have any severe chronic diseases (e.g., cancer, AIDS), seizures, or if you have previously used lindane.
  • Consult your doctor before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not use if you have an allergy to lindane or any other component of the soap, or if the skin being treated has sores or psoriasis.

Storage:

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
  • Store below 25°C.
  • Do not use the medicine past its expiry date.
Frequently asked questions

Here are some frequently asked questions about GAMAMED 75GM SOAP:

What is Gamamed Soap used for?

Gamamed Soap is primarily used to treat scabies, a skin condition caused by tiny mites that infest and irritate the skin. It is also effective against head lice and their eggs. Additionally, it may be used to relieve itching and skin irritation associated with conditions such as sunburn, dry eczema, dermatitis, allergic rashes, hives, chickenpox, heat rashes, and insect bites and stings.

How does Gamamed Soap work?

Gamamed Soap contains Gamma Benzene Hexachloride (Lindane) and Cetrimide. Gamma Benzene Hexachloride is an ectoparasiticide that works by paralyzing and killing the mites and lice, including their eggs. Cetrimide also has antiseptic properties and contributes to killing microorganisms.

What is the usual dosage and how should it be applied?

The soap should be used as directed by your doctor. Generally, it is applied to the entire affected area of the body, usually excluding the head, mouth, eyes, and face. Your skin should be clean, dry, and cool before application. After applying a thin layer, it is typically left on for 8-12 hours before being washed off. Often, one application is sufficient, but a second application may be required a week later. It is important to wash your hands before and after applying the soap.

What are the possible side effects of Gamamed Soap?

Common side effects include mild burning, stinging, tingling (paresthesia), itching, and dry skin at the application site. Most side effects are usually mild and may disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. If side effects persist or worsen, or if you experience a severe reaction like significant redness, blistering, or a severe allergic reaction (wheezing, chest tightness, swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat), discontinue use and consult a doctor immediately.

Is Gamamed Soap safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Gamamed Soap is generally considered safe for use during pregnancy if prescribed by a doctor, as animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects on the developing baby. However, there are limited human studies. For breastfeeding women, information regarding its use is not readily available, and it is advised to consult your doctor. Some sources indicate it may lead to some side effects in breastfeeding women.

Can Gamamed Soap be taken with other medications?

As Gamamed Soap is a topical medication, direct interactions with ingested medications are less common. However, it is always recommended to inform your doctor about all the medications you are currently taking, including other topical treatments, to avoid potential interactions or adverse effects.

What precautions should be taken when using Gamamed Soap?

Avoid contact with eyes, eyelids, lips, mouth, and inside of the nose. If accidental contact occurs, rinse the area with water immediately. Do not use Gamamed Soap on scratched, eroded skin, open wounds, or if you have severe chronic diseases like cancer or AIDS, or a history of seizures. The soap can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so minimize sun exposure and use sunscreen and protective clothing. Avoid contact with hair as it has strong bleaching properties. Consult your doctor if you have an allergy to Lindane or any other component of the soap.

What happens if a dose is missed?

For topical treatments like Gamamed Soap, follow your doctor's instructions. If a specific application schedule is provided and you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled application. Do not apply a double or extra dose to make up for the missed one.

How should Gamamed Soap be stored?

Gamamed Soap should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from the reach of children. Do not use the medicine past its expiry date.
