Name

  • Brand Name: DIAPRIDE M1 LV, DIAPRIDE M1 LV 1mg/500mg/0.2mg Tablet SR
  • Manufacturer: MICRO LABS (GRATIA)

Composition DIAPRIDE M1 LV contains a combination of three active ingredients:

  • Glimepiride (1 mg)
  • Metformin (500 mg)
  • Voglibose (0.2 mg)

Uses DIAPRIDE M1 LV is prescribed for adults to treat Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It is used when diet, exercise, and single or dual therapy with other drugs are insufficient to control blood sugar levels adequately. This medicine helps manage high blood glucose levels by increasing insulin release, improving insulin sensitivity, reducing glucose production in the liver, and slowing down the absorption of carbohydrates from the intestines.

Dosage and Administration Take DIAPRIDE M1 LV as advised by your physician, usually once daily with or immediately before meals. Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew, crush, or break it. The dosage is determined by your doctor based on your blood sugar levels and may change over time. Do not stop taking the medicine without consulting your doctor.

Side Effects Common side effects include:

  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels), characterized by sweating, dizziness, headache, and shaking
  • Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, altered taste, flatulence, and loss of appetite
  • Upper respiratory tract infection

Serious side effects like lactic acidosis can occur, presenting as exhaustion, extreme fatigue, body weakness, and severe diarrhea.

Precautions

  • Contraindications: Do not take DIAPRIDE M1 LV if you have Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe kidney or liver disease, acute conditions (e.g., dehydration, severe infection), severe trauma, lung or heart problems, or an allergy to any of its components or other sulfonylureas.
  • Alcohol: Avoid alcohol consumption as it can increase the risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Driving: May affect driving ability due to fluctuations in blood sugar.
  • Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor about all other medications, including NSAIDs, cardiac glycosides, thyroid medications, antibacterials, antifungals, other antidiabetics, and certain anticancer drugs.
  • Other Warnings: Caution is advised in older patients, and regular monitoring of blood sugar levels, blood cell counts, and liver function is recommended. Long-term use may cause low vitamin B12 levels.

Storage Store DIAPRIDE M1 LV in a closed container at room temperature, ideally below 30°C, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Frequently asked questions

What is Diapride M1 LV used for?

Diapride M1 LV is an anti-diabetic medicine primarily used to treat Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It helps control high blood sugar levels when diet, exercise, and therapy with one or two other drugs are not sufficient. This medication aims to regulate glucose metabolism and maintain optimal blood sugar levels, which can help prevent serious complications of diabetes such as kidney damage, vision problems, nerve damage, heart attack, or stroke.

How does Diapride M1 LV work?

Diapride M1 LV is a combination of three anti-diabetic drugs: Glimepiride, Metformin, and Voglibose, each working through a different mechanism to control blood sugar.

  • Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) works by stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin.
  • Metformin (a biguanide) decreases the amount of glucose produced by the liver, delays glucose absorption from the intestines, and improves the body's sensitivity to insulin.
  • Voglibose (an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor) prevents the breakdown of complex sugars into simpler sugars like glucose in the intestine, thereby slowing down carbohydrate digestion and absorption and reducing the rise in blood glucose levels after meals.

What is the usual dosage for Diapride M1 LV?

The dosage of Diapride M1 LV is determined by your doctor, considering your condition and response to the medicine. It is typically taken once or twice daily with or immediately before meals. It is crucial to swallow the tablet whole with water and not to crush, chew, or break it. You should always follow your doctor's instructions and not adjust the dose or stop the medication without consultation.

What are the possible side effects of Diapride M1 LV?

The most common side effect of Diapride M1 LV is hypoglycemia (low blood glucose levels), which can cause dizziness, sweating, hunger pangs, dry mouth, headache, and shaking. Other possible common side effects include taste changes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, upper respiratory tract infection, and flatulence. If you experience severe side effects or if common side effects persist, you should consult your doctor.

Is Diapride M1 LV safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Diapride M1 LV is generally not recommended during pregnancy as there is limited human data, and animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Similarly, it is probably unsafe during breastfeeding as limited human data suggests the drug may pass into breast milk and harm the baby. Always consult your doctor for advice if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Can Diapride M1 LV be taken with other medications?

Diapride M1 LV can interact with various medications. For example, Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) may amplify its blood sugar-lowering effect. Cardiac glycosides like digoxin might have altered absorption. Thyroid medications, such as levothyroxine, can decrease the effectiveness of glimepiride. Other medications that can interact include certain antibacterials, antifungals, anticancer drugs, blood thinners, and medicines for high blood pressure or heart failure. It is essential to inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are currently taking to avoid potential interactions.

What precautions should be taken when using Diapride M1 LV?

Several precautions should be taken:

  • Hypoglycemia: Diapride M1 LV can cause low blood sugar. Carry a fast-acting source of sugar (e.g., glucose tablets, fruit juice) for immediate relief.
  • Alcohol: Avoid alcohol consumption as it increases the risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis.
  • Kidney/Liver Disease: It is not recommended for patients with severe kidney or liver disease due to increased risk of lactic acidosis.
  • Type 1 Diabetes/Diabetic Ketoacidosis: This medicine is not suitable for Type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • Surgery: Inform your doctor before any surgery, as they may advise you to discontinue the treatment temporarily.
  • Vitamin B12 Deficiency: Long-term use may cause Vitamin B12 deficiency; regular monitoring might be recommended.
  • Driving/Operating Machinery: Be cautious as low or high blood sugar can affect your ability to drive or operate machinery.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose of Diapride M1 LV, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to compensate for a missed one, as this may cause low blood glucose.

How should Diapride M1 LV be stored?

Diapride M1 LV should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep it out of sight and reach of children. The recommended storage temperature is typically between 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC.
