Name

  • Common Name: Ketotram Tablet
  • Brand Name: KETOTRAMTABLET

Composition

KETOTRAMTABLET is a combination medication containing two active ingredients:

  • Ketorolac (10mg): A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by reducing the production of inflammatory substances called prostaglandins, thereby alleviating pain, swelling, and fever.
  • Tramadol (25mg): An opioid analgesic (pain reliever) that acts on opioid receptors in the brain and blocks the transmission of pain signals to the brain, lowering pain perception.

Uses

KETOTRAMTABLET is prescribed for the short-term management of moderate to severe pain and inflammation. It is not intended for mild pain or chronic, long-lasting painful conditions. Common conditions it may be used for include:

  • Muscle pain, joint pain, and muscle cramps
  • Abdominal pain and cramps
  • Toothache and post-dental procedures
  • Bone fractures and general body pain
  • Post-surgical pain
  • Fever
  • Various types of arthritis and gout

Dosage and Administration

  • Adults: Typically, 10 mg every 4-6 hours, not exceeding 40 mg in a day.
  • Take the tablet as a whole with a glass of water. Do not chew, crush, or break it.
  • Can be taken with or without food, though taking it with food can help prevent stomach upset. Avoid high-fat meals.
  • The duration of use should not exceed 5 days for adults.
  • If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered. However, if it's almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one to avoid doubling the dose.

Side Effects

Common side effects include:

  • Stomach ache, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, gas
  • Dizziness, drowsiness, headache
  • Dry mouth, constipation, weakness, loss of appetite

Serious side effects (often associated with long-term use or overdose) may include:

  • Stomach bleeding, kidney problems
  • Blurred vision
  • Shortness of breath, difficulty speaking, severe headache, unusual tiredness, fainting, ringing in the ears
  • Irregular heart rate, agitation, anxiety

Precautions

  • KETOTRAMTABLET is not recommended for patients below 17 years of age.
  • Do not use if you have a known allergy to ketorolac, tramadol, other NSAIDs, or opioids.
  • Avoid use before or after coronary bypass surgery or if you have a history of heart conditions, stomach/intestinal bleeding, peptic ulcer disease, bleeding disorders, asthma, IBD, or stroke.
  • Exercise caution and consult your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, as dose adjustments or close monitoring may be required.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how it affects you.
  • Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it can intensify side effects like drowsiness and significantly increase the risk of stomach problems.
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. It is not recommended during breastfeeding and should be avoided during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester.
  • Disclose all other medications, including herbal supplements, to your doctor, particularly blood thinners (e.g., warfarin), anti-hypertensive drugs, corticosteroids, Codeine, Fluoxetine, or Ketoconazole, due to potential drug interactions.
  • Do not stop the medication abruptly, as it may lead to mild withdrawal symptoms.
  • Long-term use necessitates regular monitoring of kidney and liver function and blood component levels.
  • Elderly patients should be carefully monitored due to a higher risk of side effects.
  • Avoid taking indigestion remedies (antacids) within two hours of taking KETOTRAMTABLET.

Storage

  • Store in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight.

Frequently asked questions

Here are frequently asked questions about KETOTRAMTABLET by MEDLEY PHARMACEUTICALS:

What is KETOTRAMTABLET used for?

KETOTRAMTABLET is a combination medicine primarily used for the short-term management of moderate to severe pain and inflammation. It is often prescribed for acute pain, such as post-surgical pain, post-dental procedures, muscle pain, joint pain, back pain, and to relieve symptoms like fever, swelling, and cramps.

How does KETOTRAMTABLET work?

KETOTRAMTABLET contains two active ingredients: Ketorolac and Tramadol. Ketorolac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by blocking certain enzymes (cyclooxygenase or COX enzymes) responsible for producing prostaglandins, which cause pain, inflammation, and fever. Tramadol is an opioid analgesic that works by blocking pain signals in the central nervous system, including the brain, and also by modulating neurotransmitters involved in pain pathways.

What is the usual dosage for KETOTRAMTABLET?

The usual adult dosage for Ketorolac, one of the components, is typically 10 mg every 4-6 hours, not exceeding 40 mg in a day. It should be taken as a whole tablet with a glass of water, as prescribed by your doctor. Do not chew or crush the tablet. It is generally recommended for short-term use, typically not longer than 5 days. KETOTRAMTABLET is not recommended for children under 17 years of age.

What are the possible side effects of KETOTRAMTABLET?

Common side effects may include headache, drowsiness, vomiting, nausea, indigestion, dry mouth, weakness, constipation, dizziness, blurred vision, and stomach pain. More serious, but less common, side effects can include irregular heart rate, agitation, anxiety, mouth ulcers, swelling of the face or limbs, and unexpected weight gain. Prolonged use can also lead to severe health issues like stomach bleeding and kidney problems. If you experience any severe or persistent side effects, you should stop the medication and consult your doctor.

Is KETOTRAMTABLET safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

KETOTRAMTABLET is generally not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester, as it may pose risks to the unborn baby. It is also advised to avoid KETOTRAMTABLET while breastfeeding, as both Ketorolac and Tramadol can pass into breast milk and may harm the nursing infant. Always consult your doctor for safer alternative pain relief options if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Can KETOTRAMTABLET be taken with other medications?

KETOTRAMTABLET can interact with various medications. It should be avoided with blood thinners like warfarin due to an increased risk of bleeding. Caution is advised if you are taking anti-hypertensive drugs, corticosteroids, Codeine, Fluoxetine, or Ketoconazole. Always inform your doctor about all other medications, herbal supplements, or vitamins you are taking to avoid potential drug interactions. Do not take it with any other pain medicine without consulting your doctor first.

What precautions should be taken while using KETOTRAMTABLET?

Do not use KETOTRAMTABLET if you are allergic to tramadol, ketorolac, or other NSAIDs. It is not recommended if you have a history of stomach or intestinal bleeding, severe heart conditions (like before or after coronary bypass surgery), asthma, kidney disease, or liver disease. Exercise caution if you are elderly or have a history of seizures. Due to potential side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, and blurred vision, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery while taking this medicine. Alcohol consumption should also be avoided as it can increase these side effects. Long-term use beyond 5 days is generally not recommended and can cause fertility issues. Do not stop taking it abruptly without medical advice, as it can lead to withdrawal symptoms.

What happens if a dose of KETOTRAMTABLET is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember if you still experience pain. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.

How should KETOTRAMTABLET be stored?

KETOTRAMTABLET should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. It is typically kept at room temperature (20-25°C) and protected from moisture and light. Always keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
