Description
FLUR Eye Drops
FLUR Eye Drops, manufactured by ALLERGAN INDIA PVT. LTD., is an ophthalmic solution formulated to address various eye conditions.
-
Composition: Each mL of FLUR Eye Drops contains Flurbiprofen Sodium 0.03% w/v and Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) 0.25% w/v. Flurbiprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by inhibiting substances causing pain and inflammation, while Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose acts as a lubricant, similar to natural tears, to relieve dryness and discomfort.
-
Uses: This medicine is primarily used to prevent pupil constriction (miosis) during eye surgery, particularly cataract removal. It is also prescribed to treat post-operative eye pain and inflammation, as well as to alleviate symptoms of dry eyes, burning, and discomfort. Additionally, it may be used for pseudophakic cystoid macular edema.
-
Dosage and Administration: FLUR Eye Drops are for external ophthalmic use only. The typical dosage for preventing intraoperative miosis is one drop in the affected eye(s) every 30 minutes, starting 2 hours before surgery, for a total of four drops. For other conditions, it should be used as directed by a doctor based on the eye condition. Patients should wash their hands before use and avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye or any surface to prevent contamination.
-
Side Effects: Common side effects include blurred vision, eye pain, eye irritation, stinging or burning sensations, eye redness, and foreign body sensation in the eyes. Serious, though rare, side effects may include severe eye pain, vision changes, eye swelling, or increased bleeding tendency of ocular tissues during surgery.
-
Precautions: Do not use FLUR Eye Drops if allergic to any of its components or other NSAIDs. Caution is advised in patients with bleeding tendencies. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before use. This medicine may cause temporary blurred vision, so driving or operating machinery should be avoided until vision is clear. Contact lenses should be removed before instilling the drops. It is not recommended for use in children unless advised by a doctor.
-
Storage: Store FLUR Eye Drops in a cool and dry place, away from sunlight, at temperatures below 30°C (10°C to 25°C). Keep out of reach of children. Once opened, the bottle should be used within one month.
Frequently asked questions
Here are the most frequently asked questions about FLUR EYE DROPS by ALLERGAN INDIA PVT. LTD.
What are FLUR EYE DROPS used for?
FLUR EYE DROPS are a prescription medicine primarily used to alleviate eye pain, redness, and swelling, providing temporary relief from burning and discomfort associated with various eye conditions. They are also used to prevent pupil narrowing during eye surgery (such as cataract removal), manage post-surgical eye inflammation, treat Pseudophakic Cystoid macular edema, eye pain after surgery, and post-operative dry eye.
How do FLUR EYE DROPS work?
FLUR EYE DROPS contain two active ingredients: Flurbiprofen and Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC). Flurbiprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), works by blocking the production of natural substances called prostaglandins, which are responsible for pain, swelling, and redness in the eyes. It also helps prevent the pupil from constricting during eye surgery. Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose acts as an eye lubricant, similar to natural tears, to reduce dryness and provide temporary relief from burning and discomfort.
What is the usual dosage for FLUR EYE DROPS?
FLUR EYE DROPS should be used only in the affected eye(s) and for the duration prescribed by your doctor. Always wash your hands before use and carefully follow the directions on the label. A typical dosage involves applying one or two drops as directed by your doctor. For instance, for post-operative inflammation after cataract surgery, a common regimen is one drop into the operated eye four times daily, starting 24 hours after surgery and continuing for two weeks. If you are using other eye drops, maintain a gap of at least 5 to 10 minutes between applications.
What are the possible side effects of FLUR EYE DROPS?
Common side effects may include burning or stinging sensations, eye irritation, itching, redness at the application site, discomfort, and temporary blurred vision. These effects are usually temporary and tend to resolve as your body adjusts to the medication. If any side effects persist or worsen, or if you experience severe eye irritation, headache, eye pain, or vision changes, it is important to consult your doctor immediately.
Is it safe to use FLUR EYE DROPS during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
FLUR EYE DROPS are not recommended for use during the third trimester of pregnancy. For other stages of pregnancy, and while breastfeeding, there is limited information available, and it is crucial to consult your doctor before using this medicine. Your doctor will weigh the potential risks and benefits.
Can FLUR EYE DROPS be taken with other medications?
It is important to inform your doctor about all medicines, including other eye drops, supplements, and herbal products, you are currently taking to avoid potential drug interactions. Special caution is advised if you are taking medications that affect blood clotting. If you need to use other eye drops, ensure there is an interval of at least 5 to 10 minutes between applying FLUR EYE DROPS and the other medication.
What precautions should be taken when using FLUR EYE DROPS?
Always wash your hands thoroughly before and after applying the drops. To prevent contamination, avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye, eyelids, or any other surface. Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed, even if your symptoms improve. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery immediately after using the drops, as temporary blurred vision may occur. If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before instilling the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. Inform your doctor if you have allergies to any ingredients, a viral eye infection, a tendency to bleed, asthma, bleeding disorders, or cardiovascular disease. In case of accidental contact with your ears, nose, or mouth, rinse the area immediately with water. Do not use the eye drops for more than 30 days after breaking the seal.
What happens if a dose of FLUR EYE DROPS is missed?
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for the missed one.
How should FLUR EYE DROPS be stored?
Store FLUR EYE DROPS below 30°C (at room temperature), away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use and ensure it is out of the reach of children.
