Description
CARVIDON-MR TAB by MICRO LABS LIMITED
Name:
- Brand Name: CARVIDON-MR TAB
- Common Name: Trimetazidine Dihydrochloride (Modified Release)
Composition: Each modified-release tablet contains Trimetazidine Dihydrochloride BP 35 mg.
Uses: CARVIDON-MR TAB is prescribed for adults as an add-on therapy for the symptomatic treatment of stable angina pectoris, a heart condition causing chest pain due to reduced blood flow to the heart. It is used when patients are inadequately controlled by or intolerant to first-line antianginal therapies. Trimetazidine works by optimizing the heart's energy metabolism, shifting it towards glucose oxidation, which requires less oxygen, thereby protecting heart cells from the effects of reduced oxygen supply. It helps prevent new angina attacks but does not alleviate acute attacks.
Dosage and Administration: The recommended dosage for modified-release 35 mg tablets is one tablet twice daily, in the morning and evening, taken during meals. Tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed, broken, or chewed. Consistent intake at a fixed time is crucial for optimal benefit. The treatment's benefit should be assessed after three months, and it should be discontinued if no response is observed.
Side Effects:
- Common: Dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, rash, itching, hives, and a general feeling of weakness (asthenia).
- Serious/Rare: Extrapyramidal symptoms (e.g., trembling, rigid posture, slow movements, shuffling walk), sleep disorders, constipation, severe generalized red skin rash with blistering, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat, palpitations, extrasystoles, tachycardia, and orthostatic hypotension.
Precautions: CARVIDON-MR TAB is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to trimetazidine, Parkinson's disease, parkinsonian symptoms, tremors, restless legs syndrome, severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min), during pregnancy, and lactation. Caution is advised in elderly patients and those with moderate renal impairment, where dose adjustments may be necessary. Patients should inform their doctor about all existing medications, supplements, or herbal remedies. Do not discontinue the medication abruptly. Due to potential dizziness or drowsiness, patients should avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if affected. Concomitant alcohol consumption should be avoided.
Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Do not store above 30°C.
Frequently asked questions
Carvidon-MR Tablet contains Trimetazidine, an anti-anginal agent manufactured by Micro Labs Limited. It is primarily used to manage chest pain associated with heart conditions.
What is Carvidon-MR Tablet used for?
Carvidon-MR Tablet is used in adult patients as an add-on therapy for the management of stable angina pectoris, which is chest pain caused by reduced blood flow and oxygen supply to the heart. It helps to prevent angina attacks and can improve exercise tolerance. In some contexts, it may also be prescribed for vertigo, tinnitus, and visual disturbances related to circulatory problems.
How does Carvidon-MR Tablet work?
Carvidon-MR Tablet works by optimizing the heart muscle's metabolism. It shifts the heart's energy production from fatty acids to glucose, which requires less oxygen. This process allows the heart to work more efficiently, even when oxygen supply is reduced, thereby protecting heart cells and reducing chest pain.
What is the usual dosage for Carvidon-MR Tablet?
The typical dosage is usually one tablet taken twice daily, often with meals. It should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and not crushed or chewed. Your doctor will determine the correct dose and duration based on your age, body weight, and specific medical condition.
What are the possible side effects of Carvidon-MR Tablet?
Common side effects may include dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, indigestion, nausea, skin rashes, itching, hives, and a feeling of weakness. If these effects persist or worsen, you should consult your doctor.
Is Carvidon-MR Tablet safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Carvidon-MR Tablet is generally not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly necessary, as there is limited information regarding its safety in pregnant women. It is also not recommended for breastfeeding women, as it is unknown if Trimetazidine passes into breast milk. Always consult your doctor before taking this medicine if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
Can Carvidon-MR Tablet be taken with other medications?
Before taking Carvidon-MR Tablet, inform your doctor about all other medicines you are currently taking, including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and herbal products. Concurrent use with certain medications, such as prokinetic agents (e.g., Metoclopramide) or some calcium channel blockers, may require careful monitoring by your doctor due to potential drug interactions.
What precautions should be taken while using Carvidon-MR Tablet?
Carvidon-MR Tablet is not intended to treat sudden angina attacks (acute angina), unstable angina, or heart attacks. You should not take this medicine if you are allergic to Trimetazidine or any of its ingredients. It is contraindicated in patients with Parkinson's disease, other movement disorders, or severe kidney problems. Use with caution in elderly patients (over 75 years of age) and those with heart conditions. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you experience dizziness or unsteadiness. Alcohol consumption should also be avoided as it may increase dizziness and reduce the medication's effectiveness.
What happens if a dose of Carvidon-MR Tablet is missed?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose, as this may lead to serious consequences.
How should Carvidon-MR Tablet be stored?
Store Carvidon-MR Tablet at room temperature, typically between 20-25°C (68-77°F) or below 30°C, in a dry place. Keep it away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture, and out of the reach of children and pets.
